Luna's Apprentice

by Silent Wars of Minds

Luna's new apprentice has come. She is a smart mare willing to learn and possibly make friends. But her training may be more than just magic. It may be raising the stars. And destroying the sun.

Moon Light is no ordinary pony. Her wings are different. Part of them are metal. There is one other thing. Moon Light can control magic through her eyes.

When hearing about this strange pony, Luna knows she is the perfect apprentice and hires her. Not to teach her ordinary magic. To teach her dark magic. Magic that could overthrow the sun. And Celestia.

Will Moon Light follow Luna's orders? Only Moon Light can decide that, with the help of a friend, Lightning Dust.

The Letter

Moon Light watched as the small fillies bellow her cloud played. She remembered when she used to be like that. But that time was gone. It had been for a while. Sometimes Moon Light wished to be like the fillies. Small, careless, and worry free. Nobody would stare at her, or asked her what happened to her wing. Moon Light wouldn't have to tell them a lie. She lied to protect herself. To still be able to talk to other ponies. For the truth was too harsh. Too dark. She was watching the fillies when Derpy came along.
"Hi Moonie!" Derpy greeted in her normal ditzy voice. Moon Light looked at the gray pegasus.
"Hello Derpy," she replied, not interested in chatting with Derpy. She always asked about her wing.
"How's your wing? Is it getting better?" Moon Light shook her head. Her wing would never fix. The metal attachment would stay there forever. It had always been like that. Instead of having a normal feather wing at the front end, it had been replaced by a metal attachment.
"Do you ever take it off?" Derpy continued, ignoring Moon Light's scowl.
"No. Please leave." Derpy didn't leave. She actually ignored Moon Light's statement.
"Does it hurt? How do you clean it? Why do you have it? How do you-" Derpy stopped. Moon Light had rose from her cloud and bolted off into the sky. Derpy could see a slight trail of Moon Light's purple tail. But she could not see the blue coat of the pegasus. Moon Light had left.

Beating her wings as fast as they could bear, Moon Light headed for the safety of the Evergreen Forest, where no pony would bother her. She hated answering questions about her wing. It just made her hurt inside. She finally stopped when her wings could take no more. Moon Light had not made it to the Evergreen Forest, but to the middle of the friendly town of Ponyville. Just where she least wanted to be.
"Not here," Moon Light muttered," Any place but here!" But her wings could take no more. She would have to walk. Moon Light landed on the ground. Ponies of all different colors flocked around her. None of them took very much notice of her, but she knew that wouldn't last long. Moon Light darted from her landing spot towards the Evergreen Forest. But she was too late.
"Moon Light! It's so nice to see you here! Care for some carrots?" It was Carrot Top. She was kind pony, but also sometimes a curious one.
"Hi Carrot Top. Sorry but I was just heading for my, um, house!" Moon Light did not want anyone knowing where she was trying to go. Carrot Top frowned.
"Your house is in the Evergreen forest?" Moon Light was stumped. She was either going to have to tell the truth or go to her house. If she told the truth, Carrot Top might insist on going with her. That was the last thing Moon Light wanted to happen. But her house on the other hand wasn't so bad. She did have some privacy, except for when her neighbors, Flitter and Cloudkicker came home. She decided to go with her house.
"Wrong way! Thanks for pointing that out," Moon Light quickly replied," Bye!" Before Carrot Top could answer, Moon Light was flying off again.

Moon Light's house was not large, but also not small. It was near the Apple Farm. Perhaps even above it. Her house had threee bedrooms and two bathrooms. One of the bedrooms was used as an office for Moon Light. Moon Light breezed onto the porch of her house. She sighed. Moon Light had finally found some peace and quiet. At least, she thought she did.
"Delivery to Moon Light! Looks pretty important." Derpy had arrived to deliver a letter. Not any ordinary one that she got from her parents. One that was dark blue with white writing.
"Thank you Derpy," Moon Light thanked, taking the letter. Derpy didn't leave.
"Who's it from? What's it say?" Moon Light gave Derpy a dirty look before going into her house, slamming the door shut. Inside, she read the letter. Dear Ms. Moon Light,
I have been searching for an apprentice. One that is different, like me. I congratulate you, for I have choosen you for your magic abilities. You will be brought to my palace in a week. Plan to pack items that will last a while. I cannot wait to see you in person and see your magic.
Princess Luna Moon Light reread it over and over again. How did Luna know about her powers?

