I love comedy of royal sisters.

This is going to get really good, Really fast. I can tell. There are quite a few comedy fics for the royal sisters, butthis one is better than most. The romance and vacation subjects are probably my favorite things about it. Especially that part where Luna recognizes A porn star's name. Classic!

Tasked with raising the sun in Celestia's absence, the group of soldiers set themselves to their work. They soon find the sun is far more difficult to raise than initially anticipated. Desperate not to fail their Princess, the soldiers push themselves far beyond their limits; some die, the rest are left with shattered minds. The losses sustained from this Pyrrhic victory are passed off as the results of a training mission gone wrong along the boarders. More soldiers are added each time, though when Celestia finally comes back an entire company has been wiped out. The captain heading up the coverup is punished by being turned to stone (Celestia decides to put an ironic touch to this and make said pony into the ''Victory'' statue in her garden) and vows to never let such escapades get in the way of her royal duties.

In any case, there is a variety of pairings in this story, some don't pan out, others do, but the story doesn't end with Celestia x OC. I rarely pair OCs with canon characters because unlike most fandoms, this fandom seems to have a hard-on for OC-bashing. I only go against that grain when I think it's funny enough.

And yeah, I totally understand what people think about OCs, I just don't agree. But that comes from having spent times in other fandoms where views of OCs were radically different. And the modern assumption that all OCs are self-inserts is misguided and wrong. I'm not sure where it comes from, though I get the feeling it probably comes from views associated with the Sonic Fandom.

And that's actually an interesting view of background ponies. I never thought of them as being blank slates; I usually wait to see what the fandom decides they are and just go with that.

While I don't mind people who ship OCs with canon characters (provided the story is DAMN good and the OC is DAMN well built and characterized), I don't believe in creating self-insert OCs to ship with canon characters unless you are writing it for the lulz, or you are writing a second-person clopfic.
