15k words for a gay shipping of two background ponies? Now that's effort. :D Great story, too!

SQQQQQQQQUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ending.

LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE   AMAZING YAYNESS

:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy: faved yay

I LOVE this story! I thought these were OCs to start with. Then when Pokey met Ace in the park I thought, "Wait a minute, he's that pony!" I can't remember which episode he's in, but I clearly remember him. Roseluck's a background pony too, right? I can't remember if any of the others are. I'm currently re-watching all the episodes and trying to pay more attention to the background ponies. My first time through I didn't even notice Lyra or Bon-Bon! How terrible of me! This story's definitely going in my favorites!

Ace and Pokey both appear in Call of the Cutie. Rose appeared along with Lily & Daisy in Bridle Gossip aaand I think Swarm of the Century.

Yup. All of the characters are background ponies - Brolly was a white pegasus with a blue mane and umbrella cutie mark from Sonic Rainboom, and Medley is an aqua pegasus who's appeared a few times.

A wonderful story with endearing characters. I loved the interactions between Brolly and Pokey. Reminded me of my own friends quite a bit.
That said, the title of this fic makes me smile.

I feel kinda lame admitting this, but I had to wipe my eyes at least once reading this. But I'm gay, and this really spoke to me. I know exactly how that feels. :ajsleepy: Its pretty difficult, but once you get past that first time. :twilightblush:

Very Very beautiful fic.
I am sure every gay guy has been in this situation 1st coming out how will your friends/family react and finally accepting yourself for what/who you are.

Soo recommending this to other people and you do not even need to be gay to enjoy this but hopefully it gives people and idea what it is actually like to come out.

Shit. Double post

Who cares? MORE LIKINGNESS FOR THE WONDERFUL STORY! :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

The ending made me happy. =3

Can we has more, please?

Also I love the title. :D

Absolutely loved this. Also, that reference to Oscar Wilde is one of the funniest puns I have ever seen :rainbowlaugh:

Such a good story. Probably the best m/m shipfic I've read, although it sadly doesn't have much competition.

Pokey is room mates with Broly?

:P

On a more serious note, excellent story of admirable length

:fluttercry:
MFW^

I fuckin loved it, made me wish I got a boyfriend instead of joining the army.

Well this is impressive. It was a bit of a tentative step to reading a coltcuddler fic but I liked the story and was interested in reading a spin on Pokey Pierce. 5/5, I should register soon for FIM

yay! It is always hard getting a new look at life. Here's to luck and the start of something brilliant.:rainbowwild:

Such a sweet story. Loved it.

If you don't mind asking, what's the meaning behind the title?

66443

I don't mind at all! In fact, a lot of people have asked me that... the thought is that Pokey is in the closet and hence, is among clothes hangers.

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

“Go Wilde.” :ajbemused:
God damn you, Kegisak.

That said, great story. not how I would have pictured the characters, but it's a charming story nonetheless. Solid characterization, interesting plot development, great progression. Some formatting errors, though, which is to be expected of anything cut and pasted to FimFic.

Overall a 43/50. Nicely done.

Beautiful. Wonderful. Awesome. One of the few ponyfics I've ever read that legitimately moves me. We need more stories like this.

Absolutely brilliant. I have to admit, I was apprehensive about reading a male/male shipping fic at first, but I'm glad I did, I said this to my friend who convinced me to read it three times whilst doing so: Now this is how you write closet homosexuality. The characters were enjoyable and the ending brilliant. I loved the interactions between Pokey and Brolly the most, a great emulation of how actual people act in those living conditions.
All my  to this story.

:twilightsheepish:
I say old chap, jolly good show indeed.

haha i remember reading this on eqdaily, fantastic story. Reminds me of the trouble i had to go through (with myself) when i came out of the closet

(((Obligatory))) Three cheers for bisexuality! / Welcome to the bisexual master race Pokey-- have a muffin!

I adored this story. Thanks for writing it.

Some constructive criticism, I guess:
It bothers me to see ponies refer to each other as "man", "girl", etc. Same thing with the use of the word "homophobe". And that they're watching television too... I don't know. I just think the story should be less "human-y" if that makes any sense.

The little "are you a racist" conversation threw me in for a loop. I don't think it adds anything to the story.

