Crossover story/ retelling of Final Fantasy V with some MLP FIM Characters

This story is going to be a crossover between the least known Final Fantasy game in America (FFV) and MLP. There is going to be some characters from the show to replace the main 4 characters, Bartz, Lenna, Faris, and Galuf, but I hope you guys will like what I did to the amazing story of FFV. I just hope I do the original justice with this Fanfic. i will be pretty much going scene by scene with this fanfic, but changing some events to better suit the character involved. This is mostly just to help me gain some experience in writing in general before I create my own original stories.

Please those who have never seen the story of FFV and don't plan on reading my fanfic, PLAY FINAL FANTASY FIVE (its a good game), and those who have already played it then PLAY IT AGAIN!.

(A side note: I would like to have custom coverart someday. Anyone willing to do it please message me.)

Wind, Water, Fire, Earth. These were the four elements that kept the earth together. Each element was embodied in a crystal of magic. The power of these magical crystals seemed to be infinite, so the kingdoms of the world used its power in the name of peace and prosperity. But the grave secret hidden within the crystals remains untold…

----------

One fateful dawn, a pegasus king stepped out of the central tower of his castle. He had a hardy body type with a dark blue coat and a light brown mane. Most of his features were not visible due to his full body armor which was the same color as his coat. He was king of the mighty kingdom of wind by the name of Hurrifane.

A stale breeze blew into his mane as he walked out onto the roof where his pet resided; his armor clanking as he took each step. His pet was a pale blue Hiryuu, or commonly known as a Wind Drakes. Hiryuus are majestic dragon/wyvern-like creatures that soar through the sky. They’re known to be the fastest fliers in the entire world besides the legendary Black Chocobo. The beast rose as it heard his master approaching stretching out its wings.

The pegasus stood next to the Hiryuu petting its head as he scanned the view from the top of the tower. There were placid woods and tall mountains as far as the eye could see. He took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the journey ahead of him. He heard hoofsteps from behind him and turned around to find his daughter standing before him. She had a yellow coat with a flowing pink mane. He was pleased to see her in her favorite pink dress, but she didn’t seem to be thrilled at all.

“Father…” whispered the mare, “Do you really have to go?”

“Yes I do, Fluttershy, but I won’t be gone for long,” answered the father in a tender voice.

“B-but,” muttered Fluttershy. The pegasus got herself together. “I-I want to come with you.”

The mare remained bold in front of her father, undeterred by her usually shyness. She loved her father above anything else in the entire world, and she was not going to let him go without her. She knew the trip was going to be dangerous, and she wanted to be with him to support him.

The stallion saw the determination in her daughter, and his heart warmed to know that she cared about him so much. However, he shook his head putting aside his emotions for this matter.

“No. I cannot do that, dear,” said the king in a stern voice, “I appreciate your concern, but I cannot let you accompany me. It’s far too dangerous.”

Fluttershy look to the ground dejectedly. Her prior confidence shut down. The father looked back to the forests surrounding his castle and sighed.

“I won’t let you come along, but I’ll tell you this. There is something wrong with the wind… The air is stale and winds are getting weaker by the second,” said the father, “I must go to the Wind Shrine to make certain nothing’s happened to the crystal.”

“I’ve noticed… but for you to go alone-“

“Fluttershy,” smiled the king tenderly, “You don’t have to worry about a thing. I’ll be back in no time.”

The king hopped onto the Hiryuu and the wind drake took off into the sky. The king didn’t have the stamina to fly across the
world especially with his armor on, so he took his Hiryuu. His daughter watched her father go out into the horizon, clinging onto the pendant on her neck.

----------

A young pirate lounged on the deck of the ship. The raibow mared pegasus laid on his back as the wind cooled him off while he basked in the sun in laziness. Suddenly the breeze cut off. The pirate instantly got up noticing the sudden change. He put his hoof into the air and felt nothing blowing. He flew up into the air, but the air was completely stagnant. He landed back down on the deck and whispered to himself, “The wind…. it stopped.” He looked back into the sky.

“Okay, boys! Take down the sails!” shouted the rainbow mared pirate.

“Yes, Cap’n!” the pirates shouted back following the young captain’s orders.

“Syldra!” called the captain, “Were going home!”

----------

Inside a tremoring cave, an old, bearded unicorn glared at the ground. He repeatedly stomped his hoof on the ground in aggravation and annoyance.

“Come on!” he screamed at the top of his lungs, “Hurry up, damn it!”

