When a dark evil threatens Equestria, a young filly named Rainbow Dash must overcome many challenges and obstacles to save the land of Equestria.
In a peaceful little village in the forest full of fillies, there lived a young filly named Rainbow Dash, who was different from everypony else. For she had no fairy, but she did have one friend named Fluttershy. One day, Rainbow awoke to find a tiny fairy beckoning her. The fairy, named Navi, had informed that the Great Deku Tree had summoned Rainbow. The pair hurried to find that there was a great evil inside him, and the two had to fight to defeat it. Once he was saved, he told them that there was a great destiny for Rainbow Dash, that she had to save the land of Equestria, and have to overcome every challenge that faced her. But Rainbow was up to the task, and up to being a hero, a hero of time!
This is my first story, so some constructive criticism would be helpful. Thanks! I hope you enjoy! Characters will be changed accordingly and or frequently. Updates/changes will happen a lot, too.
Rain was pouring down as lightning filled the skies. The castle drawbridge opened slowly as two mares came racing out, as though being chased.
One of the mares was the young princess of Equestria, princess Twilight, and the other mare was her attendant, Luna.
Then he stepped out into the night. There he was, the king of evil, known as King Sombra.
"..... really depend on such a lazy boy?"
Rainbow Dash slowly awoke from her nightmare to see a tiny light blue fairy hovering right in front of her.
Rainbow was amazed at the sight of the tiny little fairy, as the filly has never had one of her own.
"You've finally woken up!" The blue fairy exclaimed.
"I'm Navi the fairy! The Great Deku Tree said we would be partners from now on! Nice to meet you!"
"Oh, um, nice to meet you too!" Rainbow Dash mumbled kindly.
Navi rushed towards the door in a hurry.
"The Great Deku Tree has summoned you, so we need to get going, right now!"
Rainbow Dash nodded and slowly got out of bed. As she walked outside, she saw her friend Fluttershy standing right in front of her treehouse.
"Hi Rainbow Dash!" she said while waving at her.
" I see you've finally got a fairy! I am so happy for you!"
Rainbow Dash grinned.
"Thanks Fluttershy!" she said. "The Great Deku Tree has summoned me, so I have to get going soon."
"Oh, Really? Thats wonderful! Well, I know you must be in a hurry, so i'll let you be on your way now! Bye Rainbow Dash!"
Rainbow bid her farewell and departed for the Great Deku Tree.
When Navi and Rainbow got to the entrance of the pathway to the tree, they were stopped by Dumb-Bell, who was guarding the path.
"Hey, Ms. no fairy!
What business do you have with the Great Deku Tree, Rainbow?" He sneered. "You don't even have a fairy yet! Ha! He snickered.
Without a fairy, you're not even a real mare!"
Then he realized that Rainbow Dash already had a fairy.
"What!?" he shouted in pure disbelief. "You already have a fairy?!? And the Great Deku Tree actually summoned you!?! How?!?"
The young colt was at a loss for words. He simply couldn't figure out why the Deku Tree would summon Rainbow Dash instead of him.
Dumb-Bell was furious. "I don't get it, I mean, you're not even fully equipped yet!" He shrieked.
"How in Equestria do you think you could help the Deku Tree without a sword and shield!?
What? You're right. I don't have any equipment ready either, but.....
if you want to pass through here, you need a sword and shield ready!" He barked.
"Sheesh!"
Rainbow Dash groaned. "All right. Fine. I get it!" With that, she trotted away in search of a sword and shield.
Once she had gathered enough rupees in the grass and behind buildings to buy a Deku Shield, she wandered around the village in search for a sword.
When Rainbow went up to talk to a colt sitting on a hill about finding a sword, Navi pointed out that there was a mysterious hole just big enough for Rainbow to fit through.
Once they had crawled through the hole, they saw a a few pathways to go through.
When they approached the entrance to it, a big boulder came just inches away from Rainbow's muzzle.
"Watch out!" Navi yelled, as Dashie backed away, startled.
