Winged Anomaly

E
Source

One thousand years ago, something happened in Canterlot. Two Princesses entered a room, and only one walked out again. The people were told something to keep them quiet, to keep them from talking, but it wasn't the truth... only Celestia remembers what actually happened.

Dawnstar is a much darker take on the story of the two sisters - opening with a more believable set of events that may have occurred the day Luna was banished, then following Celestia as she lives a thousand years without her sister. Unlike my other stories, it's almost completely lore compatible - it fits so well it's practically a conspiracy theory.
The only thing that doesn't click in perfectly with show lore is the conversation between Luna and Celestia at the end, but the one that took place in the show's second episode no longer made sense, so I call artistic liscence ;)

Hope you enjoy it!

I wouldn't have forgiven Celestia. I mean really, she sent her sister to the moon just because she was paranoid. It would take more than an apology to make up for that.

I'm not putting your story down, its just me thinking about a story I can write about Luna's banishment. You get a like

Right in the feels good sir! :raritycry:

It was supposed to be as lore compatible. Beyond that, I was trying to imply that Luna had gone through many of the same stages that Celestia did - anger, self-doubt, acceptance, that sort of thing. A thousand years is a long time to think. Beyond that, the idea is that the Elements of Harmony 'reset' Luna - she hasn't forgotten that she was on the moon, but her mind is now unaffected by the ordeal.

Anyway, sorry if I seem defensive, I'm just trying to justify my decisions :P Glad you liked it!

In many ways, it's an inversion of why the canon Celestia forgave Luna. In both cases, the one forgiven had been psychologically sick and thus not fully responsible for their own actions. The only thing that I would worry about, if I were Luna in this AU, was the degree of casual manipulation and deception Celestia had used to cover up her mistakes and manipulate the Bearers to fight Nightmare Moon. That is indicative of somepony who is still too attached to her throne for it to be entirely healthy.

Now... I wonder... Who wrote that prophecy? I'm wondering if it was Twilight herself, who then placed it in her own past hooves using one of Starswirl's time spells. After all, Celestia will bear watching... perhaps will even command the Bearers to watch her lest her mind break again. However, the right seeds will need to be placed to ensure that, when the time comes, they already know the real cause of the breakdown between the alicorn sisters and will thus will suspect the stability of Celestia's judgement when she is under stress.