The unicorn started to pace around after he let out some steam. He walked towards the end of the cave and examined a black stone.

“Looks like the power is running out. I hope I even reach there in the first place let alone on time,” muttered the unicorn.

The unicorn stomped his hoof on the ground, “No more doubts. I will save the crystals! There is no room for error!”

----------

Fluttershy still stood on the roof the central tower looking in the direction her father disappeared, and then, she noticed a change in the wind. The wind was completely still.

“No,” she said. She leaped off of the central tower flying towards the Wind Shrine.

“Please… be safe!” she screamed desperately.

----------

The king ran through the Wind Shrine as fast as his legs could carry him. He tackled the doors that led to the chamber where the crystal resided, but the crystal was shaking and contorting.

“What!?” shouted the king as he viewed the crystal powerlessly.

The crystal of the element of wind cracked. The power of the crystal leaked out of the sliver and exploded. Hurricane-like winds erupted from the discharge and blasted the king into the walls, pinning him as he helplessly struggled to get out of the room. The hurricane continued to blow for it seemed like an eternity. Finally, the gust slowly subsided and the king fell to the ground. Most of his armor was torn off by the winds and ones still on him were deeply dented from his collision with the wall. He felt his muscles relax and then go numb. The king’s head hit the ground with a loud thud.

Most of the crystal disintegrated into a fine dust, leaving only 4 tiny shards of the crystal, the size of a unicorn’s horn, but bearing great power within them.

Chapter 1: The Meteor

“Nice and cozy, right Boko!” he said to his Chocobo companion. The chocobo was a yellow type, and it stood many feet taller than the pegasus.

“QUE!” screeched the Chocobo in delight.

“Hahaha. You said it, pal,” laughed the pegasus.

As soon as he stopped talking the ground started to rumble. The two companions stood up in shock.

“A quake?” said the pegasus, “This is a big one.”

“Que!” screamed the Chocobo.

“Look at the sky?” asked the pegasus.

The orange pegasus look towards the sky and saw a large meteor sail through the clouds.

“Woah, look at that!” yelled the pegasus.

The meteor crashed into the ground causing the ground to tremble once more. The pegasus looked towards his companion and smiled.

“You wanna check it out?” asked the pegasus.

“QUE!!!” squealed the Chocobo.

“I shouldn’t have even asked!” The pegasus jumped onto his companion.

“Ah! Wait! I almost forgot,” The pegasus jumped off of the Chocobo and kicked dirt into the campfire putting out the flames.

“Okay! All set. Let’s go, Boko!” He jumped back onto his companion and made their way to the crashed meteor.

The two quickly made their way northeast of the forest they were camping in going through a fairly thick desert, but thanks to Boko’s speed they crossed miles of land in a matter of minutes. The two made their way to the entrance of the forest they saw the meteor land in.

The pegasus jumped off of Boko and petted its head. “Okay Boko, I want you to stay here. I’ll be back in a minute.”

The pegasus headed down the pathway into the thick of the forest. The forest was easily navigable and didn’t have many twists and turns. He found himself in front of a large ditch and slid down into it, seeing the meteor made the indent in the earth. He started to make his way towards the meteor, but he heard screaming behind him. Two goblins were harassing a yellow pegasus in a pink dress. He ran over towards the quarrel and unsheathed the broadsword he brought with him with his wing.

“Let go of her!” he screamed at the monsters.

The monsters took their attention away from the girl and charged the orange pegasus. The pegasus placed the sword in his mouth charging back at the goblins using his wings to boost his speed. His speed surprised the goblins allowing him to swerve behind one of them and slash it in the back. The goblin screamed in pain, turned around and slashed at the pegasus with its claws. The pegasus predicted the attack and cut the goblin’s arm clean off causing the goblin to pass out due to pain.

The second goblin snuck to the side of the pegasus while he was busy and kicked him in the stomach causing the pegasus to cough up his sword. The goblin swiftly grabbed the sword by the handle pointing the blade to the orange pegasus. The pegasus backed away disarmed leaving him at a clear disadvantage. Suddenly, the Goblin fell to the ground. Behind it was the yellow pegasus that he was trying to save, holding a bloody knife on her wing.

She fell to her knees dropping the knife on the dirt, breathing heavily.

“You okay there?” asked the orange pegasus, “My name is Flash Sentry, call me Flash.”

He offered the mare his wing to help her stand up. She gripped the wing and pulled herself up still breathing heavily.