"You have to be more careful, and watch where you're going!"
Rainbow sighed. "Okay Navi. Sorry. Now, let's see if we can find the sword in here."
She trotted on warily and was on the lookout to avoid being hit by the boulders.
Then, at the end of one of the paths, she found a big treasure chest.
"Open it! The sword is probably inside!" Navi yelled excitedly.
Rainbow Dash started to open the chest and luckily found the hidden treasure of the Koriki, the Koriki Sword!
The Pair then exited out of the maze cautiously and made their way back to Dumb-Bell.
When the two got back to Dumb-Bell, fully equipped and ready, Dumb-Bell said, "If you want to see the Great Deku Tree, you should at least equip a sword and shield.
Eh, whats that?" He asked to no one in particular.
"Oh, you already have a Deku Shield......." He said, gloomily.
"And whats THAT?" He shouted in disbelief.
"Isn't that the Koriki Sword?!? GOOD GRIEF!!!"
Dumb-Bell couldn't believe his eyes.
"How in Equestria did you get that!? I can't believe this! Well, even with all that stuff, a wimp is still a wimp.
I still will never accept you as one of us Koriki."
Dumb-Bell stopped for a moment and frowned before continuing.
"Shoot! How did you get to be a favorite of Fluttershy and the Great Deku Tree? Huh?" He grumbled.
And with that, he finally got out of the way and let Rainbow Dash through to the grove of the Great Deku Tree.
"Oh... Navi.... Thou hast returned......" The Great Deku Tree said.
"Rainbow..Dash..... Welcome...." He paused for a moment before continuing.
"Listen carefully to what I am about to tell thee........Thy slumber these past moons have been restless for me, full of nightmares.
As thy servants of evil gain strength... A vile climate pervades the land and causes nightmares to those sensitive to it." He said grimly.
"Verily, thou hast felt it.... Rainbow... The time has come to test thy courage... For I have been cursed...And I need you to break thy curse with your wisdom and courage.... Dost thou have thy courage to undertake this task?" The Great Deku Tree said gravely.
"Yes, Yes I do, Great Deku Tree!" Rainbow Dash said bravely.
"Then enter, thy brave one, and thou too Navi." He said, while opening his mouth.
"Thou must aid Rainbow Dash, and Rainbow..... When Navi speaks... Listen well to her words of wisdom."
And with that, Rainbow Dash and Navi entered the Great Deku Tree and began their quest to save him.
As soon as they entered, they could sense a presence of a great evil lurking there inside the tree.
They trekked on through the dungeon, solving puzzles, flipping switches, jumping off ledges, and acquiring new items, including a new slingshot.
Then they happened to come across a room where there was a single Changeling.
Once they defeated it, it told them "Please forgive me master! I'll never do it again! If you spare me, i'll teach you something cool.
You'll never defeat the other Changelings if you don't punish them in the proper order! The order is.....2 3 1. Just remember, twenty-three is number one! Do you think i'm a traitor?" asked the Changeling innocently.
At the upcoming room with the 3 Changelings, Rainbow Dash used the code on them by shooting her slingshot at the second one, then the third one, and next number one.
Once she had did that, The last one had said "How did you know our secret?! How irritating! It's so annoying that i'm going to have to reveal Queen Chrysalis' secret to you! In order to administer the coup de grace to Queen Chrysalis, strike her with your sword while she's stunned. Oh Queenie....Sorry about that!" He apologized as he hopped away.
"Okay. Now we know part of how to defeat her!" Rainbow Dash said, gleefully.
"Yeah, thats great!" Navi shouted. "But we need to get going now, don't you agree?" she asked.
"Yeah, alright." Rainbow said while nodding. "Lets go defeat Chrysalis!"
When the pair entered 's chamber, it was pitch black. The door slammed shut behind them without warning.
The two looked around suspiciously, and when Rainbow looked up, she saw something that looked somewhat like a glowing orb.
