You know Vinyl Scratch. Everypony knows Vinyl Scratch: Cocky, sure of herself, parties all night and likes her music loud and the beats louder. And talking about herself in the third person.

    What? It's fun.

Okayokayokay... so anyway, you're wondering how I first met my better half, right? (And don't tell her I called her that - she'll rib me about it me all day.)

Well, the whole thing kinda began somewhere you'd never expect to find me: The opera house.

    I kid you not.

    woah.

That was...really good. You nailed the kind of attitude for any fantastic OctaScratch piece. There is one problem though, and i'm sure you wouldn't expect this to get past me but, for /whatever/ reason this is marked as complete. What is this nonsense!!! (notice the three exclamation marks, it's means I know what I am saying) Why would you taunt me with such beauty just to rip it away from me.   /wrists

    Great job SGR,

So as a fellow Tavi/Scratch writer (granted the tone in my story is very different), I like what you've got going so far.  You have a good voice going here, even if the chapter itself if a bit brief.  I'll keep an eye on this and see how it goes :)

Hey you posted it!  Awesome man.  I liked how you beefed it up a bit, and that last part still gets me.  Keep it up!

Just a little something to keep my pen sharp. And show people I'm not quite dead.

Seriously, though, check out that link in the description. Great place to go if you either want to get a feel for writing if you're just starting out or - like me - want to keep yourself in practice.

I'm not good with comments but - I just want you to know that I think of this as nothing less than perfection.

Well thanks, but there's better out there. I mean, I'm not gonna lie -  I'm pretty damned pleased with myself as a whole: I'm a solid writer, I have fans, people wait and see what I'll write next and I'm pretty good at this, but I'd never have the hubris to accept a comment like that, though I understand and deeply appreciate the feeling and sentiment behind it.

I'm good and I know this, but I accept that there may be and are better. I'm glad you're happy with my story - that's really why I write, so other people can enjoy it - but don't be surprised if someone writes something better.

    I look forward to it.

I understand how you feel about my comment. And your kind and professional response speaks for you.

But I usually don't judge stories (or things in general) by comparing them to others. I try to judge them for what they are. Here, I've read a story with excellent writing (it felt so much like Vinyl) and pacing (not too long/slow, not too short/fast). That's why I couldn't think of any way to write it any better -  hence making it perfect to me.

But then again, I'm new in town and maybe I've totally underestimated the quality of this community.

Oh you'd be surprised. I've read things that have literally reduced me to tears. I'm still physically incapable of reading at least one.

Considering these are stories concerning pastel-colored ponies, they can be surprisingly deep.

I liked it, like... a lot.

You shouldn't stop here though, it's a nice buildup that begs for more story.

Eh, I dunno; I'm pretty happy with the way it was, but then I was pretty happy with "Quit Dragon Your Heels" too. Then I wrote another chapter. And an epilogue.

Very nice work on this, a great touch with the narrative voice. Vinyl's personality shines through without overwhelming the story, and her own descriptions are used very well. I'm not a huge TaviScratch fan, but this? I like.

This one moment in time that you've captured is absolutely beautiful.  I can just picture Vinyl sitting there with those tears in her eyes, and I can't help but get misty eyed too.  I can almost hear the music . . . .