“I’ve never been in an actual battle before,” she muttered, “Thanks for saving me by the way.”

“You saved me back, so we are even,” answered Flash cheerfully. He picked up the bloody knife and handed it back to the mare. “It’s always good to have a weapon on you in case of monster attacks like that.”

The mare took the knife and sheathed it. “My name is Fluttershy. Nice to meet you, sir Flash Sentry.”

“Sir?” he asked stunned, “That’s a first. I’m not much of a knight in shining armor if you know what I mean. I am just your everyday friendly wanderer.”

He walked over to the goblin corpse and picked up his sword, sheathing it. “That luckily had sword training when he was a colt... Just the basics though.”

Fluttershy looked over towards the meteor and said, “I saw this giant rock come down from the sky. The shock waves destabilized my flight causing me to crash land into those goblins.”

“How unlucky,” said Flash sympathetically, “I just saw this meteorite land from my camp and decided to check it out.”

“So this is a meteorite, huh?” muttered Fluttershy to herself, “I wonder if it has anything to do with the wind stopping.”

She looked towards Flash and said, “Oh yeah, I thank you again for saving me, but I must be on my way-“

A deep moaning sound came in the direction of the meteor.

“Another monster?” Fluttershy asked meekly, “I don’t think I am prepared to face another one.”

“I’ll go check it out,” said Flash, “Stay here.”

Flash dashed towards the sound unsheathing his sword. The moaning stopped, and Flash called back, “I think it’s safe to come over here. It’s just some old geezer sleeping on the ground.”

Fluttershy cautiously walked over to Flash and saw an old unicorn rubbing his eyes with his hooves.

“Are you hurt?” asked Fluttershy.

The old unicorn turned towards the concerned mare and answered, “I’m sturdier than I look, ya know!”

He slowly got up indicating that he was badly beaten up... or just old. He took a look around his surroundings, “But where in the blazes am I? Sakes alive! What happened over here? A giant mole have a fight with a dragon and chucked this enormous stone here?”

“It’s a fallen meteor. It seems its crash knocked you out,” said Flash ignoring the senile unicorn’s comment.

“Hey don’t be thinking that I am going senile, young man! I see it in your expression. I am the great-“ the unicorn stopped talking, “The great umm… Who am I?”

He shook his head violently, “I can’t remember a thing!”

“You must have hit your head pretty hard, or you are just going senile,” said Flash jokingly.

“Hey! You said it out loud that time!” screamed the old unicorn.

“Thank the stars that he wasn’t hurt badly by the meteor, though. He was knocked out pretty close to the meteor. It’s probably a miracle that he is unharmed,” Fluttershy said.

“Stars… Star. Starsquiggly? Hmmm. Ah! I remember now! My name is Starswirl!” exclaimed the old unicorn, “Yeah I think some called me Starswirl the bearded,” he said proudly stroking his long beard.

“What kind of nickname is ‘the bearded?’” asked Flash, “Are you sure you aren’t making this stuff up, old man?”

“I am sure that is my name. There is no doubt in my mind, but everything else is just blank…” Starswirl starred at the ground trying to recall anything else.

“Oh yeah,” Fluttershy mumbled, “I have to excuse myself. I need to leave, right now.”

“Where to?” asked Flash.

“The Wind Shrine…”

“AH!” screamed Starswirl, “The Wind Shrine! That is where I am headed. Can you take me there?”

“Sure. I was planning on walking the rest of the way anyway. My wings are already tired out,” Fluttershy answered.

“Thank you so much! I just feel it in my bones that I need to go to that shrine!” cheered Starswirl, “Besides I can’t let a sweet girl go on such a perilous trip all by herself!”

Fluttershy turned to Flash Sentry, “How about you, Flash?”

“… Sorry, but I’m going to pass, good luck though!” answered Flash.

Fluttershy nodded and turned around to leave with Starswirl. In the middle of walking away she stopped and turned around. “Again. Thank you so much for everything.”

“Godspeed, young colt!” saluted Starswirl.

Flash sentry waved goodbye and headed back to Boko. Flash decided to ride eastward towards the way to the next town while telling Boko everything that happened along the way. As Flash finished his story, Boko suddenly stopped, flinging the pegasus off of its back. The pegasus face planted into the dirt, sliding a few feet before the friction stopped him.

“What the heck was that for, you crazy bird?! That hurt!” yelled Flash.

“QUE! Kweh, kweh!” screeched the Chocobo.

