Obselescence

Bye guys

The world spins, years pass, and everything comes to an end. Except Celestia. She sits on the shore of the last ocean, watching and waiting for her own chance at death. Because everything comes to an end if you wait long enough, and Celestia is patient indeed.

This thing was a thing. A good thing.

Shes dead, Jim.

What?Someone had to go there. :pinkiehappy:

Quietly beautiful and sadly sweet. A fine piece indeed. I'd like to see more "Celestia at the end of time" stories, but at the same time I don't want the concept to become played out...

Ah well. In any case, thank you for this.

Very interesting concept

Aw, I'm sad now.
Why you do this?

Falling Off The Edge Of The World - Black Sabbath

Reminds me of The Fountain.

This
This was beautimous.
Have five Celestias.
:trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia:

Read this while listening to the Finding Nemo main title, and gotta say, the combination really made me tear up. This was such a good story. Favoriting and upvoting.

This story honestly puts most to shame, and kicks both BlackWing and I in the posterior, hard. You are indead a great wordsmith, and I wish you well.

Man, that was sad yet beautiful :fluttercry::raritycry:. I plays a whole new concept about Celestia and how she would handle the end of everything. I loved it. Make more stories like this.

Oh, that was wonderful. The mood and the tone were perfectly expressed. You never disappoint.

Aww you published it before I could read the finished version...

was listening to this......so many feels

I'm impressed that you still find enough meat on that old, gnawed bone of "the curse if immortality".:trollestia:
And what a juicy piece of meat it was.

Are you happy now Celestia haters? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!?:raritycry:

This gave me exactly 11 feels. In return I give you exactly 11 mustaches. :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

This is Celestia, right? The same impish, fun-loving Celestia we all saw in "Bird in the Hoof"? :trollestia:

1557561

I'd like to think the published version turned out better than what I would've shown you when I actually finished writing.

1557662

Who else would it be? :trollestia:

1557672 Ah, even the ruler of Equestria needs friendship... :ajsleepy::rainbowhuh::fluttershbad::pinkiesad2::raritycry::twilightangry2:

*As I finish posting a chapter on my Celestia + End of TIme story

This is way beyond anything of my caliber. And...

The symbolism, man. The symbolism!

Wait, why isn't this featured yet? :twilightoops:
What the hell... Is there a button I missed?

1557092
And it was bold of you, because nobody had gone there before.

forever is short, especially when forever nears its end.

This was a good one shot, celestia went through so much in her life, its good to see her getting the much needed rest she more then deserved upvote

My favorite part is still the tree, the symbolism of which is only slowly revealed over the course of the story and not fully revealed until the end. Celestia and immortality isn't a new area of exploration for the fandom, but this was a very well done and unique take on it. Thanks for writing and for sharing!

1557655
That was 10 mustaches. :derpyderp2:

1557828 Oh. Heh, that's embarassing :twilightblush:

I DEMAND A SEQUEL!

THIS... is a fiction! It's so, very rare that I fine GOOD reads like this!

1557561 Thank you VERY MUCH for referring me to this story. It was... just blissful!

My gosh. My feels. Everywhere!

Thanks for this, and nice job. I loved the concept!

Wow. This was tragic.

As much as I hate to debase this story with this kind of crude language, I am feeling ALL THE FEELS. If the fandom had any sense, this would replace My Little Dashie as Official Fandom Sadfic. Dashie just gave me feels of "wow, this was poorly-written." This is giving me serious tragic feels.

Excellent work.

Dangit all, I can't upvote this hard enough!

I'd hate to be "That Guy", but if she's so powerful, couldn't she just.... off herself? I don't want her to do that, but living to the end of time seems like a cruel cosmic joke.

That was an Amazing story, one of the best I have read. And I have read a lot.

1557932

A sequel to the end of everything. So 50 blank pages or something?

Anyway, it is certainly very well written but the premise leaves me with some rather big question marks. For example, why did Discord ever kill Luna? Discord is a malevolent trickster who revels in chaos, there is nothing chaotic about death. Death is plain boring, so I can't really see Discord as a killer. Mental torture and disregard for the natural laws sure. But where is the fun in chaos if there is nobody to judge it as such?

Also, where did the ponies go? They clearly had quite some time to sort themselves out before the sun started to go red giant. That seems like a pretty good reason to build some kind of spacecraft to escape the planet. But considering Celestia is still stuck on the surface they either didn't do that, or they left her behind...

And my last major issue is Celestia repressing her memories. Even in our short human lives we rather quickly come to the conclusion that this is not a good way to cope with loss and regret. I'd have expected Celestia to come to the same conclusion early in her millions of years of solitude.

So yea, premise needs some fleshing out I think. Other than that its a great story.

This... Really makes me wonder just what it was that destroyed this world, or what really could.

Outside of that, tis beautifully well written :raritycry:

Y'know, to be completely honest, I was kinda sitting on the fence with this fic between upvoting or not... the beginning was a bit rough. Definitely didn't have me sympathizing too much with Celestia...

And then the closing shots happened and all was good and pretty and wonderfully full of feels of various sorts. Actually... not a helluva lot of sad in the ending. Think that's what I ended up appreciating the most.

Nice ficlet, Obsie.

This plus the song from October Sky made me feel.

1558166

Time. Or more accurately, the sun shifting from hydrogen fusion to helium fusion and becoming a red giant. A similar fate awaits Earth in about four billion years or so.

I don't know why, but this hit me really hard. It's 3am where I am and I've given up trying to sleep for the time being. I think I'm going though a miniature existential crisis. Perhaps not a good thing to read just before bed. I don't regret it though.

You may have a feel. Now get in the damn feature box and kick out some of the trash that has no place staying there :twilightangry2:

1558675 Agreed.

If I could give this story more than one upvote, I would. But since I can't, here is some more "listen to this while reading music"

1558554 Ah. Well, let's hope there aren't any immortal beings that get to sit there and watch the world end then.

That would be a very depressing fate.

How is this not featured? The featured box is an enigma indeed.

That was beautiful... so very beautiful :raritydespair::raritycry::fluttercry::pinkiesad2::ajsleepy::applecry:

That was better than a make-out session on a sharkicane (Blueshift's blog :trollestia:)

Very nice. Perfectly bittersweet.

This was really well done. I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into it, and it really seems to have paid off. Way to go.

I still remember reading this when it was but a little baby fic idea, so very long ago. It was amazing then, and it's even more so now. This is absolutely terrific, Obs - I hope you're proud, because you should be.

This is...beautiful.:fluttercry:

Your writing is amazing. :trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia:
