I'm a writer of fluff, kibitzer, and especially interested in canon AU: Equestria Girls, the comics, etc. They are fun to play with.

Alicorn Night is the last day of Hearth’s Warming; a time of friendship, family, and forgiveness. So why wasn’t the whole family invited to share it with the Seeds? Babs loves Hearth’s Warming, and she wants to know why. The answer is a sweet but sad chapter of family history she will never forget—but that perhaps she can re-write.

Good so far...gonna follow and see what chapter two brings.

1916767 It's been so long since I saw that show! My favorite was I Was a Teenage Werewolf with Michael Landon. I think there was some line about going out and milking some guy's car. Anyway, I am typing up the second chapter right now, so I'm not just hanging around the comments section and being a tease, I swear.

Awesome! I love Babs, so it's great to see her like this.

1916542 Thank you! I just looked on your page and see that you've written a LOT on Babs, so you'd have a pretty good idea of what works! Haven't caught up with all 26 chapters yet (PHEW), but I'm impressed. Hope you're enjoying this!

1924836

Thanks!:pinkiehappy: I definitely am enjoying it! I'll have to read the last chapter and let you know what I think! :ajsmug: I'm sure you pulled it off great:twilightsmile:

Well, this was a nice little fic. Always cute to see things through a child's eyes. Warmed my heart. Thank you very much, Scoots2. Well done. :pinkiehappy:

1970182 Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I'm hoping to add a bit more to the Babs-iverse later; not the same as yours, but hey, it keeps things interesting. To me, one of the things that's neat about Babs is that she's just as much of a kid, or an innocent, or not, as the other CMCs, but she lives in a less Sugar Bowl environment. It could be really awful or just slightly grittier, depending, but it's not the sheltered place they're in. I think it makes her fun. I worked a bit on something I'm not going to keep going on, but as I wrote it, Ponyville is strange to her: everypony talks weird, not normal, like you do, and stuff smells wrong, and the quiet is way too loud. Anyhoo, there must be more Babs of every kind, right?

1973939

Agreed. More Babs is needed. :pinkiehappy: But yes, she is an interesting character indeed...lots of possibilities for her.

This fandom needs more Babs Seed.

2063865 Egg-zackly. I just want to read more Babs.

That was a nice, engaging read. The setting you work with for Babs and her family (and the city in general) works very well. A lot of fics involving the "big cities" of the fanon - such as Vanhoofer, Fillydelphia and whatnot - tend to have a present-day approach to the environment, such as ponies having cellphones and similar modern tech. The whole late 1800's/early 1900's vibe I'm getting from your setting is interesting and rather compelling. Hope you'll make more stories in the same vein.

Also, nice little throwback with Cherry Blossom.

Also also, for some reason Babs' real name amused me to no end.

2211974 Thank you so much! I'm actually kind of proud of this one, and you picked up on so many of the reasons why. I figured Ponyville has a vaguely retro feel and it's run by unicorn magic, so why not Manehattan? I don't know when I'll get around to another one, but I did have another idea.

You're acing the idea of Babs' family pretty well, and I like the premise of this story so far. Let's keep trekking on!

This backstory is adorable! :rainbowkiss: I love it, and it's so sweet and classic and mixed in the modern-ness of Babs' life, it's a great contrast as to who her grandfather once was.

Now I've got a idea of Babs and Sweetie starring in a musical (preferably Marespray?) on Bridleway together when they're older and grown-up as coworkers. :rainbowlaugh:

Awww. :fluttershysad: This chapter was so bittersweet, I can't even describe how much my heart is trying to stay steady. A wonderful ending to a very beautiful story, like always.

4066372 Aw, thanks. Actually, this is a persistent problem of mine, and I'm never sure what to do with it. I was going through my stuff, and so much of it seems both sad and funny--sort of bittersweet. So how do you tag something like that? I HAVE considered bringing Sweetie Belle in for a kind of sequel with Babs, but remember: Poppy doesn't want her even setting hoof in a theatre. He's dead serious about that, and also about never using the word "lucky." Which makes it fair game for a fic, I suppose.
Very few people seem to have read this one. It doesn't have much of a plot, and most of the characters are OCs, so there's not to interest a reader. I'm always pleased when someone does, though.

4067096 I gotta admit, I am one of those people who often do avoid OC-centered stories (despite making one or two of my own), but seeing how you're a really good writer, I gave this a chance and I must say, I was far from disappointed.

Huh. This is certainly a fascinating take on Babs's talent, immediate family, and the history of both. (I always figured she had Pinkie Sense-level intuition for investment opportunities; in other words, she knows where to plant seed money. :raritywink:) It also sets up a wonderful conflict in the future as Poppy struggles between keeping his daughter from her destiny and risking her ending up like her grandfather. As much as I love your CheesePie work, I hope you explore this idea further in the future.

Leather is animalskin. You probably want the book to use another material.

¡The Oranges et al are flankhole!

This is a nice simple story. Some ponies do not like it because it is simple. One should remember the simple 3-word sad story:

Sale:
BabyShoes, Never-Worn.

4915322 Thank you! Yes; "baby shoes, never worn" does potentially tell a sad story.

I think "leather" is ok, simply because there's no other material that conveys the kind of stuff used for reins, saddles, and Braeburn's vest. I've got shoes made of vegan leather, whatever that is, not because I'm a vegan but because they're snappy-looking. But it is a point to consider.

4528026 I've definitely considered picking up this thread, but I'm so consumed with the EG story right now! Still, I do always have Babs and Babs' family at the back of my mind (although, per the comic books, she now comes from Hooflyn.) :pinkiehappy:

> “I think ‘leather’ is ok, simply because there’s no other material that conveys the kind of stuff used for reins, saddles, and Bræburn’s vest.”

Princess Lauren Faust states that all Cetartiodactyla and Perissodactyla are sentient sapient beings. This raises questions about the source of the leather.

4916791 Did you miss the bit about "vegan leather?" That stuff is still called "leather," although whatever it is made of contains no animal products whatsoever. Besides, I'm not going to write that a book is covered in "simulated leather-like substances."

4916816

I just figure that ponies would be weary about anything called “Leather”, especially if it is an import from a Gryphon-Dominated country because the Gryphons are omnivorous, while the only animal-products ponies eat are milk-products and eggs. Ponies probably would want a guarantee that the leather is plant-based. This reminds me about a story called the 800-Year Promise:

The 800-Year Promise

A stallion bought a blank book from a DiamondDog 800 years ago.He wrote in it. 800 years later, a mare who is his descendent possesses the filled book as a family-heirloom. She is curious about the book, so seeks out a dragon over one thousand years-old who might have some knowledge about the book. The dragon identifies the material as vellum made of unhatched drakes. This nearly leads to all out total war between dragons and ponies.

As a pony, I would not buy anything made by DiamondDogs unless I could positively identify the material.

Basically, as a pony, I would only my leather-like materials only if they would be made in Equestria and only from hoofed beings.

Post Scriptum:

While proofing this reply, I realized that I severely over thought this. Oh well.

Babs being from another branch of the family and not the Oranges makes sense. The Apples seem to be related to EVERY Earth pony family out there.