Flash slumped down. “I know… it’s just an old stallion and a mare… And with all the goblins and other monsters roaming around... Fine. I got it. I got it.”

“Kweh,” tweeted Boko in triumph.

Flash conceded “I’ll go after=”

Suddenly the ground started to tremor violently.

“An aftershock!?” Flash exclaimed. The cliffs around them started to collapse. Flash then heard screams deeper in the valley. He recognized those voices.

“Oh no!” Flash screamed. He got onto Boko, and it sprinted in the direction of the screams.

“Faster, Boko! Faster!” shouted Flash. Two figures came into view: Fluttershy and Starswirl.

“Boko! You get the geezer and I’ll get the mare!”

Boko sprinted forwards dodging the rock slides coming in from both sides of the valley. Even the ground collapsed into deep fissures probably due to underground caves collapsing. Boko picked up Starswirl with its beak, and Flash grabbed onto Fluttershy by her dress. The four of them swiftly escaped the valley.

Flash had Boko travel a significant distance away from the valley before stopping to rest. He laid the two unconscious ponies on the ground and set up a fire nearby to keep them warm. He looked towards the sky and saw that the sun was going to set in a couple hours.

“Boko, it looks like we are camping out here for the night.”

Hours passed and the two ponies remained unconscious. Flash didn’t know much about first aid and haven’t had a clue on how to check to see if the two were okay, so he just paced around them waiting for them to awaken. The two didn’t seem too injured and neither of the two was bleeding, so Flash wasn’t too worried.

The sun slowly set, and the moon rose into the sky. Boko fell asleep, and Flash stayed up to guard the sleepyheads in case a monster appeared and kept the fire going. After a few hours, he woke up Boko to watch the two ponies, so he could take a walk. Flash went up a nearby hill that overlooked the demolished valley. The moonlight lit up the rubble of the valley. The air still remained completely stagnant.

Flash looked up into the air, “What a day… I wonder if you had to go through something like this?” Flash reminisced the past in his head.

“Heh, Probably not,” whispered Flash to himself, giggling.

Flash heard the rustling of grass behind him.

“Boko, I told you to stay by those two!” scolded Flash.

“Boko is still watching Starswirl. I just woke up,” answered a gentle voice.

Flash turned around and saw Fluttershy walking towards him. “G’morning, or should I say good night? It’s still dark out.”

Flash looked into the night sky. “Hey. How did you know I was over here in the first place?” Flash said looking back at the yellow mare.

“Boko told me.”

“You understand him? I thought only I could do that,” Flash said surprised.

“I guess I can too,” Fluttershy said happily, “He has a cute voice, and he tells really funny jokes.”

Flash looked stunned. “You can probably understand him more than me. Haha…” Flash whispered and sighed.

“It seems you have saved me again, Flash Sentry,” Fluttershy said, “It seems I cannot escape being in your debt.”

“I’m telling you that it’s no big deal. Don’t worry about it. I’m not the type to keep tabs on people.”

Fluttershy smiled in response, “You are a very nice person, Flash Sentry.”

Flash pointed his hoof towards the ruined valley. “it seems that the meteorite’s shock waves caused these landslides. It’s terrifying what nature can do if we’re not careful.”

“Can we go back?” Fluttershy asked.

“I wouldn’t risk it,” answered Flash, “there still might be some loose rocks waiting to crush us under its weight.”

“That makes getting to the Wind Shrine difficult,” Fluttershy said painfully, “I guess all we can do is head north. That path is a lot more dangerous.”

Flash started walking back to camp. “But this time, I’ll be there to accompany you”

Fluttershy radiated, “Really? Are you sure?”

“Sure as I’ll ever be,” answered Flash.

Fluttershy and Flash headed towards the light of the campfire that he made. The two sat by the campfire warming their bodies from the cool night.

“Uuuurghuuunng…” murmured Starswirl in his sleep, “Gotta… get to… the Wind Shrine… Hurry!”

“Seems this old fellow is dead set on getting there,” said Flash, “But he needs his rest. He's pretty old after all.”

Boko and Flash took turns on night watch, and Fluttershy went back to sleep with Flash’s urgings. Dawn came and Boko nudged his master awake squealing small “Kweh’s” into his ear. Flash grudgingly got up and turned to see that both Fluttershy and Starswirl were already awake.

“Good morning, Flash,” said Fluttershy happily.

