There's a conspiracy surrounding Rainbow Dash, and she's sick of it. There's the pills and what they do to her body. There's the fact that when she ditched them, she started feeling better then ever. The behavior of the ponies around her as she started to read, as though reading was some great sign of the end times. Then there's the whole remembering facts without knowing how she learned them.
Rainbow Dash wants this whole stupid conspiracy to go away. But what you want isn't always what you get, or even what you need.

Haven't seen or read Cloud Atlas. I'm trying to make my way through Tolkien at the moment. That and model/paint my 15 point Mercenary army for WarMachine. ... and being a full time student...
1995068 Cloud Atlas has a tendency to suddenly, jarringly transition from one character in one time period to another in another. This feels rather similar. We've gone from a conspiracy to keep Rainbow's SCIENCE suppressed in an otherwise canon Ponyville to young Rarity and Rainbow Dash as feudal lords in some unspecified region at war with some religion or rival nation called "the Gong." You've dropped us into a barely recognizable continuity with no warning or explanation of what the flying spaghetti monster is going on.
That said, Derpy is best Igor.
I'm digging this. It's very different form everything else in my favorites list and that's what I like most. It's unique. :D

Well, this certainly helps the previous chapter make more sense. Dash was pony Lex Luthor? Very cool. How did they disempower AJ? How much has Derpy saved from the bad old days? So many questions...

Huh. Now that I've realized and accepted that Ponyville is a convenient illusion, a facade of agrarian utopia in the shadow of Canterlot, separated from the real world by distance and detail, this story has become much more engaging and understandable. Now, for some assorted thoughts:
Celestia's rebuke was a bit awkwardly worded, but still, sick burn.
I'm a bit disappointed Lyra never made a comment about the Hands of Fate.
I'm not sure what's harder to believe: Dwarves selling guns to ponies, or dwarven guns that are engraved, yet don't menace with spikes.
It seems you've gone with Discworld-style elves. Damn magnetic bastards.
And it looks like AJ's been the victim of Gold Kryptonite.
In any case, looking forward to more.
A very interesting ride though I kinda miss the original version of Manos and her over the top hand fixation. Just cause it was amusing. Anyways I'm enjoying the worldbuilding and I do hope to see how everything shapes up to make the ponyville we know and love. Plus what lies under the surface of that ponyville.
