Some Canterlot entertainers aren't just musicians... and some ponies fall in love with them anyways.
When one of Equestria's most popular cellists appears at Twilight's birthday party, it's just another gig for Octavia, but a shock for Twilight and the rest of the party-goers. She arrives, wishes Twilight a happy birthday, wows them with her beautiful music, wows them with her musical beauty, and doesn't leave until after everypony else has left. So when a few ponies suggest that this 'entertainer' might be more than just a musician... some eyebrows are raised, but nothing more. Twilight is beyond reproach, after all, and Octavia can earn her living however she wants. When she sticks around Ponyville, however, it becomes a slightly different story - Twilight is romantically-naive, after all, and Octavia is... most certainly not.

Rated 'Teen'. Per FimFiction's rating guidelines, this story contains some 'more adult themes', but has no 'graphically adult content'. Rated primarily for sexually suggestive material, but also (in later chapters) alcohol use and adult language.
Interesting story. It'll be nice to see if Rarity's words are truth or if it's just a rumor. I can see Celestia hiring her for either reason, really.
One small nitpick, does Lyra mean Unicorn ponies instead of Pegasus in regard to musical talent? That would make a little more sense, with the magic, I think.
And next chapter we get a VERY large dose of naive!Twilight.

Ok, so far this story leaves me really hopeful.
Good Twilight, good Rarity. Now we just a little bit to make this story work.
Now, we only need a careful dissection of social perceptions, misconceptions about people involved in adult entertainment, about this position and how to attain it, about different constraints. And don't forget psychological ramifications of other people making wild fabrications about your social station. Internal conflicts of a person, whose job is seen as adverse to everything sacred on Earth. And as your choice of occupation raises alarms, even though you mean no harm and maybe would rather work on a rock farm, you still take pride in your work, with all its hardships and quirks, reaching out even to the greatest of jerks, and making them feel safe and accepted, something they never expected.
If ponies think it just takes a flank, to take this check to the bank, than they are not fit for a think tank. It takes careful perception, perfect recollection, near perfection in all things intimate, before you spring into action. So while lots of ponies have been in the act, it's a simple and obvious fact, that due to hesitancy to react, a general lack of tact or due to some knowledge they lacked, they performance is usually less than stellar - whether in bedroom, boudoir or a barn cellar.
An entertainer can't afford such blunders, she has to strike as lightning and thunder, tearing client's reservations asunder, both booty and pirate hungry for plunder. And as she leaves the premises, feeling professional and generous, for better or worse, leaving her client dumbfound, staring with a grin at the ground, filled to the brim with happiness given - not found.

I'm not going to comment on Rarity's personal knowledge/familiarity of/with Octy. Not yet, at least. However, I will say that Rarity does not have to be a customer to know about this sort of thing. She did, after all, spend a lot of time in with certain parts of high society, and may have observed more than she experienced.
