> The Alicorns > by The Nightmare > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You know you are in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." ~ Dr. Seuss Rainbow Dash had never expected to fall in love; especially not with him. It was completely unexpected. The tomboy loving the rich man? Almost impossible. They had met at the Grand Galloping Gala. Rainbow Dash had not wanted to go, due to the fact that the Gala the year before had been disastrous, but she agreed to go; for Rarity's sake. Rarity had been talking with a unicorn, a stallion with a monocle. “As you can see, my new line will be just fantastic! I expect to sell at least twenty of each design, if not more.” Rarity exclaimed, hoping to keep his attention. That's when he had noticed Rainbow. “Is that from your new line, Rarity?” The stallion asked, noting the detail and variety of color on the ensemble. “Why, yes. I always give my closest friends the dress of their choosing before the line is released.” Rarity said. “Oh Rainbow Dash!” Rainbow looked at Rarity and smiled. She flew over. “Rainbow Dash, this is Fancypants. Fancypants, meet Rainbow Dash.” Rainbow Dash merely shrugged. She wasn't one for meeting fancy-schmany poines who were appaled by her manners—or rather, lack of them. “How-dee do, Fancypants.” Rainbow said. “You can just call me Rainbow.” “Well, Rainbow, I quite like your dress.” Said Fancypants. The dress was a thing if beauty: It was long enough to reach the ground, yet short enough not to trail. The colors perfectly contrasted with her mane; and the faux fur lining perfectly suited Rainbow; for it looked like the trimming was made of clouds. The golden chain that went around Rainbow's neck made her look regal, but still herself. The golden hoof-covers went well with the outfit, along with the golden laurels that went atop her head. “Thanks.” Said Rainbow. There was something...different around this pony; he was genuine when he complimented her, not just stared at the dress before offering to pay her lots of money for it. “Mmmhmm.” Rarity cleared her throat. Both ponies returned their focus to the fashionista. “Fancypants, would you like to join me and my friends after the Gala for some donuts?” Rarity asked. She had noticed Fancypants fondness for Rainbow Dash. Maybe if I spark something between them, Rainbow Dash will....slow down a little bit. Since Applejack had given birth to a filly, Rainbow Dash had been bored and running around the town, since AJ was her best friend. “The Gala's almost over. You wanna go now?” Rainbow asked Rarity, snapping her out of her thoughts. “Huh? Oh, yes.” Rarity answered, and the seven—er, eight went to the donut shop. Over the next few months Fancypants and Rainbow Dash grew closer. Fancypants would take Rainbow Dash to Wonderbolt performances, although he would have to convince her to stay seated and just watch them. Then they would usually go to one of Fancypants favorite restaurants. Eventually Rarity was correct. Rainbow slowed down; but only after Fancypants proposed to her. Rainbow Dash said yes. So both of them had to work out some problems: Where they would live, first of all, since Fancypants lived in Canterlot and Rainbow lived in Ponyville. They both agreed to live in Ponyville, but would visit Canterlot every once in a while. That is, until some startling news entered their home. Rainbow Dash was pregnant. > Chapter The First > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash was sitting in the delivery room, nuzzling her two beautiful foals. "Oh, they're beautiful," Whispered Rarity. She admired the filly's green and blue mane, which blended perfectly with her dark green body. The colt was also impressive. His red and black mane and tail were handsome, and his coat matched his sister's. "The filly seems to be a unicorn, and the colt seems to be a pegasus," Twilight Sparkle said. "Maybe you should as Mrs. Cake for advice on raising two foals, plus they have different magic. Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake are a handful." But then the filly spread some wings, and the colt brushed his hair aside to show a horn. All the ponies gasped. "They're.....alicorns." When Twilight Sparkle said those words, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna appeared. "Alicorn foals?" Luna asked, her voice still slightly regal. "Alicorns...." Celestia said, a slight frown on her face. "Is there anything wrong, Celestia?" Twilight asked her mentor, a slight look of worry upon her face. "Oh no, nothing is wrong, my student." Celestia said, her normal tone returning to her voice. "Me and Celestia just have pressing matters back in Canterlot, and we are very stressed." Luna said, her face as silent as a stone. Rainbow Dash looked up at Luna and Celestia. "Thanks for visiting!" She said. An instant later, the princesses disappeared, probably teleporting back to Canterlot. "Odd. There was something...off about the princesses." Twilight said, a slight crease in her forehead. She would hate it if her princesses were sick or had very pressing matters back at Canterlot. She didn't like it when the princesses were stressed. Just then, the nurse entered the room. "All right, girls. Rainbow Dash needs her rest. All of you should leave." The nurse started to herd them out. Fancypants, who had been silent until now, looked at his wife. "Are you sure you will be ok?" He asked his wife. Rainbow Dash chuckled. "I'll be fine, Fancypants." Rainbow Dash told her husband, a look of love on her face. Fancypants gave his wife a quick kiss, then left. Two nurses entered and put the alicorn foals into the nursery. The hospital closed then, and all was silent and peaceful. The next morning, Rainbow Dash awoke to a scream. Being the energetic pony she was, she immediately got up and ran to the commotion. "What's wrong?" She asked the nurse, who pointed into the nursery. Rainbow Dash didn't see the problem at first, all the foals were sleeping peacefully; until she laid eyes upon her own foals beds. Her foals were gone. ~*^*~ Luna looked to her older sister. "Celestia, we had to do this." She said, nearly glaring at her elder sister. "Why, Luna? Do you know how worried their mother will be?" Celestia said. Her eyes were slanted with worry, and her usual smile was upside down. "Remember the prophecy?" Luna nearly hissed. "When the next Alicorn foals are born" "The current rulers must bow down before them" "For the rulers' magic is dying, and theirs is new" "And they must rule forevermore." Luna finished the prophecy with the stamp of her hoof. She had just been released from the moon, and was not going to be kicked off the throne just like that. Celestia sighed. "I understand, Luna. But locking them away is not going to solve anything!" Celestia said. "They're just foals. If they never discover the prophecy, they can never fulfill it! We should have left them in Ponyville..." Celestia murmured the last bit, bowing her head. "But I see your point now, Luna. These alicorns cannot rule. We do not know them. They could be destructive." Celestia stated, raising her head. Her mane flowed majestically. Her eyes were now narrowed with determination. Whatever the cost, the alicorn foals must not rule. "For the good of Equistria, I will do this."
