> The Legend of the Rare Rainbow Diamond, Rarest Diamond that Ever Existed > by Blue Tiger > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > 1 - The Book > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rarity knocked on the front door of the library. The door opened to reveal the purple Alicorn named Twilight Sparkle. "Oh, hey, Rarity," She said. "Hello, Twilight." Rarity said. "I need to check out a book of dress designs." "Right this way then," Twilight said. She went to the shelf that has a few books Rarity asked for. She used her magic to get one down and gave it to Rarity. "Here you go." "Thank you," Rarity said. "You see, my designs are getting kinda old and I need-" She stopped in mid-sentence when she noticed a book with a multi-colored diamond on the front cover. She walked to it and used her magic to lift it off the shelf. "Uh... What're you doing?" Twilight asked. Rarity studied the book's cover for another moment and said, "Can I check this book out too?" "The book of the rare Rainbow Diamond?" Twilight said. "That' diamond is the rarest diamond that ever existed." "Rarest diamond ever existed you say?" Rarity said. "Yeah. If you wanna check the book out, you can." "I will!" "Great." Twilight wrote the titles of the books on her Checked-Out list. "Thank you, Twilight," Rarity said. And with that, she left the library. ********** Rarity put the book of the rare Rainbow Diamond on her table, opened it, and started to read it out loud: "The rare Rainbow Diamond is the rarest diamond that ever existed. There are only five in existence, but only one has been discovered somewhere on the Himalayan Mountains. Legend has it that anypony who finds this one diamond will have good luck for the rest of their lives. It is extremely valuable and could be worth over $1.5 billion!" That was all Rarity was able to read before her little sister, Sweetie Belle came in the room. "What're you reading?" Sweetie Belle asked. "I'm reading this book of the rare Rainbow Diamond," Rarity said. "Rare Rainbow Diamond?" Sweetie Belle said. "Let me see!" She jumped onto the chair next to Rarity and read a paragraph. "Cool!" "Yes, I would say," Rarity said. "I must find the diamond." She went upstairs to get her saddle bag. When she came back down, there was a knock on the door. Rarity opened it to reveal Spike. "Hey, Rarity," Spike said. "Do you remember when Twilight let you borrow those sapphires? She kinda needs them back now" "Ah, yes of course," Rarity said. "Sweetie, can you get the sapphires Twilight let me borrow?" "Okay!" Sweetie Belle went upstairs and came back down a minute later with at least three sapphires. She gave them to Rarity, who gave them to Spike. "Thank you," Spike said. "Oh, were you going somewhere?" He noticed Rarity's saddle bags. "Yes I am," Rarity said. "I am going to find the rare Rainbow Diamond." She showed him the book. "Oh, but you can't go alone!" Spike said. The word 'diamond' made him lick his lips a little. He was already thinking of how a Rainbow Diamond would taste. "You're right," Rarity said. "Hey, Sweetie! Do you want to go with me to find the Rainbow Diamond?" "I can't," Sweetie Belle answered. "I have a meeting with the other Cutie Mark Crusaders later." "Well, okay," Rarity said to Spike. "You can come." "Great!" Spike said. "I'll go get some food to eat on the way." He was just about to go until Rarity stopped him. "Spike! This diamond is in the Himalayan Mountains all the way in China. We're gonna need more than just a couple bags of chips or something." She went to her kitchen and made a ton of sandwiches. Over thirty minutes later, there had to be at least two hundred sandwiches. "Okay then," Spike said. "I'll just... go grab my backpack and I'll be right back." And with that, he left Carousel Boutique and came back five minutes later with a backpack nearly twice his size. "I'm ready!" > 2 - Taking the Plane to China > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "C'mon, Spike!" Rarity said. "We mustn't be late for our flight to China!" Spike was walking slowly and breathing hard. It has been a pretty long walk to the airport. "Why can't- *gasp* -we just- *gasp* -teleport to the Himalayan Mountains?" He managed to say. "Because I can't teleport that far." Rarity didn't seem to notice Spike fall to the ground. After walking a few more feet, she finally noticed and used her magic to lift him on her back so he can rest. They walked through the glass doors of the airport building. They got their plane tickets, took their bags to the conveyors to load them on the plane, and went through the scanner. Finally, they were at the seats waiting for their flight. After what felt like two hours, the everypony finally boarded the plane. They went on the plane and sat down in the seats that they were assigned to. "Good afternoon fillies and gentlecolts," said a voice on the intercom. "This is the pilot speaking. We noticed somepony's luggage fell off one of the carriers and we are trying to figure out who it belongs to. Once we do, we