Rainbow Dash and Navi were suprised to find that it was an eye!
Chrysalis' to be exact, and once they saw it, it spotted them and the battle began. Chrysalis jumped down from the ceiling and raced towards Rainbow.
She thought fast and shot Chrysalis in the her eyes with her slingshot.
"She's stunned! Slash her eyes with your sword, now!" Navi yelled.
Rainbow Dash sliced and slashed at her eye with no remorse.
When Chrysalis retreated up to the ceiling again, her eyes turned red this time.
Rainbow Dash, confused, didn't know what else to do but shoot her with the slingshot, but when she shot it, Rainbow did it too late.
Chrysalis had already laid her eggs.
The 3 babies hatched instantly, and while Rainbow Dash was distracted defeating the babies, Chrysalis creeped up on Rainbow and was about to attack as Navi yelled,
"Hey! Watch out!"
That was enough to alert Rainbow Dash to look behind her and see Chrysalis towering above her.
Rainbow Dash was quick enough to get away before Chrysalis attacked her, and once she got away, Rainbow slashed her eyes once more and with the last blow, Rainbow Dash defeated Queen Chrysalis.
When it was all over, a blue portal appeared with a heart container.
Once Rainbow grabbed it, she stepped inside the blue portal and let the light transport her away.
When Rainbow Dash opened her eyes, she found herself back at the meadow of the Great Deku Tree.
"Well done, Rainbow Dash." She heard the Great Deku Tree say.
"Thou hast verily demonstrated thy courage. I knew that thou wouldst be able to carry out my wishes.... Now I have more to tell thee, if thy is willing to listen?" He asked.
"Um, yes please, Great Deku Tree" Rainbow replied nervously.
"Listen carefully now, a wicked stallion of the desert cast this dreadful cures upon me.... This evil stallion ceaselessly uses his villainous, sorcerous powers in search for the Sacred Realm that is connected to Equestria.
For it is in the Sacred Realm that houses the ancient and divine relic, the Triforce, which contains the essence of the three gods, Din, Nayru, and Farore.
Before life, time, or spirits began, there were three golden goddesses that descended upon the chaos of Equestria." The Deku Tree informed.
"Din was the goddess of power, Nayru was the goddess of wisdom, and Farore was the goddess of courage. Din, with her strong flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created, shaped, and structured the red earth. Nayru, poured her wisdom into the land and gave the spirit of law to the world. Farore, with her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold and respect the law. The three divine goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens." The Great Deku Tree Explained.
Three golden Sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world.
Since then, the sacred triangles have been the basis for the worlds foundation.
Thou must never allow the evil Gerudo stallion in balck armor to lay his hooves on the sacred Triforce.
That stallion has an evil heart, and he must never be allowed to enter the Sacred Realm, let alone setting his hooves on the Triforce.
That evil stallion has put the curse on me, and he has sapped all my energy and strength. Because of that curse, my end is nigh.
Though your valiant efforts to break the curse were successful, I had this unfortunate fate from the beginning.
Yes, I will pass away soon, but Navi and Rainbow Dash, do not grieve for me.
I have been lucky enough to tell you of these imperative events, as you are Equestria's final hope.
Rainbow Dash... Hurry to Canterlot Castle, across the fields, outside of Koriki Forest.
There, thou will surely meet the Princess of destiny.....Twilight Sparkle." He said.
Take this special stone with you, as this is the stone the stallion wanted so much, so much that he placed this curse on me.
This stone, it is the special Koriki's Emerald! I entrust it to you, Rainbow Dash.
You must deliver it to Princess Twilight...and hurry..Equestria's future......depends.....on thou.
Navi, help Rainbow.. to carry out ....my will...I entreat...ye..Navi......Good..bye....."
Those were the Great Deku Tree's last words.
His bark started to shrivel up and his leaves turned grey, as some of them started to fall off.
"Let's go to Canterlot Castle Rainbow dash." Navi said sadly.
