In retaliation for the attack on Canterlot, Princess Celestia leads a crusade against the Changeling Horde. The Elements of Harmony fight bravely in the campaign, and are rewarded with landed titles in the newly-conquered Duchy of the Outer Lands.
Friendship is magic, but will it prevail against the cold, hard reasons of state?
Tagged as 'Alternate Universe' because of divergence following Season 2's ending. But if possible, I will try not to go too far off track. The story will probably have a more medieval atmosphere than canon.
Rated 'Teen' just in case.
While the story will contain all of the Main Six, interactions between Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Twilight will (if according to plan) drive most of the plot. Thus the tags.
Other characters from MLP:FiM might be mentioned in the story, and they will deviate (a lot) from 'acceptable' canon. It didn’t disappoint. Poor Fluttershy, Twilight has really cracked under the pressure.
I’d image that pony warfare would be like 16th/17th century Pike and Shot tactics, only with unicorns instead of musket men. Pegasi would be like cavalry and skirmishers and Pinkie’s party cannon somewhat suggests that they have cannon technology. (That’s ignoring the references to bullets and tanks
)
As for the story, power really has made them loose their minds. I’m interested to see who comes out on top!
2018957 What you've said actually fits into what I was thinking :P I always thought that pony warfare would be based on the 'tercio' formations as well. In any case, I'm not planning to fit major battle scenes into the story, cause I need some more time to plan for them. Probably an appendix, as mentioned earlier.

2430449 yeah I got that feeling, maybe its the fact that everythings moving at such a rapid pace coupled with the fact the mane 6 seem to be shuffling constantly through personalties they shouldn't have, like one minute twilight is being the devious puppet master, a few scenes later she's a wallowing mess, vice versa for AJ, I don't feel right criticising it since its a very good piece of writing, but I just cant shake the notion that in the last few chapters its not working as well as it should, sorry I cant be more specific

I got a Comprimise. How about Fluttershy will hire trained bears and soldiers for the military and the animals will live in zoos and in Fluttershy's home or whatever to help give advise on ruling the county? That way more protection would be generated and the animals will still be safe!