It also bugs me to see indents being used so haphazardly. Either indent every new paragraph or don't ever do it.

I think in the beginning when Brolly says “Hey, at least it means I’ll be up again by the time your drunk flank finally rolls in, huh? I’ll be able to help you find your bed. Now go on, get out there and find yourself a nice colt.” you meant "nice mare" (at that point in the story)

Those are just some particulars that stuck out at me. Otherwise, it really is a great story.

147150

Fair points, for the most part. The 'are you racist' thing was them joking around, as was Brolly telling Pokey to find himself a nice colt - Brolly was poking fun at Pokey's sexuality long before he actually knew Pokey was gay (Which I should mention, he is out-an-out gay, not bisexual. there was a reason all those other relationships flopped).

The indenting thing is an issue, but not a matter of choice. I simply mucked up while working on google docs, and have been too lazy to fix them after the copy over.

But thanks for reading it, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

147169 I don't want to nitpick, but seriously the human-ish nature of a lot of their conversations and behavior ("man", "homophone", "tv", etc.) did kind of put me off. You see what I'm saying?

>he is out-an-out gay, not bisexual. there was a reason all those other relationships flopped
Awww... as a down-the-center bisexual that makes me a little sad. Oh, well.

You know what... I just realized that my won fanfic has ponies playing guitars, bass, piano, and drums. So screw what I said. I'm a bad hypocrite. :P

Did I mention that I like this one a lot? I'll say it again.

147252

No, I see where you're coming from. It's always been a bit of a bad habit of mine as a fanfic writer that I tend to drift away from the source material a bit... if you think this is bad, you should look at The Colour You Bleed. By halfway through the resemblance to MLP is only passing. Considering there actually are instruments in the setting, the comparison is rather paltry.

The bisexual issue is a bit of a tricky one. Of course it's mostly that it's simply who Pokey was (I'm a firm believer in letting a character evolve naturally), but it's also an issue of observation. A reader is naturally going to assume that a character who's with a man is gay, so it's easier to just make them gay and not have to take the time to explain otherwise, which feels clunky and expository.

Well, I was told multiple times to read this as it (apparently) had a striking resemblance to my own fanfiction, Social Standards.
I started off very skeptical. I can see there's a few things that they have in common. (Mostly, the idea of a character being in self-denial about his sexuality, particularly a male one.)
I was a bit scared to read this because I was worried they would be very much alike, and perhaps I wouldn't feel like writing mine any longer. I actually really want to continue writing now. :ajsmug: This was a very nice read, and I think it may enhance my own story quite a bit.
Thank you for this wonderful piece! :pinkiehappy:

154666

Well, I'm glad to hear I didn't turn you off writing! I've actually been reading Social Standards lately, and I'd have been very disappointed if you'd decided to stop, especially if it had been my fault!

Anyways, I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it! It's always great to know people like what I write, but other skilled writers like yourself even more so.

154876
I ran back to check the comments on this when BillyColt told me you were a fan of Social Standards. :rainbowderp:

Thank you so much. Us M/M writers have to stick together, I suppose.
Thank you for the compliments and comments and ratings as well. ^-^;

This almost makes me want to try an m/m paring... all three of my stories so far have had m/f only elements.

The problem that I'm a very sappy-ish sort of person in my writing in the sense of 'The alicorn, like a moth to a flame, instinctively nudged her body forward as well. They became so closer-- closer than they had ever been. He could seriously feel this kind of electricity from her very body. Then, in a single second that felt like a lifetime... She leaned her head on his side.' etc.

And that style of writing is so very different than m/m writing, which is usually against the Disney-ish / puppy dogs view of love. :duck:

What do you guys think? I love your work.

P.S. You can see my internal thinking and why I'm a sensitive about the issue of the bi/gay distinction. It bothers me when a guy with a sincere crush on, say, a female co-worker who marries someone else... then he later gets a boyfriend-- and then everyone labels him 'gay' as if his previous love had less worth since it was unrequited. :trixieshiftright:

155353

I'm actually inclined to disagree with that. I think that m/m shipping can be fully capable of having a disney-love sort of feeling. Yes, granted, I took a more serious route to it with in Clothes Hangers, but that doesn't exclude it from some simple, happy loving. There is, after, nothing truly defining it from any other sort of love.

