Rainbow Dash isn't having a very good day. First she was in some dark place, then it turns out she's in the hospital. Oh, and she's apparently blind now.

I rember a certain story story being featured a while ago dealing with the same topic, only that one was about twi being blinded. PLease tell me it is just a coincidence 
Secondly, RD is extremely OOC! I am pretty sure she would freak out then be mad at herself for getting herself blind

Changelings have horns, like unicorns, as a focus point for their changeling magic (feeding on emotions, shape-shifting.). Like some insects, they have wings because they may need to travel long distances to search for food. (Like bees) Both I think came about due to evolutionary demands, but are not actually related to ponies or alicorns at all.

Like others have said, Rainbow seems oddly compliant to follow the doctor's orders... Not sure how OOC that is or not, but I know I would freak if I was blind/couldn't see. Still, you claim you have that taken care of in the second chapter, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for now...
Nice, man. Love the premise, much like I love the emotional anguish and heartbreaking despair of cute, colorful things. Needless to say, I be trackin' dis.

"Acquire" means to learn or get something. I think you meant to say "possessed" or something similar.

I haven't read this but already I feel attached to this story. I have a feeling the pic has something to do with it...It makes me think about what I would do if I ever became blind.
BTW loved the description of the story, again, It hit me hard.

I have an answer for you...
You have it backwards. Alicorns have wings and horns like Changelings. changelings came first, and Alicorns began to arise some time afterwards, possibly as a cultural response to a rising Changeling threat.
After all, what better way to keep such mighty forces at bay than to invent and create literal gods in your midst.
Actually, there's at least one more called A Rainbow in the Dark that has a pretty similar basis, right down to the dragon attack. For both this fic and that one I am withholding judgement until the story is further along.
Not bad, but I can tell this could be a bit better. I'm not a hater, I'm an aspiring critic, and I am actually impressed with this first chapter. By the way, when I mean "it could be better", I'm only refferring to how I have an odd sence of literature. This DOES seem to have promise, and it does have Rainbow's emotions splayed out all over it. Nicely done, but remember, not TOO good. 8.7/10

Changelings do NOT have wings and horns like Alicorns do.
Alicorns have Pegasus wings and Unicorn horns, whereas changelings have Changeling Horns and Changeling wings.
An Alicorn's wings are birdlike, they have a bone structure, a muscle structure and feathers. Changeling Wings are insect like, designed for quick and accurate movements.
An Alicorn's horn is it's gateway to it's magic within, it enables the Alicorn to manipulate the world/universe around them by transferring the energy of their magic supply through filters known as 'Spells'. A common changeling horn is more for attack, as the common changelings don't have the magic reservoir in order to filter the right amount for spells, the only 'spell' they have is their natural changing (ing not ling) abilities, through a fire-like method. The changeling can also manipulate this fire-like ability in order to form a cone around them, so they can ram more efficiently.
The common changeling relies on natural ability rather than their own magic. However, this, is for the common changeling, not the queen.
It can be implied that the changeling race runs on a 'hive-mind' system, with their Queen Chrysalis at the top. The love that the changelings gather is their life support and their energy, but all this energy goes right to the queen, whom then disperses it the way she pleases. As the queen is the only changeling that is able to tap into the reservoir of magic, she is the only one that can filter it.
Accusing the Changelings of having Alicorn features is like accusing a Lemon of having Lime features.

It just... wasn't worth it...
Good start for the story, but I do think Rainbow is acting ever so slightly out of character. While she is obviously upset, I feel she'd likely be so much more so, given the situation. She just seems a wee bit too calm in my opinion, but hey, it's only the first chapter; these sorts of things will get brought up at some point, given the premise your working with
Also, while the others aren't as important for this chapter, I think in future they should be given a wee bit more life to them. While I know it's certainly hard giving a visual response to their actions, given the blindness, I would still put emphasis on sound when describing other actions, seeing as it would greatly benefit the story. It will also make the narrative more realistic, but I was also wondering if you planned to tell the whole story from Dash's perspective, or if you were going to switch to other characters in other chapters?
Couldn't see any grammar issues though, which, I do admit, is a nice bonus for me. Maybe I missed some, but it was nice reading a piece without seeing errors.
But as a whole, the idea is a good one, and the story has potential and for that reason, it deserves to be tracked. I may even check out the blog too

The beginning of this song fits very well with the intro of the story, I think.
I have a bit of a problem with this story.
While it's fine to take some "inspiration" from another story, this doesn't appear to be that. This entire story is, verbatim, exactly how events have unfolded in the Ask Blind Rainbow Dash blog, thus far. Let's go over the elements:
Dash was basically killed by a dragon? Check.
Dash risked her life to save Fluttershy? Check.
Twilight's spell that brought Dash back to life is what caused Dash's blindness? Check.
Eventual Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash shipping? Check.
So, here's the big question. Have you contacted the moderator of the "Ask Blind Dash" blog and asked his or her permission for using his characters and storyline? Because, so far, this story appears to be exactly the same story.
Please take a few moments to read the four existing pages of the Ask Blind Rainbow Dash blog if you need to compare and contrast this story with the source material.
There's actually another which no-one seems to have mentioned called Reading Rainbow that even has one of the title page background based on it.
Don't believe me? Just go to the top of this page and scroll through them using the arrows at the side until you see a pic of Rainbow reading to Twilight whilst Twilight's in a hospital bed with bandages over her eyes.
Yeah, THAT one.
Anyway, great story, looking forward to more.

This is a absolutely fantastic story so far.
Ah, it's funny. I've been working on a story for quite some time now where Octavia goes blind, and yadayada.
I mean, to lose your complete sense of vision, it must be crazy. The only thing you have to comfort yourself is blackness, and well of course, your dreams.
Cant wait to read more!

I was lead to think that AJ got RBD's body to twilight, so maybe you could do a chapter about that, or the dragon encounter in general. Remember, just an idea, last time I didn't say that, I got my comments removed

My sense for picking a great book is probably second only to twilight and only because she lives in a library.