“Hmmm…” contemplated Starswirl, “It feels that I missed something”

The old stallion observed Fluttershy for a second and walked over to Flash, “Oh you’re such a mare’s man,” whispered Starswirl jokingly in Flash’s ear, “What did you do? Hit on her? Ask her out? Propose?”

Flash blushed, “N-n-no no no. I don’t feel that way towards Fluttershy?”

“Really?” Starswirl rubbed his beard in disbelief, “I always had the feeling that you got the hots for her. Just a hunch, ya know? I would if I was your age.” Starswirl laughed. “Well then! We should be off, right?”

Fluttershy approached Flash, “What on earth did you two talk about? You had a very strange look on your face.”

“Nothing at all,” Flash muttered.

Fluttershy and Starswirl made their way on the pathway north. Flash stood still, contemplating his life choices.

“You’re coming with us, right?” asked Starswirl to Flash Sentry.

“O-of course!” Flash answered, snapping out of his daze. He jogged to catch up with the two, “Come on, Boko!”

“Que!” squealed the Chocobo, running with his master.

The four headed north towards the north western Tycoon dessert. Goblin Bandits that lived in the dessert encountered the group, but Flash and Boko scared them away by killing a handful of the bandits's group. Goblins were mostly cowards. They only cared for their own skin and didn’t have a shred of decency and honor within them, so the rest of the bandits turned a blind eye to the group, their violent nature being suppressed by their fear of death.

Tall, untraversable mountains surrounded the group as they headed north funneling them towards a ominous cave. The group stopped in front of the cave entrance staring into its dark depths.

“There was never a cave here before,” said Fluttershy concerned.

“It probably opened up when the meteor crashed,” explained Starswirl.

Flash petted Boko. “Boko, I think this cave is too dangerous for a chocobo. I want you to stay here. I promise that I’ll be back to get you, okay?”

The chocobo gave a few sad “kweh’s” and nodded abiding to his master’s wishes. The chocobo then stood firm screeching out one last, “Kweh!” to his master.

“Thanks, Boko,” Flash nodded.

The group headed into the dark cave...

Chapter 2: The Cavern

View Online

Flash Sentry, Fluttershy, and Starswirl entered the cave cautiously. Flash lit a stick with the flint and tinder he had on him in order to light the way through the dark cave. He held the torch with his right wing. The other two ponies stuck close to Flash, close to the light. The three strolled through the cave quietly, hoping to not disturb anything living inside the caverns. They took a left turn and found a pool of water in front of them.

“Hmm?” said Flash, curiously, “Isn’t this…”

The Pegasus took out a small flask and scooped up some water from the spring. He inspected the water under the light of the torch closely.

“What a rare find!” exclaimed Flash, “This is a recovery spring.”

“A recovery spring?” asked Starswirl.

“I read this in a book once,” said Fluttershy, “It said that there are magical pools of water scattered across the world. The water holds powerful healing properties, so ponies usually collect the spring water and use it as a base for making recovery potions.”

Flash nodded. “If you soak your wounds in these waters, your wounds will heal faster than normal,” said Flash, “Hmmm. Maybe I can sell this location to some potion vender in the future. Ah, but it’s not a good time to dwell on this. We should get going.”

Starswirl stepped towards the pool of magical water and stared into its depths. His eyes widened.

“What in sakes heavens is that!?” he screamed.

A crab the size of the ponies emerged from the springs. Its eyes glared at the three ponies, and its claws snapped the air preparing to cuts its prey into pieces.

Flash drew his blade and called, “Fluttershy, Starswirl get behind me!”

“Demon Crab, Level 1 Monster, Water elemental,” muttered Fluttershy in Flash’s ears.

Flash was stunned. “Huh? How-?”

“I memorized The Beastiary, hoping that this knowledge would come in handy in the future,” said Fluttershy.

Flash stayed silent. His book, huh? He thought to himself.

The crab suddenly charged at the three ponies. Fluttershy ran into the darkness, and Flash ran to the side of the charge. Starswirl stood his ground.

“A measly overgrown shellfish will not faze Starswirl the Bearded!” the old man exclaimed. He turned around and bucked the crab straight onto its back. “Take that, monster!”

The crab recovered almost instantly and swung its pincers at Starswirl. The old pony narrowly dodged the blow. He backed away from the monster hoping to get some distance, but the crab charged him again. Starswirl noticed something strange and thought, How can I see this happening? I don’t have the torch. He looked up and saw Flash Sentry high in the air, aiming his sword at the monster.

