Ponky

Hope you laughed or learned something.

E

This story is a sequel to The Sisters Doo

Twilight Sparkle is a scientific pony. She understands things when they are explained.

Pinkie Pie is... uh... not a scientific pony. And she can't explain anything.

But there are secrets in the Wabe that Twilight needs to know, and only Pinkie has the answers.

A side-story to "The Sisters Doo".

*HOOF PUMP*
YES YES1.

Looks interesting... Do I need to read the sisters' doo before reading this?

1471169 This should be plenty of fun without "The Sisters Doo", but it will make, like, 300% more sense if you're caught up with this.

1471178
Gotcha. :raritywink:

I'll get to reading your most famous work... After I finish my 195,029 unread words on my favorites list :pinkiegasp:... Not including the words still left for The End of Ponies. :applejackconfused:

I guess I'll just have to put off SS&E's most self-beloved work even further down my list. :ajsleepy:

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!:twilightsheepish::twilightsheepish::twilightsheepish:

I was reading The Sisters Doo, and thought the chapter was over... Then I saw the link to this!!!! YAY!!! :pinkiehappy:

Is this one shot?

Excelent!:ajsmug: I was wanting to see what happened with this!

This is so neat. Love the Hunting of the Snark and Carroll himself. According to my l33t research skills (checking Wikipedia), the baker could be interpreted as being Lewis/Bluish like how you have it in the story.

“One of them looks a lot like Equestria, but everything’s burnt and dark and the ponies are so sad!"
Hmm, Fallout: Equestria, maybe?

“And another one’s really creepy: there are all these ponies hooked to chains, and for some reason it always makes me think of cheese strings...”
...Background Pony?

I am so happy to see this. This made me look into the sisters doo and then I decided that this was the reason I was really getting into the story (the entire story is good but this side story was making me curiouser and curiouser)...

She saw murders going down.

Wabe? Are there dragons with the faces of mole-rats?

So, Clover the Clever was a stallion? Or was that a typo?

Fave'd, thumbs'ed. 'Nuff said.

I wonder if this is somehow connected to the Artifact of Doom what doomed Danger Doo up real nice?

Ok, now I get the sundial reference in Sisters Doo.

Sort of.

The wabe is explained in "Through the Looking Glass".

This is gonna be interesting. :pinkiehappy:

WOO! 100th like!:yay:

Ohhhhh my gosh Ponky I love you so much for writing this!:pinkiehappy: Lewis Carroll is my #1 all-time FAVORITE author! Snark, Alice, the fairies... even the logic puzzles, I've read them all and then YOU write THIS! You're the best!:raritystarry:

1473336
Seconded. Clover was depicted as female in the series. Maybe a crossdresser?

1474336 YAY! :pinkiehappy: I've read all of those, too! Lewis Carroll is my all-time favorite author, and you're gonna see a TON of references to a LOT of his works throughout these Eight Fits!

1473336>>1474436
In my world, the "Hearth's Warming Eve" episode was focusing on the Mane Six's play. In the factual annals of Equestrian History, Commander Hurricane, Smart Cookie, and Clover the Clever were all stallions. Princess Platinum, Chancellor Puddinghead, and Private Pansy remain mares.

1474550
Ohhhh wow. I may just die. It's SO rare to find people that have read anything beyond Alice, you know? But I LOVE Sylvie and Bruno and Phantasmagoria... There should be an Author's Group for Carroll-inspired pony writers! :pinkiehappy:

"I love the stilness of the wood:
I love the music of the rill:
I love to couch in pensive mood
Upon some silent hill."
-from Carroll's Solitude

1474583 Sylvie and Bruno was tough for me, but Phantasmagoria is one of the best things ever!!

"I'd give all wealth that years have piled,
The slow result of Life's decay,
To be once more a little child
For one bright summer-day."
-closing stanza of Solitude

"But here, in Dreamland's centre,
No spoiler's hand may enter,
These visions fair, this radiance rare,
Shall never pass away."
-Dreamland

1474626
The third time I read through my Collected Works was when Sylvie and Bruno REALLY hit me. It's tough at first, but the story and illustrations really remind me of all the old Wizard of Oz books, which I love.

