What makes a good mare become a monster? More often than not, it is a slow progression of many decisions and unfortunate events over a long period of time. Nightmare Moon is one of the most powerful and feared beings in Equine history, but what ultimately caused Princess Luna to embrace the darkness and try to blot out all light with eternal night?
This is an appendix to A Journey Unthought of: A man's life in Equestria, however it can be treated as its own separate story that enhances the established canon of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This story was written before the Season 4 Premiere took place.

Thank you very much! I wanted to make the structure of this story very much like an old fairy tale, so I tried to draw from one of my favorite authors, J.R.R. Tolkien, for reference. I'm also trying to drawing from what I remember from reading Shakespeare's Macbeth to get the tragedy element down.
Have to ask, was this based on Wicked in any way, shape or form?
And is Orpheus going to fall in love with Luna and then die tragically and then she'll have a big nervous breakdown and then turn into Nightmare Moon, am I right?

I personally never saw WIcked, but my sister loved it and I picked up some of the basic plot from her. It is rather ominous how the plots parallel
It does seem like the natural thing storywise that Luna and Orpheus would fall in love, but I wanted to avoid 'Luna x OC romantic shipping'. I'd say that the two of them are very good friends, and that they are close, but not romantically involved with each other.

1. I didn't consciously try to homage Wicked in my story, but now that I've taken a look a summary of the extended plot it is extremely eerie how they so easily relate to each other. I'd call this a very happy coincidence!

The story will be filled out to fifteen chapters ( so you know how many to look for ), and there is a pony with a name that references to a certain famous dark romantic Virginian's work.

No good deed goes unpunished, or so I'm told.
The story is done, and the transformation is complete. The stage is set for the most titanic battle ever witnessed by ponykind, and you'll get the chance to witness it! Princess Celestia vs Nightmare Moon; I'll just go ahead and say that I can describe it in one word: epic.
Look for a new story tomorrow morning from me, my first one shot. The fate of the world lies in the balance as two enemies and former sisters bring their all to the forefront. It is the end of everything as we know it. It is Apocalypse Unbound.
