This is a very heartfelt and thoughtful story...
For the longest time, nine years to be exact, my dog was my best friend. But an old age disease got the better of him.
I still love that l'il guy and think of him from time to time. Sorry for reminiscing a bit, but I felt a bit compelled too. D;
I think your story really gets the bond that one shares with a longtime pet. It was heartbreaking to imagine Applejack making one of the hardest decisions a pet owner would ever have to make.
A little confusing at times, but still extremely touching.