Flash dived, pointing the blade of the sword to the ground, using gravity to strengthen his stab to crack the shell of the Demon Crab. The sword came out the bottom of the crab, and the crab stopped moving, dropping its pincers to the ground. The torch blew out like birthday candle when Flash dropped to the ground, so Flash spat out the burned out stick in his mouth.

“Great. Just great. We are stuck in a pitch black cave with no light,” Flash ranted.

“Where’s Fluttershy?” asked Starswirl as he approached the angry voice.

“She should be around here somewhere,” said Flash, “She ran off when the crab attacked.”

“Fluttershy!” called Starswirl, “Follow my voice! The torch went out!”

“I’m right here,” said a voice directly behind Flash.

Flash screamed, startled by her sudden appearance.

“Oh sorry,” muttered Fluttershy, “I was behind you most of the fight. It seems that no one noticed me, though…”

Flash sighed. “Well, I guess I’ll try to get the torch back on,” said Flash, “But it may take a while. I can’t see a thing.”

He fumbled through his belongings, looking for his flint.

“Wow. I still barely believe how dark it is! Can’t see a hoof in front of my eyes!” exclaimed Starswirl, “If only-“

A flash of light erupted from Starswirl’s horn. Everyone screamed in shock and pain.

“My eyes!” yelled out Flash, “Starswirl! Turn it off!”

“Turn what off!” screamed Starswirl. He squinted and saw his horn shining. “What in the blazes! My horn! It’s on fire! Put it out, put it out!” Starswirl took his beard the patted his horn hoping to smother out the flames.

The other two ponies slowly got used to the light emitting from Starswirl’s horn as he continued to put out the “fire.”

Flash stepped towards Starswirl and screamed in his ear, “It’s not on fire, you dolt! You are using magic!”

Starswirl came to his senses and looked at his radiating horn. He smiled in triumph.

“HA! I told you guys that I am great! I am a wizard! Behold my power!” He swung his shining horn in the air.

“It’s a light spell,” said Fluttershy, “its Level 1 magic, one of the basics. I’ve seen fillies use it easily.”

Starswirl stopped his gloating and rubbed his beard in embarrassment.

Flash signed and look towards Starswirl, “it seems that you subconsciously activated the spell because you needed a light,” explained Flash, “At least I don’t have to build a fire in the dark now. Actually, I don’t even need to make a fire at all now.” He put away the flint he was holding in his hoof.

The three ponies traveled through the cave while Starswirl was attempting to control his new powers. After a few minutes, he was able to freely turn on and off the light at will. After around an hour of traveling through the cave, Flash noticed a hoof sized hole leading outside. He looked through the hole and saw the vast ocean.

“What do you see?” asked Fluttershy.

“Just the sea,” answered Flash, “It seems that this hole is on the side of a cliff facing the ocean.”

Starswirl pushed Flash aside and took a peak out the hole. He looked forward in confusion. “Flash?” he asked.

“What?”

“The wind stopped right?” he asked again.

“Yes it did,” answered Fluttershy.

“Explain this,” Starswirl moved away from the hole.

Flash peaked through the hole and asked, “What exactly am I looking for?”

“Look to the ocean,”

Flash scanned the ocean expanse and spotted a barque boat gliding through the water.

“It’s just a boat. You never seen a sailboat before… Wait! What!?” Flash exclaimed. He looked back into the hole.

“A boat sailing without wind? How is that possible?” Flash exclaimed.

Fluttershy also looked through the hole and spotted the boat as well. It was traveling towards them.

“However it’s doing it, it’s going to dock near us,” Fluttershy said.

Flash looked out the hole one more time, but the boat was out of sight. “Let’s go look for it. Maybe they’ll give us a ride to the Wind Shrine.”

The three ponies ran through the rest of the cave looking for an exit. They came across a large opening and ran through it. Before them was a large, black flag with a jolly roger printed on it, a skull with two swords crossed in an X.

“Oh no,” muttered Flash, “What have we gotten ourselves into.”

Chapter 3: Pirate Hideout

View Online

Fluttershy inspected the displayed flag curiously. “If I’m not wrong, this is a jolly roger, right? The sign of a pirate… So that boat belonged to pirates?”

Flash heard hoofsteps out in the distance. He quickly pushed Starswirl and Fluttershy, who were both anticipating meeting the pony coming towards them, back into the cave where they game from. They hid in a crevice out of sight of the passage way of the pirate hideout.

“Are you guys insane?” Flash whispered, “These are pirates! Do you understand? Pirates! Do you want to get killed?!”

