Even though there wasn't much description on the setting, I began to catch on pretty quickly.

I believe it was hinted that this story takes place in the same timeline (though perhaps an alternate version) as a Mr. Cynewulf's Songverse?

But no, not really. It has parallels but it's mostly seperate. Kind of how
Wulf's got D'Jalin in both the Songverse and in Where Mad Gods Dance. But Mad Gods is technically not in canon with Songverse.