will take off." Everypony on the plane groaned with disappointment. Even a few babies started crying. "Well I don't know about you, but I'm gonna read some more of this book," Rarity said. She took out the book of the Rainbow Diamond and started reading more. "Do you still have those sandwiches?" Spike said. "I'm getting kinda hungry." "Ah, yes, they're in the saddle bag," Rarity said. She opened the compartment above the seats and took out her saddle bag. She opened it and took out a sandwich and gave it to Spike, who took it and immediately started eating it. Rarity put the bag back in the compartment and continued reading the book. Five minutes later, the voice on the intercom finally said, "Okay everypony. We've finally found the owner of the dropped luggage. We will be taking off in just a minute." And with that, the plane started to move. Eventually, it started leaning back. The plane was now in the air. "Oh, and uh, I forgot to tell you," the intercom said. "This'll be a five and a half hour long flight so feel free to get up if you start to feel uncomfortable." Ten minutes later, an orange-colored mare with a long, red mane and tail came up to Rarity and Spike with a cart full of snacks. "Anything from the cart?" she said. "No thanks," Rarity said. "We have sandwiches." "Are you sure the little dragon doesn't want any gems?" "I'll have some!" Spike said. The stewardess gave Spike at least five gems. Spike thanked her and ate one of the gems. Rarity, who started to feel sick at the sight of gems being eaten, went back to reading the book. ********** It has been three and a half hours. Rarity has just finished reading the book of the Rainbow Diamond over an hour ago. There was nothing else to do but sit there and do nothing. She decided to get a sandwich from her saddle bag. She had just took her first bite when the intercom said, "Fillies and gentlecolts, sorry for the interruption of your peace and quiet. We are in Italy right now and the plane is running out of fuel so we're gonna have to land at an airport in Italy so you can get on another plane." Everypony on the plane groaned with disappointment as the plane started to lean forward. Eventually, the plane landed at an airport and finally stopped at the building. Everypony took off their seat belts and stood up and got out their saddle bags. Rarity put her book in her saddle bag and put it on. She shook Spike slightly to wake him up. After about three more shakes, he finally woke up. "Oh, we're here?" he said. "Not yet," Rarity said. "This plane is running out of fuel we have to get off and get on another plane." Spike took off his seat belt and stood up as the voice on the intercom finally said, "Alright, fillies and gentlecolts, you can get off the plane now. Have a good rest of your day." As Rarity and Spike exited the plane, they saw a yellow-colored mare with an orange mane and tail. The mare told them where the plane that will take them the rest of the way to China is at. Rarity thanked the mare and walked to the direction the mare pointed to. When they got there, they boarded the plane. They sat down in a seat that had the same seat number as the one they sat on on the other plane. Everypony else seemed to do the same because they recognized that white-colored mare with a black mane and tail that was sitting on a seat on the opposite side on the aisle on the other plane. "Good evening fillies and gentlecolts," a voice on the intercom said. This time the voice was a female. "We will be taking off now. Be sure to buckle up. This flight will be about two hours long." The plane started to move, Eventually, it leaned back and it was now in the air. ********** Two hours later, the plane finally hit the ground at the airport in China. Rarity and Spike took off their seat belts when the plane finally stopped and they stood up. Eventually, they were out of the plane and in the building, where they went to get their luggage from the conveyors. They left the building and hailed a taxi. "Can you take us to the Himalayan Mountains?" Rarity asked the driver as they entered the taxi. "It's pretty far from here but I'll go as close as I can," the taxi driver said. "Thank you," Rarity said. She then looked over to Spike. "Spike, are you alright? You haven't been talking much." "I'm fine," Spike said. "Can I have a sandwich though?" Rarity took a sandwich from her saddle bag and gave it to Spike. Rarity also started to get hungry so she took one herself. > 3 - Climbing the Himalayan Mountains > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The drive was almost an hour and a half long. The taxi driver stopped the vehicle and said, "This is as far I can go. We're only less than a quarter mile away from the mountains so you can walk the rest of the way." Rarity paid the driver $40 dollars before getting out of the vehicle. "Alright Spike. Let's go." She and Spike walked the rest of the way. ********** They've been walking for twenty minutes when they finally reached the base of the Himalayan Mountains. Rarity remembered