Starswirl exclaimed, “Hey guys, wouldn’t it be an amazing if-!“

Flash held his mouth shut and peeked around the corner. He signed in relief.

“Shut up,” Flash whispered, “We don’t need to announce that we are here. We need to go, now.”

“But Flash,” Fluttershy said, “We need to get to the Wind Shrine, and those pirates have a boat that can sail without wind. We need to at least ask them if they can sail us there.”

“Do you honestly think that pirates will give you ride if you ask nicely?” Flash said, “They are backstabbing, pillaging, thieving scum of the sea.”

“Ha! They’ll keel-haul us if we try that nonsense!” Starswirl whispered, “I on the other hand have a much better idea.”

“What do you have in mind?” asked Flash.

“We sneak onto the ship and take it in the dark of the night!”

Flash sighed. “You are damn gutsy for an old-timer. It’s a risky plan, but it’s not like we have any other option. This is the only chance we have in getting to the Wind Shrine.”

The three of them nodded.

-----

The three of them waited until dark to start moving. Starswirl used his light magic to illuminate the way but dimmed the light so they wouldn’t attract any attention. They passed by a few pirates who seemed to be patrol, but they were asleep on the job. The hideout was connected to the sea with an extremely large opening, large enough for the ship to fit in. The ship was docked in a makeshift port near the large opening.

Flash untied the ship from the dock, and the three ponies creaked up the board to the ship. Flash quickly sprinted his way up to the wheel of the ship. He put his hoofs around the wheel, but it didn’t move an inch. No matter how hard he turned, the wheel wouldn’t budge. Flash looked around looking for some switch to flip or button to press to start the ship.

“There has to be some trick to this ship,” Flash whispered, “Look around.”

The three ponies split up the search for the secret that made the ship sail without wind. After a minute Flash heard a yelp from Starswirl and saw a flash of light. Starswirl ran to the deck followed by a brown coated earth pony with a peg leg and eye patch.

“Trespassing on a pirate ship, eh?” the pony said, “Well I gots meself some brave or stupid landlubbers.”

He unsheathed a blade and pointed it at Starswirl, “Ye didn’t expect to steal a pirate ship without a fight, did ya?”

Starswirl stared intensely at the earth pony as Flash started to sneak up behind him for a surprise attack.

“You, sir,” said Starswirl, “Are messing with the wrong unicorn.”

His horn glowed an assertive light blue aura, and the brown earth pony was engulfed by the same glow. Starswirl flicked his horn to the side at the earth pony was flung overboard, screaming. A large splash was heard down below.

“Take that ya pirate scum!” Starswirl exclaimed.

“What was that?” asked Flash, approaching Starswirl, “I didn’t know you knew that spell. Didn’t you lose your memory?”

“I wasn’t just sitting around twiddling my hooves when we were waiting for night time. After discovering that I could do magic, I looked into myself and saw the raw magical potential within me. That look sparked my memory,” explained Starswirl.

“Wow, that is amazing,” said a voice behind Starswirl.

Fluttershy yet again appeared out of nowhere, startling the old pony.

“Good heavens, Fluttershy. You almost gave me a heart attack!” said Starswirl.

The sound of flapping wings filled the night sky. A group of 5 pegasus ponies all dressing in some sort of purple pirate uniform appeared led by a cyan coated pony. The pony had a short rainbow colored mane tied behind a purple bandana. He seemed pretty young and small for a guy, almost feminine.

One of the uniformed Pegasus said, “Capt’n what are your orders?”

“Just stand down. I’ll handle these punks,” answered the cyan pony. He had a strange voice. It sounded like a voice of a young teen, but he seemed to be the captain of the pirates.

The cyan pony approached us and took a polite bow, “Welcome to my ship, intruders. My name is Captain Dash of the Rainbowbolt pirates.“

He had a smug grin as he looked at us. “You two are very brave to attempt to steal our ship.”

Two? thought Flash. He looked around and Fluttershy was nowhere to be seen.

“Looking for an escape route?” asked Dash. He tapped his hoof on the ground and the group of pirates surrounded them. “Don’t be alarmed. They won’t attack you unless I command it. This will be just me versus you two.”

Starswirl immediately set off his telekinesis spell against the pirate.

“Useless!” yelled Dash. The light blue aura got absorbed into a pendant around his neck.

Starswirl retreated as soon as his spell got absorbed, and Flash stepped forward with his broadsword in his mouth. He charged at Dash and swung his blade. The cyan pony easily dodged every swing.

