> Maybe creating dinosaurs wasn't the best thing... > by Discorded Pegasus > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: Discovery > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a bright and sunny day in Ponyville, not even a cloud in the sky. Everypony was having fun with their friends in the sunshine. Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rarity had met up for the day at Sugar cube Corner... but one seemed to be a little bit distracted. "And so 'ah said to him, 'ah can buck all these apple trees and y'all never guess what. I di-" Applejack paused half way through her sentence when she realized that across the table, one of her friends was deeply engrossed in a book. The friends were confused as to why Applejack stopped talking, until they looked over at Twilight. Twilight did not realize that all of her friends were staring directly at her, she was too distracted by her new book. "Uh... Twi? Ya mind puttin' that book down for five minutes?" Applejack asked. She wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get an answer, this was Twilight after all. Twilight lowered the book to look at Applejack and then saw that all her friends were staring at her, which caused her to blush with embarrassment. "But it's so interesting." Twilight replied. "Unless it's something awesome, I'm not interested." Rainbow Dash said as she put on her shades and leaned back in her seat. As the pegasus leaned back, Rarity moved forward, "Do you mind telling us what the books about, Darling?" "It's about Palaeontology." Twilight said, expecting her friends to know what it is. "Palaeon-what?" Applejack looked at Twilight with confusion. "Palaeontology? You know, dinosaurs?" Twilight explained. Rainbow Dash sniggered and mumbled, "Egghead...". Twilight sighed, "Yes, Dash, it does involve learning." A faint, shy voice entered the conversation almost out of nowhere. "Well, I-I think that... t-the dinosaurs were pretty c-cute..." Fluttershy said, very shyly to share her opinion. "Cute? You think vicious killers are cute?" Rainbow Dash replied to Fluttershy in confusion. "Well... o-only the Herbivores..." Fluttershy whispered. Pinkie Pie jumped up on the table and almost knocked everything off the table in the process, excited to join in on the conversation. "I like the fast ones! The one's that go voom, voom, voom!!" "Well, now that ya'll got dinosaurs on the brain, wanna explain where in the hay you got that book?" Applejack asked whilst Pinkie Pie bounced around the room shouting, "Voom!". "I found it the old castle's library. I went over there to find some new books for Ponyville's library and, while flicking through a few of them, I stumbled upon this book on Palaeontology. I started to read it and got deeply engrossed in the subject." Twilight replied to Applejack's question. "Well, the book sounds fascinating but can you please put the book down for at least five minutes and socialize?" Applejack asked with Pinkie still jumping around the room. Twilight sighed and placed the book down on the table, then held Pinkie in place with her magic. "Awwww, but I was having fun..." Pinkie said sadly. ----- Hours passed and Celestia began to lower the sun, creating a beautiful amber sunset. Sugar cube Corner was beginning to close and the friends had to leave the shop, but they had lots of fun today, once Twilight put the book down. They walked out of the shop and out into the town which now had a lovely orange sky. Applejack yawned. "Well, 'ah best be gettin' home before Granny Smith starts worryin'." She said goodbye to her friends and waved as she walked back home to Sweet Apple Acres. "Umm... R-rarity? W-would you mind walking me home... i-if you don't mind." Fluttershy only asked Rarity because she was afraid of the dark and Rarity's home is closest to her's. "Of course, darling. We'll see soon." Rarity and Fluttershy walked off to go home, leaving Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Twilight. Pinkie Pie stretched and yawned. "Well, I have to make cupcakes in the morning. I'll see you two later!" Pinkie turned and bounced home, leaving Rainbow Dash and Twilight alone outside Sugar cube Corner. "I'll see you later, Twilight." Dash said before she started to fly away. "Ok, see you soon." Twilight replied to friend. Rainbow Dash paused, turned and hovered in mid-air so that she could talk to Twilight. "Oh, Twilight?" Dash asked. "Yeah? What is it?" Twilight retorted, wondering what Rainbow Dash wanted. "Can I come round tomorrow and pick up the new Daring Doo book?" Rainbow Dash pleaded. "Uhh, yeah, I don't see why not." Twilight answered to Dash's question. "Awesome! See you tomorrow!" Rainbow Dash bolted home, leaving a faint rainbow trail behind her. Twilight then strolled casually back to her home, holding her book close to her with her magic. As Twilight walked towards her home, still holding her new book close to her side, she noticed a poster on a building that had something that looked slightly familiar. Once she got closer to the poster, she recognized the thing that caught her attention. A Tyrannosaurus Rex skull. Below the terrifying skeleton was big bold letters, spelling out: 'Jurassic Park, showing times: 4:00 and 7:00'. Twilight was intrigued by the movie poster, she was also grateful for finding that book, else she would have never been this curious in dinosaurs. "Hmm, I think I'll see that tomorrow." Twilight smiled and decided she was going to see Jurassic Park tomorrow, she then continued walking towards her home. She opened the door and as soon as she got in she put the book on the nearest table. Spike, expecting Twilight to be home earlier, asked. "Did you have a nice time?" "Indeed I did, Spike and... I also have plans for tomorrow..." -----
