Book One: Night and Day > by Futile Task > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter One: We Ride For Ponyville > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luna looked over the letter Pinkie Pie had sent to her sister Celestia, going over each detail as she read it again and again. It had been at least a full month since the “too many Pinkie’s” incident, and several days after Discord had been reformed, and now Luna was reading this letter, a fiendish little plan forming in her mind as she waited for her sister to arrive. It had been ages she surmised, since her and her sister had last sought out ponies in a romantic sense, a very long time, and with the rediscovery of the mirror pool, Luna was thinking it was about time for her and her sister to go out and seek some much needed romance. She looked up as the door as it opened, smiling as her sister walked in and made her way to Luna’s bed, climbing on top of it and nuzzling Luna as she took a glance at what Luna was reading. “Ah, I see you have been reading the elements friendship reports again, anything interesting?” “Indeed I have sister,” said Luna with a smile, “but before I reveal what that is I had a question to ask you. How long has it been since you have gone out with somepony, romantically speaking?” Celestia gave Luna a stern look, but placed her chin in her hoof as she though, finally shrugging her shoulders as she turned back to her sister. “I guess I haven’t been with a pony romantically since before I banished you Luna, I would assume the same holds true for yourself?” Luna nodded, “yes, the same does hold true. Which is why I wanted to propose that if you are willing, we go out and seek ponies romantically once more, so that we may try to…fill a long empty void in our lives once again.” Celestia looked surprised, nay she was surprised. She had long ago given up the search for a…romantic partner after Luna had been banished, being too distraught at the time during the first few years, and then chalking it up to a resignation that she was doomed never to have a pony that could stay by her side for the rest of her immortal life. But with the rediscovery of the mirror pool, she and Luna could possibly try again, and maybe this time find that special somepony to make their hearts go wild. She finally looked back at Luna, smiling as she nodded to her sister. “You know what, your right; it has been too long since we have courted anypony. Do you have anypony in particular this time sister, or do you just want to go wild and find some random pony?” “I actually do have a pony in mind sister,” said Luna with excitement, getting up and heading over to her dresser to grab something before heading back and handing it to Celestia. It turned out to be a picture of Twilight and her friends, and it seemed Luna had drawn circles around Fluttershy, and several red hearts surrounding the circles. Celestia laughed, “I should have known, you were always into the shy ones. I guess that just leaves me with finding a pony.” “Oh but I already know who would be best for you,” said Luna, grabbing a quill and drawing an arrow, which pointed directly at Celestia’s prized pupil, Twilight Sparkle. Celestia’s eyes widened at that, a blush forming on her face as she started to speak. “But…but I, she would never…I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Her sister gave her a knowing look, the kind of look sisters give each other when they know they are not being truthful. “Tia I know you better than that, I have seen the way you look at her, that longing in your eyes. You want her to be more to you than just a student, more than just a friend, you want her to be somepony you can call love, and be called the same by her.” Celestia stammered, she mumbled, but not once did she deny what her sister was saying, finally sighing as she nodded her head. “Very well sister, it seems you still know me better than most, even after all these years, so what’s the plan?” Luna smiled and set down the photo, pulling out a scroll with a checklist and marking it off. “The first phase I have already taken care of, purchasing a place of residence in Ponyville so that we can stay in close proximity to our intended partners. Phase two will involve us going down to the mirror pool and using our magic to create our clones, that way nopony will miss us while we date these lovely ponies.” “I will have to remember to write mother a thank you letter for showing us that little trick, though I still can’t believe she used it.” Luna nodded, “yes I know, but let’s get back to the plan. Phase three will consist of us taking on our old disguises of Sunbeam and Moonbeam, and then moving into Ponyville before dropping by to visit our intended partners. Now I have already visited Ponyville several times as Moonbeam, and have gotten to know Fluttershy pretty well as a friend during those brief trips, but what of yourself?” “Um…well I used to change into Sunbeam and…pretend to be a student along with Twilight, helping her with lessons when I could not as myself, and we have kept that relationship going ever since, even after she moved to Ponyville.” “Ah good, then phase four will go off without a hitch!” “And what is phase four?” Luna smiled, “Why, asking the lovely ponies out on a date of course.” Celestia sighed but nodded, getting up and lighting up her horn before turning back to her sister. “I suppose we will want to get started on this right away, so why don’t we go now.” Luna nodded, standing as Celestia teleported them both to the mirror pool. They both used the magic, reaching out to the pool and then reaching in with their hooves, pulling out mirror clones of themselves, who smiled at them and then sat to listen to their instructions, before nodding and teleporting to the palace without them. “I can already feel the responsibility lifting off my shoulders; oh it will be so fun to be normal ponies again.” “I know sister,” said Celestia, changing into her disguise along with Luna and then teleporting outside the boundaries of Ponyville. “Well, we better go visit our intended; I assume the house is already in order?” Moonbeam nodded, “Then let us go,” said Sunbeam, before beginning her trek toward the library as Luna flew off to Fluttershy’s cottage.
