Ten years prior to Friendship is Magic, the Doctor and Derpy arrive in Tartaurus to find murdered minotaurs and nightmarish creatures threatening to spill over into Equestria. Aided by Lieutenant Shining Armor, High Commisioner Plus-Four (who knows more about the Doctor than he is willing to say), and a pair of native Tartaurusians, the time-travelling duo discover secrets that have been kept from ponies for a thousand years and a villain who is even older than that.

This story is written in tribute to the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, in the style of the classic Doctor Who series. It contains many references to things that piqued my interest in MLP: FiM, and attempts to put a bit of backstory on many elements of the show. I hope this story entertains you.

This sounded like what an american's idea of what British people sound like to me. Basically a little too British. But that's all I really had a problem with in this story. Well that, and the vampires. Vampires are way over used. I was hoping for something more original. Maybe a space cat... or a telephone... A SPACE TELEPHONE!

Anyway good show, I'll be reading on forward now so have a good day.

I can understand that. I'm Canadian, actually, but all my family are British (Lake District, mostly), so I used their speech patterns as a model. I may have overdone it. :derpytongue2:

The vampire reference was meant to be a callback to 'State of Decay', and was more to reinforce the similarity between Tartaurus and E-space. [For anyone who knows the classic series, I'm talking about season 18.] And of course, nothing is really as it first appears.

2614296 Sadly that reference was lost on me. I tried to get into the classics but found the crappy effects and slow pace to much of a set back to watch it. Not to mention the costumes. God the costumes!

Also, are you implying the vampires will turn out to be space telephones?

Heh. Yeah, I grew up on the classic series. That might be another reason why you're finding the phrasing I'm using odd, now that I think on it, as I'm likely being influenced by that late 60's/early 70's BBC dialect that never actually existed outside of TV. I occasionally fall into that when I talk myself, due to the number of BBC shows I watched way back when.

Part 3 is where you find out what the creatures are in more detail. I won't spoil it.

But a villainous space telephone... actually appeared in the classic series, eighth season. Terror of the Autons. Just a brief appearance, true, but it did try to kill the Doctor by strangling him with an extra-long cable. Of course, that story also had a murderous inflatable garbage bag, and lethal tulips. I'm not sure I'm willing to callback to that one. :pinkiecrazy: Yet.

2616059 You're kidding right? A space telephone? A SPACE TELEPHONE? They really did that? :rainbowhuh:

I am incredibly excited for this to continue. It's so nice to see a Doctor Whooves story actually written in the style of an episode (and written so well!) The addition of Iron Will is a wonderful bonus I almost can't believe! I was grinning the whole way through.

NO WHY WHY DID YOU NOT TELL US WHAT WAS IN THE LETTER?!?!?!?:flutterrage::raritycry::fluttershysad:

To be honest, I debated pretty hard on including that bit or not. It's part of an idea I had a long time ago, before MLP:FiM existed. But the fanon around Derpy being a mailmare just made it irresistible. I'm not sure I have the skill to pull it off without it devolving into a meaningless mess, but we'll see. I hope.

3279756 but but the letter it's killing me not knowing *mutters under breath* stupid natural curiosity

With the season 4 finale.....this feels all the more canon. EXCELLENT! !

5289040 Ahhh! I didn't expect anyone to ever find this again. :)

I really should come back to this and do another 'serial'. I've got several started, but they all went... meh on me.

What up with the letter? Awesome story!

Thanks!

The letter is part of what was supposed to be the 'season arc', like what the modern DW series does modified to suit my style. Each story is supposed to have something that hints at, and reveals a bit more, of what the whole letter arc is about, leading to the 'season finale' story where all is revealed and hopefully it makes sense. I really *do* need to get back to this, so I can get that arc moving.