The Arrival

It took some time for Moon Light to register what she had just read. At least, the other part about becoming Luna's apprentice. Was this like what Princess Twilight and Celestia were? Moon Light mostly hoped not, but part of her wanted to be like that. Although she didn't understand how Luna knew of her powers still. Was because Luna was a princess? Maybe somepony told her? No, the only ponies who knew where herself and her parents. And her parents had disappeared long ago. Moon Light guessed it was to hide themselves from evil. But a letter would be nice from them. Moon Light shook her head. She had a new task at hand. Moon Light needed to make a list of what to pack.
Moon Light trotted around the streets of Ponyville, looking for a place to buy a gift for Luna. It was polite to do this. Yet she hadd found nothing in the streets. Moon Light could go to Sugarcube Corner, but lots of ponies go there. Plus, Pinkie Pie workedd there all day usually. She sighed. "Where could a gift shop be?" Moon Light muttered to herself.
"I know where!" a pony cheered. Moon Light looked up to see Derpy again. Derpy was grinning back down, while upside down.
"There's one right on the edge of town! Near the Everfree Forest!" Derpy chirpped happily.
"Evergreen Forest," Moon Light corrected sharply. She started to leave Derpy, but Derpy flew ahead of her.
"Who's the gift for? Somepony special? Do you have a coltfriend?" Moon,Light tried to ignore Derpy, but she continued to follow her.
"Come on Moon Light! Tell me! I'm your friend, I won't tell anypony else." Moon Light doubted Derpy would keep her mouth shut, but since she wasn't leaving, Moon Light was forced to tell her.
"It's for Princess Luna! It is not for no coltfriend! I don't even want one!" Moon Light could feel herself yelling. It didn't matter who heard now, because Derpy would tell everypony. Derpy's jaw was wide open.
"You're going to see Princess Luna? The Princess of the Night?" Derpy looked like she had just won a million bits. Her crossed eyes went huge. Moon Light blinked at her. Was she even conscious?
"Derpy?" Moon Light watched Derpy as she slowly started to flip around.
"You are so lucky! You get to go to Cantorlot and see Princess Luna! Nopony gets to see her! I have to tell everypony!" Moon Light's guess was correct.
"See ya later then." Moon Light returned to going to the shop.
Moon Light looked at the gifts. She especially liked the glass gifts. Moon Light decided to get one of the glass shapes. She looked at them. None of them really seemed like a good gift to Luna.
"May I help you?" the shopkeeper asked. Moon Light looked at him. She recognized him from the Winter Wrap Up.
"I'm looking for a glass object. One that is like the night." The shopkeeper looked at Moon Light's cutie mark. It was a moon and star crossed across each other. It was for her magic.
"I have one. It's like your cutie mark." He pointed to the end of the showcase. It was exactly like her cutie mark. The colors were blended nicely. "I'll take that one, Mr. Um...." Moon Light paused. She had forgotten his name. Moon Light was surprised by this.
"Cresent Moon," the shopkeeper finished. He gave the glass moon and star to Moon Light.
"Thank you." Moon Light paid him. She left, but not in a hurry. For she has a crush on him.
Moon Light finished bringing the suitcases to the front yard. The ride to Canterlot was to arrive in five minutes. She levitated the gift before wrapping it up in lots of bubble wrap. She fixed it into the front of the smallest suitcase. She could hear the guards coming. They landed in front of her, almost on top of Moon Light. One guard walked over to Moon Light.
"Hello Ms. Moon Light. I can take your bags for you." Moon Light shook her head.
"I got them." She levitated the bags onto the carrige. The guard looked slightly surprised, but attatched himself back on the carrige. They headed off for Cantorlot.