And I see where you're coming from with the bisexual issue. It irks me quite a bit too, being bisexual myself. I think it's certainly a theme worth exploring, as well, though Its not on my plate at the moment, as that is full with other concerns. If you are interested in taking a crack at m/m, I'd wholly recommend giving it a shot. Shipping is one of my favourite kinds of fiction to write, simply because the emotions are almost always so positive, and even when they're not they're a wonderful melancholy, and because it's deeply character driven.

So yeah, I say go for it, basically. m/m shipping is a rare and wonderful thing in this fandom, and the more good stuff we have, the more people we can win over. My reception to EqD was... rocky, to say the least, and I'd love to see that changed.

155494

Thanks for your response. Yeah, I'll seriously think about having m/m stuff come up in the future. It'll probably be a lot of fun. :ajsmug: (Maybe in this one story that's rather embryonic right now...)

Not to monopolize the conversation, but I'd love it if you'd read the story I'm most focused on now-- 'Nightmare Date'. It seems a bit parallel to this story of yours since it's about how fear and trust mix in with the idea of being really head over heels in love. I'd love to see what you think of it.

155528

I would be more than happy to look at it, when I can find the time. It doesn't look terribly long at the moment, at least.

Now this was an absolutely delicious read. I applaud your writing for drawing me in with it's lovely imagery and accurate portrayl of how life usually is.

Kudos sir, you have earned my stars.

What do you think you're doing making ponies so realistic? Don't you realise what you've done? Now I have to draw fanart for this, you sick fuck.

185179

Goodness! I have done a horrible thing, haven't I?

You'll have to show me that fanart when it's done. To punish me with it, of course.

If I ever find another title so clever and all encompassing for a story, I'll be quite stunned. Which is hardly the reason I enjoyed reading this so much. Simply superb.

185381
You deserve this punishment in every single way. I hope you learn your lesson!

That was fabulous. I love every part of this story, and you should feel fabulous for writing it.

I think this is the pinnacle of m/m fanfiction at the moment. All the way at the top, the one everyone looks up to. Bravo.

All my life I've had nothing but gay friends. I can't believe it took me this long to figure that out. I think I owe some apologies to a lot of friends that eventually drifted away from me (my fault). I loath being with guys who brag about all the girls they are screwing at the same time, fucking cheating dicks, they make me sick. I thought I could be happy just being an uncle to my only niece and nephew but my older sister won't let me visit them, but wont tell me why. My younger sister ,whom I love more than anyone else in the world is a BIGOTED, RAGING, ANTI HOMOSEXUAL HATER. I've had 4 beautiful wonderful successful women who I loved break it off with me, saying there was no connection, all my sisters and mother loved them, I just never could go the extra step to be in love with them. (I lived with a woman with her two kids for ten years and called her my wife I was just her friend.) But I loved all my girlfriends! shouldn't that be enough? I never treated them badly! I'm still a virgin. Oh god plz don't let pokey be gay. I'm so miserable, I'd be crying but I just feel sick instead. I hate my RL life! My three sisters husbands all hate homosexuals. I have assured each I am not gay. They are really good husbands to my sisters. my sisters don't know i'm a brony. I am not gay. I can't be.

185381>>168349>>154981>>91809>>62153>>7103 See my above comment. Read it first. This is what RL is like. Why do people have to hate gays so much? It's just sick. One of my bosses keeps a loaded 9mm(45 cal.) under his seat, he said he hates gays because one married his sister, he took out his pistol and holding it, he said next time he sees him he'll be ready, he asked me if i was gay I said "no". If you are wondering why so many guys are saying they hate m/m shipping in public this may be why, all males are terrified to be identified as gay. Send me a note if any of you get this plz id hate to think this rant didn't reach any of you.

I spoke to Kegisak and I'm felling better now. I'm leaving this up, but I think I'm ok now, I'm going to give my male family members a call soon,
not my inlaws though.

Brilliant! A touching journey of discovery involving a couple of well-loved background characters. They make such a cute couple.

Please write a sequel!
Would love to hear how their relationship works out :twilightblush:

I love this story so much, I find that this story actually helped me get over some repressed homophobia I had.

But I have to ask, what does the title mean?
