DamnToasty

If you can't laugh at anything, the world turns into a very dull place. Dead turtles, for instance...hilarious.

Lieutenant Rodger T. Laurence, a pilot in the United States Navy, had just taken off from the USS Wasp on a routine recon mission. Mid-flight, Rodger experienced an event that he could never have imagined. Miraculously, the stunned pilot finds himself in foreign skies with no way of contacting home, and is greeted by an unexpected inhabitant of this strange new land.

This should be interesting. So far so good, only noticed one grammar error.

Air Force...aircraft carrier.... :rainbowhuh:

1928510 Dude the Air Force has been working with the Navy almost as long as it has existed. Air Force planes commonly take off of aircraft carriers.

I like it...alot! Hope to se an update soon!

1928542 I don't want to call you wrong so severely, but I'd really like to see where you're getting your information.

Aside from that, it's a decent story. I see you've been a member less than a month so it looks like you've already got things figured out.

1928608 Sorry did not want to come off as being defensive just saying that there are naval air forces. Also thanks for your opinion of the story.

they are called Naval Aviators, and they work solely for the navy with no affiliation with any other branch, they are navy :P little tidbit i thought you might like, and i know this because my bro is one of em. her flies F-35's, and they can reach Mach 2.5 in after burner. also some info you might like *hint hint*

so now i must wait for the next chapter. hope its soon :)

I would like to see Rainbow Dash not keep up with the F-35 at MACH 1.85

It happens far too often in these types of stories.

Rainbow dash will have no idea what just hit her. LOL

eagle six

Colonel Sawyer, is that you?

we built jets that could go twice the speed of sound right?

1930206
Mach 3.4 is the record i believe.

the beginning is interesting, faved and upvoted.

1930206 Actually the fastest a jet has ever traveled was almost mach 20

1931074 Technically, the X-15 is a rocket-plane, not a jet. Sorry, just being a stickler...
The fasted avowed 'jet' is the SR-71 Blackbird. Its official top speed is "Mach 3+". Yes, even after being retired, they still will not release its top speed!

Edit After Reading: All in all, a solid piece of work. There were a few minor spelling errors/ format hiccups, but nothing that detracted from the story IMO. You do state a few facts that I do question therein... For instance, you make no mention to the carrier's catapult, while at the same time you state that the flight-deck is 'paved' with asphalt. Now, I'll admit I know next to nothing about naval aviation, but that just doesn't seem right to me. Also, your stated range of 20 minutes of radio range seems bogus. Again, I do not know (Navy) military specs for such things, but that just seems wrong... A quick bit of fact checking does seem to be in order. Beyond that, You have me hooked. Keep it up!

I will be watching you.
Can't wait for the other chapters

1931570 Yea I tried to be as accurate as possible, but I really was not able to find any info on the takeoff methods for a jet on a carrier. I did the best I could.

1931570 Also I fixed some of those areas you mentioned.

NASA’s X-43A unmanned aircraft hit Mach 9.6 (nearly 10 times the speed of sound) on November 16, 2004 at an altitude of 33,223 meters over the Pacific Ocean.

To the two people who down voted this: fuck you. This is fucking awesome
On a side note, please don't have rd be faster than the plane, which I think can go around Mach 1.85

1928510

Also, that is an F-16 on the cover art. Now I'm VERY confused. :raritydespair:

Silver out!

1933715 It was the best I could do the F-35 was too difficult.

1933771

It's not that big of a deal but try to pick up on little things like that in the future. Continue writing!

Silver out!

So, how's he gonna land his F-35C? Only the F-35B can VTOL. Also, how's he gonna get fuel?

1934860 I never said it was an F-35C. Also the fuel will be covered later.

All military pilots are trained to be calm no matter the situation. in order for the pilot to not to make rash decisions during flight

1935385 Dude, I know a ton about F-35's, and ONLY an F-35C can take off from a carrier. The F-35B is a VTOL, and the F-35A is like a regular fighter that takes off and lands on long runways. To make this story close to real life as possible, make him take off in an F-35B on an airforce base on the cost of California, Oregon, Washington, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Georgia, Florida, you know what I mean. I'd say he take off from McGuire AFB in New Jersey; I've been there myself. Or maybe at MacDill AFB in Florida. He could fly out into the Gulf, or the Bermuda Triangle. Or Patrick AFB in Miami, Florida. Miami is one of the Bermuda Triangle's angles. Sorry about my rant.

1936449 Then why would the RAF and the Royal Navy plan to replace the Harrier IIs with F-35Bs if they where incapble of taking off from an Invincible or Queen Elizabeth class carrier.

1937667 I'm just saying what the US does, not GB.

Good story. The only parts that really bother me is: Air Force does not take off from aircraft carriers because their planes are not designed to. As far as I know, full names are never on uniforms. Air Force only uses the F-35A which is unable to take off of Carriers, please specify which version of the F-35 it is because only the B and C variants can succesfully take off and land from Carriers. Elevators are not on the wing, they are on the tail portion. On the wings are the are ailerons and flaps. I am sorry for the rant, but it is kind of my life. Other than that it is all good. Please do countine the story, I like it so far

1938740 I have tried to be as accurate as possible and i do realize my mistakes. I will be sure to research further next time.

1938770 It is all good. It is common mistakes. I just know it because I have to, it is my job

1938779 Are you in the armed forces. I only ask because you seem to be educated in this field.

1938785 USAF Maintainer in training, since you asked.

1938790 Awesome man. I am currently myself trying to keep my grades up so i have a chance in enrolling in the Air Force academy then gladly enlisting. Even if there is already a 10 year commitment due to the scholarship.

1938802 I am glad to hear that. Always love to see another join the force. And I do hope you get into the AF academy. I am guessing you are going Officer to become a pilot

1938834 Good luck and keep those grades high. And a bit of advice, if you are still in high school try to join you JROTC corp or Civil Air Patrol. It gives you that more of a chance from what I hear

1938846 Thanks. Nice talking to you.

Interesting fact, we have a UAV that can go Mach 20. My proof. It is not a jet in traditional terms, but it does have one of the fastest speeds ever recorded by an aircraft.

i wonder what he will do about fuel when the time comes, maybe it will run off liguid rainbow

1939889 Yea I read about that about two days ago.

1935385 Sorry about earlier. It turns out I was wrong, AND right. Here, let me explain:

My dad is in the Coast Guard (the only branch of the military that is apart of Homeland Security, and it's smaller than the taskforce of the NYPD), and I asked him about the F-35. Well, it turns out that only F-35C's can take off of carriers (keep in mind that carriers have launch catapults and landing cables). Now, here's the catch. There's a special type of ship that is called an amphibious assault ship. It looks like an aircraft carrier, but it's not. It's for helicopters, VTOL's, and STOL's.

Again, sorry for the confusion and argument. Also, you might want to change your story to accommodate the things I just said. Here's a list of amphibious assault ships. If you keep the story the way it is, than the stuff about the carrier in the beginning, will not be realistic.

This is why I want to be a pilot.:rainbowdetermined2:

Did you read my last comment that I just posted a day ago? It corrects some major issues in the story.

1947962 Hey man I fixed as many mistakes as I could without messing with the story I have planned. Hope that I have made it more accurate.

1960316 I'll read it, now, let me see...