As Rainbow Dash trotted out of the meadow, heavyhearted, Navi said her final goodbyes to the Great Deku Tree.
As they walked out of the pathway, they found Dumb-Bell standing right in front of them, steaming mad.
"Hey!? Rainbow Dash! What did you do?!" He asked frantically. "The Great Deku Tree.....Did he......Die? How could you ever do such a horrible thing like that?!? This is all your fault you lunatic!!!" He yelled as he stormed off.
"Well, I guess we should go now." Navi said with a sigh.
"Wait, what?" Rainbow Dash asked, distracted.
"I meant let's go get this stone to the princess." Navi said, a bit annoyed.
"Oh...yeah. That. Right...." Rainbow said sheepishly.
As the two made their way out of Koriki village in silence, when they approached the giant log to take them out to the Equestrian fields, Rainbow hesitated a moment before continuing.
"Are you nervous?" Navi asked sympathetically.
"To be honest... i'm a bit nervous too." She admitted.
"I know neither of us have been outside of Koriki forest before, and you're a filly, and i'm just a fairy, but I have knowledge of most of the creatures outside there from the Great..Deku...Tree." Navi started to tear up at those words, but she resumed.
"I know we can do this, Rainbow Dash! " Navi encouraged.
"Thank you, Navi. I'm really glad to have you as a partner, and I really appreciate it." Rainbow said, thankful. "Let's go."
As the two made their way across the bridge to the fields, they were suddenly stopped by Fluttershy.
"Oh, you're leaving.......?" She asked, heartbroken. "I....I knew....that you would leave the forest....someday, Rainbow.....Because you are different from me and my friends.....But that's ok, because we'll be friends forever.......won't we?"
Fluttershy paused for a moment and took a deep breath. She knew that this was for the better.
"I want you to have this ocarina.......Please....take good care of it." Fluttershy said as she placed the ocarina in Rainbow's hoof.
"When you play my ocarina, I hope you will think of me, and come back to the forest to visit."
When she finished speaking, Rainbow, not good at saying goodbye, awkwardly backed up and ran out to the Equestrian fields, to sick at heart to say anything, as Navi flew behind her in a hurry.
"Goodbye....." Whispered Fluttershy.
As Rainbow Dash trotted into the Equestrian fields, she gasped.
"It's...it's huge!" She said in awe.
"You're right!" Navi replied. "But what else did you expect?" She asked.
Rainbow said nothing and just shrugged.
As she walked ahead around the bend of the pathway, Rainbow heard an owl hooting somewhere but she couldn't tell where, until she heard this voice,
"Hoot hoot! Rainbow....Look up here!"
She saw an owl perched up on a tree branch right next to her.
"It appears that the time has finally come for you to start your true adventure!" The owl had said.
"You will encounter many hardships and difficulties ahead.... but that is your fate. Don't feel discouraged, even during the toughest times! If you keep going straight this way, you will find yourself at Canterlot castle.
You will meet a princess there.... and if you are lost, and don't know which way to go, take a look at your map.
Did you get all that?" The owl asked suddenly.
"Oh, um, yes." Rainbow stammered.
"All right then." The owl said. "I'll see you around!" He said before flying off.
"Well, that was odd." Navi stated. "You didn't even get his name!"
"Yeah, I guess it was." Rainbow agreed. "And how did he know I had a map and my fate and all that?" she asked suspiciously.
"I'm not sure, but I do know we have to get at least a little bit across the field before nightfall." Navi said as she flew around frantically.
"Navi, calm down! We can spare a little time." Rainbow Dash told her.
"No! If we delay any longer, it'll be nighttime before we even come remotely close!" Navi pleaded unhappily.
"Oh come on, Navi! We can rest just a little bit!" Rainbow said as she groaned.
"No, we can't, now come on!" Navi bickered.
"Of course we can spare a little time Navi! Seriously! Just you calm down!
"No, I can't calm down because we are going to be very late! Navi said angrily.
Yes we can, Navi! Just listen to me!" Rainbow said, irritated.
