After being apart for five years, Vinyl finds out that Octavia got married. Knowing there is no way she can have back what they once had, Vinyl feels alone. She won't let anybody in. She won't let anybody help. She just wants to forget her biggest mistake: letting Octavia go.

pretty powerful stuff. I kept looking back at the Autograph story to compare if you're the original author or not, your story is written very well. I often don't fav stories that don't have some kind of conclusion. I don't mean happy ending and all, just some end to it that says, "I'm done. nothing more to see here."
There's several questions running through my mind, and I'm sure you've entertained them all: is Vinyl alive or not? what happened between Octavia and the mare she married? could we expect a chapter from Octavia's point of view since she walked away from Vinyl? and yet there's one thought screaming through my mind the most. will you please, please avoid writting a followup to this story! okay, not a question.
I think this story can rest on it's own merits without further embellishment. but that's what you planned, isn't it? let us draw our own conclusions on what may happen next, and what already happened between Autograph and this?

The first two questions I left open to draw your own conclusions. Personally, I drew that Vinyl died and am unsure on the second one. Maybe split cuz Octy caught Surprise cheating or they just argued a lot. I don't really know what you mean by the third one. Care to elaborate? And no, no alternate ending, no follow-up. And yes, that is what I planned. You my friend, are conclusive.

I was wondering if you were gonna write something with Octavia as the main pony, her side of things since the breakup. This one was about what Vinyl put herself through, same with Autograph. did you consider trying to write from the point of Octavia and what her thoughts and actions were?

No I am not going to do an Octavia version. And no it didn't cross my mind to do it from her POV. The original conversation, which can be found here, was really just Vinyl drinking herself to death out of sorrow. I could see how it would be able to be done from her view, now that I think on it. It would have to be a fair amount longer than this, maybe around 10,000 or multiple chapters. Or two stories, the break-up to the wedding and the wedding to Vinyl dying... You, my friend, are a dick.
Now you have me thinking on it. But I guess that is what this is meant to do, you just draw it up how you think. Take the base you are given and build your own castle. One of my favorite things about writing in limited.
So I didn't, and don't (maybe), have plans for an Octavian viewpoint.

But this is not a Tragedy, 'tis a Sad. Sad is sad for most of the fic and can have a happy or sad ending. Tragedy is when things seem to be going good then they fuck. Legend of Huma by Richard A. Knaak is a great example of this. Or Romeo and Juliet (for a more well known example). Go to the FAQ, it explains it better than I can.
But you done got me thinking. But those kind of things are things I wanted left unknown. People get to fill in their own details and not as many can hate me for having one way or another.

Thanks a lot. I felt that to put what she would have been thinking would have been the same thing she had been thinking for most of the visit: why didn't I do this sooner? She would be saddened by the thought that she was the one who caused this and had she tried to fix things sooner, it wouldn't have happened.

One thing that kinda bothers me though.... Why did Octavia come back like this? If she never wanted this to happen then why did she get married? (I know whis should have been answered in Autumns story^^) Speaking of which.... what happened to her marriage? It sounded like she wanted to try and get back together with Vinyl so.... did she have a divorce or something?
Also, Vinyl must have the worst timing in the worl.... turning on her radio JUST as the play a piece from Octavia. I'm suprised she didnt throw the thing against the wall when that happened.

And that simple question has a simple answer: the fuck if know. Her reasons were her own, not the narrators. Maybe she got into an argument with Suprise (that is who she married, right?) and it reminded her of her argument with Vinyl and she realized she needed closure. Maybe her relationship when to shit and she was gonna try and get back with Vinyl. Maybe she just got married to relieve the pain of leaving Vinyl and she finally realized this and tried to fix things. Maybe she missed her friend. Maybe she forgot about it (as time makes you do) and she heard Vinyl wasn't doing good and (realizing it me be her fault) she decided to drop in.
I can keep going, too. There are an endless amount of possibilities. As Stephen King wrote in a response to a fan wanting to know how The Dark Tower ended before she died soon (before he finished the series obviously): I wouldn't know until I write it (true story).
And she would have probably thought Vinyl was over it and wouldn't do that. Or maybe she didn't care (no. Not that one).
And that is luck. I remember back in '11 when 5FDP realeased War is the Answer, Q106 overplayed their cover of Bad Company. Heard it at least 7 times a day. Her song was popular so they played it often.

This was very nice, beautiful in fact. I fear that Vinyl drank herself to death in that heart-wrenching ending. I would love to see this piece of work continued in a sequel.
