Thinking Engine

Babbage engines aren't very good at writing stories about ponies.

T

Meet James Maxwell, a young industrial welder who has given up on his dreams and settled for a life of adequacy and predictability.
What happens when a device meant to improve railroad security puts him in a situation where he has to adapt, not only to a whole new world, but to the life as a servant to an Equestrian family?

Thanks for giving this fic a chance.
So...first fic, HiE, and OCs. Looks like the royal flush of uh-ohs, right?
Anyway, I hope you'll forgive this awkward start. Feel free to nitpick. :moustache:

interesting, very interesting... will keep track^^

and try to keep the pace, no need for rashing things

Sounds a lot like the protagonist in my story. Interesting. I'll have to see where this goes.

Capitalize your "I". You will get much more credibility if you do that one thing

I had a look at the first chapter, and I see what you mean. Coincidence, I promise. :facehoof:

Fixed. I'll have my proofreader severely punished for this.

Expensive orichalcum clamps? Really? I mean, they have a train system and everything...

Oh well, thumbs up and faved, looking forward to the next chapter.

I think switching to Diesel would've been a rather simpler solution there, Merlot.

This is a really cool idea.

You could stand to break up your paragraphs a little more. And don't forget to begin a new one every time someone else speaks.

Did you mean a vest when you said 'west'?:applejackconfused:

1783239 Except that diesel locos are possibly the least aesthetically pleasing, Equestria probably doesn't know much about oil refining and even if they did there might not be that much, also the Equestrian socio-political system is more likely to be concerned about environmental impact, tradition and general aesthetics than any human system.

I know, I know! Don't worry, I'm in the steam camp, all the way. I was just being deliberately silly.

1794347>>1794364 For the record, I'm in favor of trains in general. I liek dem.

1794794 I can agree with you on that front, I was warning against assuming that Equestria and the real world should work the same way.

Very interesting story. My respect for the author, who has decided to go beyond kleshe and habits of fandom. Good characters, good description of the world. Fav`s and thumb up.