"No, Rainbow, now you listen to ME!" Navi said a bit harshly. "It might take a few days, but we should be a little ways across right now! Navi told Rainbow sternly. "Ok, let's get going now before we waste any more time, so come on! We gotta go, right NOW!"
As the filly and the fairy raced across the field, the sun slowly started to go down.
"What?!" Navi shouted. "It's already sundown? I told you Rainbow, we should've went earlier!" she spat. "Alright, now-
Navi was cut off by the sound of what sounded like a Timberwolf howling.
"What was...That?!?" Navi asked, uneasily.
"I'm..not sure..." The filly spoke as she started to tense up.
Then, out of nowhere, came terrifying, skeleton-dragon looking creatures!
"What are thoseth thingths, Navi?" Rainbow asked panicked, with the sword in her mouth, as she started to fight them off.
"Um, I think they're called Stalchildren!" Navi said hurriedly.
"Don't be afraid of them! Just keep attacking them!" Navi told Rainbow.
As Rainbow kept attacking, they kept appearing, one after another. Ultimately the best option was to run from them, until, that is, morning came.
As dawn started to break, they heard the crow of a rooster and the Stalchildren disappeared.
Rainbow Dash, dog-tired, lied down, exasperated from all the running and fighting, and even all that fighting with Navi.
"I'm really sorry, Navi. I never should've fought like that with you like that. We're partners, and we should be able to work together." Rainbow apologized genuinely.
"You'll forgive me, won't you?" Rainbow asked, ashamed of her arguing with her.
"Of course Rainbow Dash! Why wouldn't I forgive you? We're a team, and fighting over something stupid like that? Really? It's unnecessary bickering!" Navi answered.
"It is partly my fault, too." She admitted honestly.
"Ok, now that we've got that out of the way, should we get going again?" Rainbow asked casually.
Navi chuckled. "Yes." She answered.
As the two had an eventful day of traveling, they finally got to Canterlot Castle in the evening.
"Well, here we are!" Navi breathed happily.
"Yeah, what are we waiting for?!" said the filly, pleased, as she raced into the market with the fairy following closely at her hooves.
Rainbow and Navi gasped in unison when they entered the market.
"Wow! Look at everything!" Rainbow squealed in happiness.
"Woah..." Navi breathed.
"It's amazing! Look at all the cool stuff you can do and buy, and eat!" Rainbow said, wandering off into the crowd of ponies.
"Yeah...Wait! No, Rainbow!" Navi said, shaking her head. "We can't get distracted! We need to deliver this stone to the princess, remember?" She asked questioningly.
"Thats the second time you've forgotten!" Navi sighed then giggled. "Come on, Dash, they said as they squeezed through the crowded marketplace.
Rainbow Dash, distracted at looking at all the juicy, delicious, succulent, foods that the marketplace had to offer, Rainbow spotted another young filly.
She had a orange coat, yellow mane and tail, both in ponytails, green eyes and freckles, a brown stetson, and three red apples as her cutie mark.
Rainbow saw that the filly looked worried, and was looking around for somepony.
"Um, hi there!" Rainbow said.
"Oh, um hello to you too! the other filly answered. "Nice to meet you! I'm Applejack, and I help my big brother work at Lon Lon Acres! Applejack said proudly.
You aren't from around here are you? You don't have your cutie mark yet, and you don't look like you can fly yet, either." Applejack said, a bit less cheery.
"You're right, Applejack. But don't feel sorry for me! I'm still tough! I just defeated Queen Chrysalis!" Rainbow bragged.
"Oh, um, that's cool!" Applejack said, not really knowing what else to say, even though she was very interested.
"Anyway." Applejack said as she cleared her throat. "I'm looking for my brother and I ain't sure where he is. I'm thinking he's at the castle sleeping the day away when he is supposed to be delivering apple crates from the farm." She said worriedly.
"Since you're all adventurous, can ya'll keep and eye out for my brother?" Applejack asked.