“Is that all you got?” asked the pirate. He kicked Flash’s chin and ripped the blade out his mouth.

He weighed the blade on his wing and threw it back at Flash. “Nice sword you got there. Its worn out, but you could sell it for some good gold. Its well made."

Suddenly a frightening chill went up Dash’s spine. He sensed a taste of fear and death in the air. He suddenly felt an unnatural flow in the air behind him and leaped out of the way to avoid whatever was attacking. Fluttershy was behind him, her knife stuck in the boards of the deck. Dash was breathing heavily as she evaluated what just happened.

He approached Fluttershy, impressed. “You are terrifying. I’ve never been attacked like that before in all the years I’ve been a pirate!”

He noticed Fluttershy’s pendant shining in the moonlight. “Where… where did you get this?” asked the pirate.

“My father made it,” answered Fluttershy, pulling the knife out of the ground.

“Who… are you?” said Dash in a daze.

“I am Fluttershy, princess of Hurrifane,” answered Fluttershy, “I sincerely apologize for attacking you and for attempting to steal your ship. I only attacked to save my friends from harm.” Fluttershy dropped to the ground. “I beg of you. Please allow us to use your vessel to transport us to the Wind Shrine. My father is in danger.”

Dash was breathing heavily and seemed to be panicking even more than he was before. He shook his head violently and looked towards his crew members. “Throw them in the brig,” He commanded. He turned to Fluttershy, “I’ll have an answer in the morning.”

Flash and Starswirl prepared to fight back but Fluttershy said, “Please, you two. Stand down.”

The two silently let themselves be tied up and carried to the ship’s brig, trusting in Fluttershy’s words.

The three ponies were thrown in a small jail cell in the bowels of the ship. The cell was extremely dirty and probably has been cleaned maybe twice since the ship was built. Starswirl was the only bitter one inside the cell.

“Well this is a fine pickle we got ourselves into!” he ranted, “Who was the genius who came up with the idea to steal this ship, anyways?!”

“Look into a mirror, old man,” Flash spat back.

The old stallion cowered in the corner. “Oooh… My aching head… What was my name again?”

Flash sighed and turned to Fluttershy, “So you’re actually a princess, Fluttershy? I didn’t see that coming.”

“Oh... I’m sorry. I didn’t really mean to hide it,” she muttered.

“Eh… In the long run, whether you were a princess or a beggar, I probably would have ended up helping you out,” Flash admitted, “But why were you traveling to the Wind Shrine alone? Wouldn’t you go with some guards or something?”

“After my father began his trek to the Wind Shrine, the royal army sent a vast majority of our soldiers to back him up. The rest of the troops were in charge of protecting the castle. I didn’t want to thin the castle guards, so I left alone, secretly.”

“Ye got guts for a princess.” The brown pony, who Starswirl flung off the boat, was standing outside the cell bars. At a closer look, he had a spikey black beard and a x shaped scar on his cheek as well as an eye patch and peg leg. He looked like the stereotypical pirate pony.

“What are you doing here?” said Starswirl snapping out of his headache.

“Capt’n ordered me to give you dinner. So here.” He slid three trays under the bars. It was piece bread and a cup of water. “Breads a little stale though.”

He took out a stick of butter and smeared some on Fluttershy’s bread.

Fluttershy muttered, “Thank you, um.”

“The name’s Hoofbeard. That butter is a token of my appreciation for giving my capt’n a good panic.” He had a mischievous grin. “Capt’n’s been getting to cocky now adays. He needs a good scare once in a while to get ‘em on track.” He laughed heartily as he walked away from the cell.

‘What a strange pony,” whispered Starswirl as he went back into his headache spasm. The other two started to nibble that their dinner.

Dash was in his quarters sitting on the ground leaning against the wall. His hoof was slowly massaging his head as he thought about his options. He let out a big sigh and brought the pendant around his neck to his eyes.

“They are the same pendant,” he whispered, “But that is impossible.” The pendant rocked back and forth. The pendant had a smooth, purple orb in the center decorated by silver and gold around it.

“I searched the world for a jewel with the same properties as this pendant, but never found a single one.”

He stood up and sat down in a chair. “But somehow she has an identical jewel, and identical pendant design, unless my eyes were deceiving me.” He recalled his glimpse at the pendant. “No. It even has the same inscribing within the jewel.”

He paced around his room. “What does this mean?” He looked into the ceiling. “What do I do?”