that the diamond should be on the top of Mt. Everest. Spike looked up to try to find the top. He couldn't see it, but what he saw was a lot of snow in the distance. "Uh, Rarity? Did you remember to pack warm clothes?" "Unfortunately, I did not," Rarity said. "But watch this!" She summoned two heavy coats from her horn and gave the smaller one to Spike. "Wow!" Spike said as he put his coat on. "Alright!" Rarity put her coat on. "Let's go." They started climbing the mountain. They've been climbing for almost an hour now when they reached heavy snow and extremely low temperatures. Spike was so cold, he couldn't even breathe his fire. Instead, he breathed out ice and frost. Two hours into climbing, both Rarity and Spike were covered in ice and frost. Rarity took out a sandwich. Wait, were they even sandwiches?! When Rarity took one out, she noticed they became rock hard. She tried to take a bite of one, but when she did, it felt like she broke her teeth. Three hours, which felt like all day, they can finally see the top. They broke into a run. A couple minutes later, they were at the very top. Rarity started looking for the Rainbow Diamond. Spike, on the other hoof, was enjoying the view. After what felt like another hour, Rarity found something shining. The Rainbow Diamond! Rarity has found the rare Rainbow Diamond! It was on a fancy-looking stand. Rarity and Spike ran up to it. It was so colorful. Spike licked his lips as Rarity slowly grabbed the diamond. "I can't believe it!" Rarity said. "I can't believe it! I've found the Rainbow Diamond!" She put the diamond in her saddle bag before something bad happens to it. "C'mon Spike. Let's go." "Wait!" Spike said. "Don't you wanna see this!" Rarity looked at where Spike was pointing. He was right. The view is nice! Rarity could even see the Earth curve in the distance. Spike took a camera out of his backpack. "I thought we'd need this," He said. He turned it on and took a picture of the view. "Spike! Get a picture of the diamond!" Rarity said. Spike turned to Rarity and aimed the camera at the diamond. He started to get hungry, but not for sandwiches. He was hungry for that diamond. He must know what it tastes like! Instead of taking the picture, he jumped right onto Rarity and knocked her off her hooves and took the diamond from her grip. He ate the diamond in an instant. It was the best thing he ever tasted in his life! "Spike!" Rarity said frightened. "How... How could you?! You just ate an extremely rare diamond that even gives good luck to ponies to find it!" "Oh... uh," Spike was speechless. He didn't know what to say. "I... I'm sorry, I... Couldn't help myself." "Now there's no other known Rainbow Diamonds history has ever discovered!" Rarity said. "But we did find it didn't we?" Spike said. "It would give us good luck, right?" "Not anymore. You just ate it." "Like I said, I couldn't help myself!" "Okay, you know what? Let's just go home!" Rarity started walking down the hill. Spike hesitated to walk for a minute or so then decided he should catch up. > 4 - Return to Ponyville > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike and Rarity didn't talk much on the way back to Ponyville, nor when they got there. Rarity was still mad at Spike for eating the only known Rainbow Diamond that ever existed. They noticed Twilight flying to them. "Hey Rarity," She said when she landed in front of them. "Did you find the Rainbow Diamond?" "We did," Rarity said. "But Spike just couldn't help but eat it." "But you know gems are his favorite foods," Twilight said. "Especially if they're extremely rare. Those are the ones he thinks taste the best." "Oh yeah," Rarity said. She took out the book she borrowed. "Here's the book back. I won't be needing it anymore." "Thanks," Twilight said. She took out a book herself. "A new copy of the Rare Rainbow Diamond came out! Somepony discovered another Rainbow Diamond somewhere in the Grand Canyon while you were looking for the one in the Himalayan Mountains." "Really?" Rarity said as she took the book. She opened it and read it. "Another Rainbow Diamond has been found somewhere in the Grand Canyon. Somepony found it later after the Rainbow Diamond on the Himalayan Mountains has been 'accidentally' destroyed." "Wait, How did they know the one on the Himalayan Mountains was eaten?" Spike said, surprised. "I don't know, but they were quick to find out," Twilight said. Rarity continued to read. "However, the pony who found it wasn't able to survive because the lack of hydration. Like the other diamond, this will also bring good luck to ponies who find it. It is also worth over $1.5 million." That was all Rarity needed to read. She closed the book and gave it back to Twilight. "Well I guess you know what this means." "You're gonna find that Rainbow Diamond?" Twilight asked. "Without Spike of course," Rarity said. She noticed the upset look on Spike's face. "Well, I guess you can come. But promise me you won't eat the diamond!" "I don't think I can promise you that!" Spike said. The three laughed.
