> Hearts And Watches Are In No Way Similar > by Starlight Shadow > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Here Goes Nothing > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time Turner gently prodded the Golden Oaks Library door open, as if he was scared he'd break it. He tiptoed into the library like a cat, a nervous air about him. Time Turner was here to tell Twilight Sparkle how he felt about her. If he could work up the courage. "Hi! Welcome to Golden Oaks library!" There she was now, smiling, a book in her magenta telekinesis. Time Turner's heart skipped a beat. "Oh, um, hi." Deep breaths, take some deep breaths. "Hi, Twilight." Another smile. He loved her smile, her passionate teacher-Twilight smile. "Hi, Time Turner! Looking for anything in particular? There's a new shipment of fiction from the Crystal Empire library..." Eventually he began to tune her out and focus more on her eyes, lighting up with happiness every time she got to talk about her books or magic. He wished he was a unicorn, so they could talk about magic together. "Time Turner?" He blinked as Twilight stared at him expectantly. "Oh, sorry. No, I'm not looking for anything really. What are you reading?" Twilight waved her hoof dismissively. "Just some light reading. A history book about the Hearth's Warming Era." Knowing Twilight, her "light reading" was most likely an encyclopedia. The thought made him smile. "That's interesting. I...guess I'll go look around..." He gestured vaguely behind him, and Twilight nodded. He darted behind a bookshelf. Time Turner facehoofed. Multiple times. You had her, Time! You could have asked to read it with her or something! Come on! Once he was finished being angry at himself, he felt somewhat sad. What was he in the grand scheme of things to her? Nothing more than a neighbor, an acquaintance. And that was most likely all he'd ever be to her. She had saved Equestria several times over. He had fixed a few broken watches. She had wowed Princess Celestia with her magical talent. He had wowed the mailmare with a watch that had two other tiny clocks in it. She was a unicorn. He was an earth pony. Time Turner heaved a sigh. Then a book caught his eye. It had a glossy pink cover smothered in hearts, with the title written in curly purple cursive. Stallion Tips For Shy Mares. The hay? This didn't seem like something Twilight would like to read...Maybe, just maybe...His heart fluttered in his chest for a moment before he yanked it back down. Yes, Twilight might have a crush on somepony, but that didn't automatically make it him. There was Thunderlane, and Big Mac, and Comet Tail. It could be any of them. Or it could be me... He sat down and flipped the book open in curiosity. He was barely able to keep a straight face throughout. Twilight? Flirting? Twilight? Attempting to flirt? Yeah, how about no. He shook his head. "W-why are you reading that one? Not that you aren't allowed to read it, you can if you want, it's just that it was catered to mares..." Twilight's shaky, nervous voice asked. Time Turner quickly snapped the book shut and stood up. "I was just looking out of curiosity." Twilight visibly relaxed. "Oh. Okay. I understand. I look at things out of curiosity all the time. I remember when I looked at some of my brother's magazines out of curiosity..." She trailed off, and they shared an awkward laugh. "So, Twilight..." He glanced at her expression. She motioned for him to go on. "Out of curiosity..." She laughed. "Do you have a crush?" Twilight's mouth clamped shut, and she blushed furiously. "Uh, um, why would you ask that? I don't really have any interest in romance, and even if I did, nopony would be interested in boring old Twilight." Time Turner gave her a deadpan look. "Yeah. I do. Have a crush, I mean." It was hard to tell if a sweaty Big Mac or Twilight at that moment was a deeper red. They both stood there awkwardly for a few excruciatingly long minutes, the clock ticking loudly, before Twilight spoke up again. "If you promise not to tell anypony...can I tell you who it is?" Time Turner started. "Um...yeah, go ahead." Twilight leaned over to whisper in his ear, "You." Time Turner's eyes widened. Him. Twilight Sparkle had a crush on him. Of all ponies. Not Thunderlane, not Big Mac, him. "I-I mean, if you don't return my feelings that's totally okay, I just..." Twilight trailed off. Time Turner hesitated before saying in a rush, "What if I said that I liked you back? Because...I do." Twilight stared at him like she'd never seen him before, a childlike happiness present in her gaze. He stared at her in return. They both persistently stared at each other, seeing one another in a whole new light. "So...what do we do now?" Twilight asked. Time Turner let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "I could kiss you. I-If you wanted me to." Twilight leaned in closer. "That'd be nice." Accepting the invitation, Time Turner leaned in closer. Their faces were mere centimeters away from each other, their breath light and hot. Then their lips met. Her mouth tasted like tea with the slightest hint of black coffee, most likely from an all-nighter or two, the two flavors mixing in the sweetest harmony. He was vaguely aware of her tail brushing one of his hind legs, and his own tail meeting hers. Their tongues met in a dance performed since the dawn of time, teasing and tasting... "Ah-hem." They stopped and turned. Rainbow Dash was watching them calmly, looking like the cat who ate the canary. "You two lovebirds need some alone time? Because I can leave." "N-no, Rainbow, you can stay." Twilight was clearly mortified. "Congratulations, though." She tossed a meaningful glance over at Time Turner as she headed over to another section. Twilight gave a short laugh. "Heh...I kind of forgot the library was a public place there for a minute or two..." "It's fine." Time Turner assured his fillyfriend. He glanced back and forth. "So...did you want to continue?" "If it's alright with you." Twilight smiled giddily. "It feels weird, having a coltfriend. I've never had one before." "I've never been in a relationship, either." Time Turner rested a hoof on Twilight's shoulder. "We'll figure it out. Together."