"Say, whose is the skill that paints valley and hill,
Like a picture so fair to the sight?
That flecks the green meadow with sunshine and shadow,
Till the little lambs leap with delight?
'Tis a secret untold to hearts cruel and cold,
Though 'tis sung, by the angels above,
In notes that ring clear for the ears that can hear-
And the name of that secret is Love!
For I think it is Love,
For I feel it is Love,
For I'm sure it is nothing but Love!"
-End verse of A Song of Love:heart:

And Phantasmagoria is just phenomenal! His poetry is just so.... natural.

1474648 Huzzah! What a perfect description, "natural". His meter and rhyme are consistently impeccable. What an incredibly talented man, an artist and scholar of so many fields! I've always preferred his own vision of Alice (although Tenniel's illustrations are classic).

Funny enough, I've tried to read "Sylvie and Bruno" twice before. Perhaps I, like you, will enjoy it on my third go-round. What he tells me three times is true, after all. :raritywink:

...
I read Alice In Wonerland and Through The Looking Glass a long time ago. Might be time to revist them.

Also, Alice was my great, great, Aunt(or something, maybe a cousin...) so despite the fact that I haven't read the books in over a decade, I always sit up and take notice of anything having to do With Alice in Wonderland.

I was looking forward to this so much more than Daring, Ditzy, and Rainbow. Twilight and Pinkie will get to have much more fun adventures. Plus they're much crazier than those friends of theirs.

1474731
Yeah, mine came illustrated with Tenniel's, as well as quite a few other notables' illustrations. It's amazing how he managed to capture his thoughts perfectly not just a few times, but in all of his verses.

And my favorite fun fact is that Alice was really a brunette (although, being a brown-haired gal myself, I may just be prejudiced against the blonde Disney version).:scootangel:

Poor Twilight, it looks like nopony can talk about it and give an actual explanation.:trollestia:

It burbled as it came, the Jabberwock did.

“Sometimes I see super weirdo worlds through the Portal, and I don’t think they could exist anywhere in our dimension. One of them looks a lot like Equestria, but everything’s burnt and dark and the ponies are so sad! Another one doesn’t have any ponies at all, just these tall pink things that wear clothes all the time. And another one’s really creepy: there are all these ponies hooked to chains, and for some reason it always makes me think of cheese strings...”

Ok, I'll bite. Fallout: Equestria, Earth, and the unsung realm.

Can't wait for more of this, let me go get my time machine... Oh, right. Dang.

I would read this, but I am already juggling Background Pony, End of Ponies, and Fallout: Equestria project horizons.

I am basically in lust with you right now. Not only did you reference one of my Favourite Authors, pointed me towards some of my favourite poems of his (I love the Hunting of the snark, but I can never remember to look it up every now and then) and make me aware of yet more That I'd never even HEARD of, But you Actually managed to Ponify a Name in such a way, it didn't leave me wanting to spew Vitriolic Acid from my every oriface. Kudos!

1476285 I didn't realize that the third one was the unsung realm. 0.o. Luckily I have read Fallout equestria and Background pony.

1482366
It's not confirmed, but I think it's heavily implied.

1472564>>1476285
[youtube=olc8RFiLllk]

"Contrariwise,' continued Tweedledee, 'if it was so, it might be, and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."

hmm i'll follow this little journey see where it goes

Ok, so I started reading this expecting just another 'X in Wonderland' style story which seemingly only draws on one or two films (The wrong view to take, retrospectively thinking, after you've already shown a fairly developed grasp of Dodgson's works) and then I got to my favourite poem written in narrative (That the right choice of words?) and...

Well, the English language has many faults and limitations, one of which I have now reached.
So I'll borrow a page of my ancient ancestors and use a picture to display my thoughts in a succinct manner.

I do wonder if Sylvie and Bruno will get a cameo.
As Flutterponies perhaps? :pinkiehappy:

What's great about the mirror dimension is that if you want to see Twilight finally spill the beans, there's a mirror for that.
Want to check if Cadance is really who she says she is? There's a mirror for that.
Need to find a bathroom sink, quick? There's a mirror for that too.
Yep, there's a mirror for just about... anything.
Only on the piePhone.

1502639 That was pure genius.

1474550
Huh. I always thought that Clover the Clever, Princess Platinum, Smart Cookie and Private Pansy were the mares. Shows how much I know. Even if they put the details in, I'll ignore them and think of them my own way.

I have no idea what's going on. But that's certainly not a first for me.

I am confused and loving it.
