Sorry to hear that, but this isn't for everyone. That is the only reference to anythig Lovecraftian, and it failed. There were three reason I needed something like that though.
1) The use of something so dark was to break peoples misconceptions that because this is pony it was going to nice and sweet. It's not. Some parts may be dark. It's about how two very different species would react to eachother.
2) The 'void' would need a tremendous amount of power to create, so massive that the other side's catalyst was an Alcubierre drive (warp drive), and I couldn't think of anything bigger.
3) The use of stones as foci for magic is used later on and I needed to set that up as early as possible.

Honestly, I hate how most stories show either humans or ponies as either pure good or pure evil. Both people and ponies fall along that equilibrium (blame Doctor Who and Star Trek but I think humans can be great and noble creatures).
Love the thought process you are going through, feel free to comment to your hearts content. And even if it were a dead language it would have involved in a different way, language evolves into what is needed and changes based upon the society.

Sonar and other sonic instruments are regularly used for 3D mapping, among other things, and they are efficient enough to detect a metal marble from several miles away

Sonar isn't as efficient as other detection methods, disregarding that it is usually employed in water. They would have to know the ambient room temperature, along with how the air is moving and air density. Sonar only works line of sight, so it still wouldn't help to identify Celestia as she was hiding behind Twilight. Equestrians most likely don't even know that sonar exists so they wouldn't know to plan for it. You'd also have to know how the sound waves move through a magical aura and hope there is no noise generators or anything else that messes with sound waves.
Besides, there are several very efficient methods of detection like infrared, and it all depends on what kind of effect the spell has on the air.

Technically they would be aliens since they don't originate from Earth. As for extra-dimensional, they would most likely be from another planet or universe. They would have to come from a similar 3+1 dimensional space (like we are from).

I don't. A language is the way a society expresses itself, a symbol of what they are as a species. Languages don't waste words, every word is invented for a reason. Then there is honorifics, syntax, phonemes (which requires knowledge of vocal capabilities), how the language has evolved.

Truth. Especially when you realize that they may not even use the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) figuring how each language on Earth has a sound unique to itself. Or how sentence structure can vary so widely between them, or change from intonational to inflectional types of speech. And that's just going off of spoken language, there are other ways to pass along ideas including body gestures and odors.

2003053 Honestly, that's really not fair. I mean I've only just read the chapter and while evidence points to Cthulhu, I highly doubt that's the case. I mean the human tag, along with the fact that if Cthulu was actually summoned Equestria wouldn't last for more than a few more chapters, AND the fact that many strange things were going on such as the cracks in the gem lead me to believe that the spell will change and summon a human instead.