"Yeah, sure!" Rainbow responded.
"Ok! Thank you! Have a mighty fine day!" AJ said nicely.
"Ok, I will! See you around! Gotta Dash!" Rainbow said as Navi hurried her away.
"We can't be late Rainbow Dash! Hurry up!" Navi insisted.
Rainbow Dash and Navi fled out of the crowded streets and bustling ponies while Applejack stood there, smiling; eyes shining.
"I wonder what it must be like to have a true adventure like that." She whispered under her breath.
When they got out of the marketplace to the pathway to the castle, it was already sundown.
That is when they heard a beautiful voice, as somepony was singing. It turned out to be Applejack singing the melody.
When Rainbow approached her, Applejack stopped singing and smiled elegantly at her.
"Hi again, fairy filly! Are you going to the castle? Well anyway, if you are, would you mind finding my brother, Big Macintosh?" Applejack asked.
"I know for sure he is sleeping somewhere around the castle. What a thing for him to do!" She laughed.
"Oh, yeah! If you look for him, i'll give you this!' AJ said while giving Rainbow an egg. "I've been incubating this egg very carefully! Take good care of it from now on!"
After that, Rainbow said her thanks and climbed up some vines on a wall to bypass some of the guards.
She had to do it very stealthily, because Navi told her if she gets caught, you'll be thrown out of the castle. So Dashie then made her way, carefully I might add, to the entrance of the Castle courtyard by going over a a tall brick gate, across a meadow, and through a moat, guards scattered here and there.
Once she got past all the royal guards successfully, she found herself next to the castle with a narrow pathway, the moat on her left as she walked down it, and Rainbow found what she thought was Big Macintosh sleeping near the apple crates he delivered, as he was just as Applejack described to her. She realized that the water drain on the castle wall had an opening just big enough for her to fit through.
Then, just as the sun rose up across the mountain tops on the boarders of Equestria, She heard that the egg Applejack had gave her hatched!
As it crowed, it was enough to wake Big Mac up from his slumber.
"What in tarnation!?" big Mac yelled, startled. ''Can't a pony get a little shut-eye 'round here?" He said. Then he realized it was just a little filly. "And whom might you'll be little one? he asked. "Eeyup. I'm Big Mac. Me and my sister run Lon Lon Acres. I came here to the castle to deliver some apples, and I guess I sat down for a moment and fell asleep..."
"Well, um, Applejack is actually still waiting for you at the market." Rainbow told Big Macintosh.
"What!? I Left her there!? I'm going to catch it from her now, eeyup! I really messed up bad! I can't believe I left AJ behind her to wait for me! I'm really gonna pay for this now!" Big Mac screamed as he ran away, in pursuit of Applejack.
Rainbow was left standing there with a smirk on her face, trying not to laugh.
"Oh, well. That was...." Navi said trying to think of a word to fit it. "Odd." She finished.
As Rainbow stood standing there, Navi tried to think of a way to get into the castle courtyard. She saw a door right in front of her on the castle wall, but when she tried to get Rainbow to open it, it was locked. That is when she saw the hole where water comes out from a little pool of it in the courtyard on the wall, creating a miniature waterfall. But problems arose when they couldn't figure out a way to get up to the hole. Rainbow suddenly said,
"I got it! If we move those crates over in front of the water passage, I could jump from there across the moat to get to the ledge under the hole!"
"Thats a great idea Rainbow! Move those crates then!" Navi ordered.
As they successfully completed that, the filly and the fairy managed to fit through the hole and get to the castle courtyard. Once inside, they found hedge mazes and marble statues with royal guards protecting them and trying to stop her from getting to the princess.
Rainbow eventually got to the princess' meadow with the small winding stream surrounding the whole place like a small island. There were small but beautiful flower gardens around the yard, and Rainbow Dash saw the little princess of Equestria, still only just a filly like her, peering through a window that leads to the royal Kings Chambers.
Then Rainbow saw Princess Twilight turn around in shock and asked,
