Dear Diary,

I have selected my new name for this job: "Fleur De Lis."

The target's name is Fancy Pants. He's rich, he's well-known, and most importantly, he's single. This is going to be a breeze.

Wow... Just wow

Nice. A little on the predictable side of things, but overall an enjoyable story.

Type on August 8th entry.

As far as I can tell, the only pony to know exactly what s Fancy Pants himself

.
Just before "Fancy Pants", the "s" should be "is"

A stock situation, perhaps, but handled beautifully.

A bit predictable, but still a wonderful story.

Of course, we all knew what was coming. Without a sad tag, there really wasn't any other option. But knowing the ending doesn't change the enjoyment of the story itself, and I must say, I enjoyed this very much. You took an old story of redemption and gave it a new, beautiful twist. Liking, faving, and watching.

finally someone that gets it.

predictability shouldn't be used as the only basis of a good story. The goal might be clear but the journey has been done well and it should be appreciated. Not merely dismissed because you know the ending.

A story's quality isn't just about plot.

I liked it, no really... I was number 46. :fluttershbad: Just a few seconds sooner and it would have been 42. I was so out of it when I read this that it took almost 3/4ths of the story for me to realize that it wasn't Rarity, rather Fleur De Lis. When I realized who was actually telling the story, it was a bonus "surprise" which drew me in.

Have a :yay:.

I almost feel that this needs a romance tag on it.

Heartwarming story. Great work, author!

I am speechless. The story was executed brilliantly and eloquently. Well done.

We need more fics of these two.
This one should be the motivation to write more of them.

This was awesome. I do so wish we could have seen the reencounter between Fancypants and Fleur

P.S. MOAR FLEUR AND FANCY :flutterrage:

P.P.S. maybe you could do Diary of a Fancy Pony you know fancy pants perspective on events

- lawl, she was like "pfft Rarity is f---ing broke"
- this needs a Tragedy tag....because her pimp game died :fluttercry:

My heart! It burst! :pinkiesick::heart::fluttercry:

So beautiful!

I think that I've told everything I want to about the time period this story took place in. I don't think I'm gonna look at it through Fancy's perspective.

That being said, I haven't closed the doors on a possible sequel...

Just wondering. Why isn't there a romance tag? I felt the story was pretty romantic. Sorry if I sound a bit irritating. It was a great story.

Excuse me as I lay down and cry a lot from how beautiful this was.:fluttercry:

I have exactly one complaint, and it's in how she signed her name at the end of the final letter. She might be turning over a new leaf, and taking up the previous name, but by using the name she'll be going by from now on, he can just hand that to the authorities and she'll be arrested in a heartbeat. Given what she's done for "work" until that point, she's probably extremely aware of this, and has no reason to do it.

Again, though, that's the one complaint I can muster. Great story, enjoyed it all the way through, and you really had me fooled for a second at the end. Great stuff.

My thoughts exactly. Signing as Fleur might be a powerful symbolic gesture, but it's a dumb logical descision.

Then again, what crimes has Fleur committed? She didn't steal anything in Las Pegasus, and aside from that bangle she didn't steal anything in Canterlot.

"OBJECTION!"
Since she signed three times, with (probably) three fake names and changed three times of mane color, it is a rather brillant move to confuse any possible pursuit.
Plus she shares her secret with Fancy now, who won't hesitate to lie to protect her against any who would dare to accuse her of anything.

[And who knows, possible start for a sequel? Nah, I'm exaggerating...]

I don't know what to say. This is a great story, but... I'm having trouble thinking of something useful to tell you about why it's great, rather than just "OMG everything". xD I can certainly say that I enjoyed the quick dismissal of Rarity as a potential target, and the deadpan phrasing, but I also know that I would have loved the story even without that moment- it's just something in particular that stood out all on its own. I'll probably have to read this again before I can make a more useful comment. Which is fine with me.

great job on the warm and fuzzies:twilightsmile:

Should be "The Diary of an Evil Pony". That is all.

*SPOILERS*

If I could only like a story a thousand times...

I don't know what else to say, really. If the ending is really that predictable, then it's for a specific purpose: we get to see a character who only knows how to cheat and con based on her harsh views of the upper class, then she progressively and logically evolves in such a way that you could divide her latter part as a separate character. Finally, she relates to Fancy; they both did something wrong, but the difference is he learned from his mistakes, then Fleur is suddenly terrified of herself. In other words...character development! You did it right, sir. VERY right, and I wouldn't have wanted any other ending than one with reconciliation.

Read Later! :raritywink:

Wow. I don't know what to say, other than that this was a great read, and your characterization of Fleur was perfect. I loved seeing how she developed through the story.

I really enjoy these kinds of stories. Romance can easily be very cheesy, but you put in such good reasons for its progression, particularly for a pony who wanted anything but. Seeing a character that is actively cynical toward romance eventually develop romantic feelings, practically kicking and screaming the whole way, can be very entertaining. Character growth and development is good.

And for some reason, I always like to see a story that portrays Fancy Pants as such a good guy. He might be rich and influential, hanging out with all the snobby high-society types, but he really is a good pony. There's something I just like about that, and your story makes Fleur every bit as interesting as he is.

Stories like this are really encouraging me to add a "my favorite stories" section to my own page. It deserves more than just the single "like" vote that I can give it.

Excellently done, sir! You have made an instant classic.

This is a story I would love to see a sequel to. :twilightsheepish:

That was a most excellent story, sir. It was worth the hype.

Check your dates. I highly doubt this story spanned 300 years... :ajbemused:
Otherwise, good story :pinkiehappy:

Really enjoyed this story.

The site really needs more good Fancy/Fleur stories and you delivered here. The idea of a sequel sounds interesting, and I can't wait to see that.

Awww I really loved this story!~

Y'know, this'd make a tremendous movie. Only one thing: they met Rarity *before* Discord's release?

Awesome Movie Idea!! :pinkiehappy:

Brilliant! This deserves more views...

As other commenters have said, yes, predictable, but that doesn't take away from this story. No, sir, it does not.
Fantastic!

Just when I think the fandom can't write slice of life one-shots any more, this comes along.

I was not prepared. Some of the finest work I've seen in fanfiction.

Way to be featured on EQD!!!!!:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::moustache:

Gotta love it when EQD features a great fic like this, so much in the fandom that I can't dig up on my own, glad this gem got UN-earthed for me.

Yes.I love it.most.SEQUEL!!!!

I love the story. I haven't read a one-shot I've liked this much in several months. There aren't enough great fics with Fleur and Fancy Pants.

The only things I can complain about were: Fleur initializing her chosen name at the bottom, despite just confessing her intentions, and the immense number of Freudian slips throughout the story. It just doesn't seem realistic to have that many (similar to a problem Simply Rarity had).

But whatever, they're small issues at worst. Brilliant work, sir.

A wonderful and touching story. You made me like a character I really disliked. :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:
