"Nightyyyyy!" Bellesmith shouted, howling as her forelimbs flung numbly through her slumber and clutched at her intact belly. "Nnnng—Nightyyyy, help meeeee!"
Kera panted... hyperventilated. She tried shaking Belle... yanking vigorously at her shoulder and neck.
"Belle! Belle, wake up! She's... She's gotten to you! She's tricking you!"
"Nnngnh—guhhh—Aaaaghhh!" Belle's head tossed left and right, her voice shouting in an uncharacteristically low tone.
Kera gulped, her green eyes blinking. She flashed a look at the foals.
The twelve little ponies trembled in their seats, streams of tears quietly trickling down their sleeping faces.
Biting her lip, Kera flashed a look up. See spotted several of the wires running up into the ceiling above.
With a determined breath, she turned towards Belle. "I'll be right back! Don't you crap out on me!" Scampering, she dashed towards the stairwell leading up to the flame room. In so doing, she paused only once... and that was to cast a forlorn glance at the door to the adjacent control room...

I'm guessing that last sentence was a set-up for the next chapter being about Phoenix. I only hope that whatever he plans to do will stall the guards long enough for Belle to get her hooves under her and hopefully beat "Nighty" (gigglesnort) at her own game.

Dang, the war seems intense. I can't wait until RD, Belle, Roarke, Kera, Crimson, EE, etc. all head to Xona. Also, Go Kera.

Nightshade must have been messed up before she sequenced with Novus. That memory must have really done a number on her, though, now that she's so quickly willing to subject another pony to that kind of horror. I was holding out hope that she may offer some small amount of assistance to Belle, but now I think the only help she can give will be dug out of the wreckage if/when she is destroyed.
Meanwhile, Kera goes on her own crusade. Ponies gotta stop being so self-sacrificing, or there's not gonna be any ponies left to sacrifice.
Whoooo boy, this is hardcore. Also, what happens if somepony besides the spark touches the flame? And if it's a fake flame? And it's not even anywhere near the machine world? Because it's either that, or she's unplugging the wires, but that's nowhere near as fun.
I'm guessing Kera is going to try to sequence.

They're in different buildings. Belle is in the headquarters building, while Pilate is in the industrial complex nearby.

Well....same city. Its amusing how they're so close, yet one thinks the other is dead.
After several months of reading, I've finally caught up.
I consider Austraeoh (the original story) a masterpiece from beginning to end. If it ended right there, it would be beautiful (although frustrating). Anyway, the sequels have elements I don't like as much (the Searo arc, and other multi-chapter action sequences have slowed the plot down IMHO). But they're still awesome, with great new characters. And the Innavedr chapters with Belle, Phoenix and Kera have been wonderful.
2732711 Out of all the evil characters we've met thus far, I find her the most likeable. The woman makes sense, from start to finish. Her mad, boundless fanatism was the only thing about her that didn't seem quite right until now - until now. With that memory alone I call her actions completely reasoned. Mad, evil, misguided and reasoned.

Yeah, go Kera! Nightshade clearly has some sort of a mental break going on, if she's willing to subject someone else to what her brother went through (even if only on a mental level).

Again, clever writing on Imploding's part. Nightshade sequenced with Novus to learn the pain he went through in the war. She then inflicted that pain on Belle, causing her to cry out for her/his sister. I'm impressed that I figured that out. Anyways, it looks like Kera's going to try to get Belle out of there. I hope she hurries up...These are my thoughts so far.

God, she has so much . . . well, so has so much true justification for ending the war at all costs, yet . . . I can't agree with her at all. I can sympathize with her plight very, very well, but I can't morally agree with her course of action.
Besides, inflicting that much psychological terror upon someone is beyond evil.
I don't find her actions evil... understanding is imperative to empathy.
Quick Kera, do the thing.
I can very much see Nightshade's aims. The war against the Xonans should end, but Nightshade's methods aren't worth it.
