As someone who reads the books religiously, you pretty much captured Gandalf perfectly. I will be looking forward to the next chapter.

One question, is Gandalf older and more powerful than than Celestia and Luna or are they also Maiar who coose to not stay in Arda?

I'll read this at some point. But there's still the whole return of Morgoth aka the true Dark Lord to deal with, but not for a very long time yet.

I have a sudden funny mental image of Twilight doing a Rainbow Dash fangirl with him.  "It's you! It's really you! Ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh...!"

Of course, Gandalf tends to bring trouble with him where-ever he goes (and he only ever means to do so half the time).  I strongly suspect that he would have brought business for the Princesses and the Elements, although that will only be revealed in due time.

Alright, I've read through it and I have this to say:

Keeping a little more space between the paragraphs would do you good, though it's not problematic to get who says what and understand what is described in the story. I didn't see any spelling mistakes so good on you for that.

Like I said in my previous comment, I was waiting for something like this and I sure wasn't disappointed as I read through. You really captured Gandalf's personality with this. Tracked, liked and excited for more.

Also, as already pointed out, Gandalf is Starswirl the Bearded.

Oh and great start to the story; a very well captured Gandalf, wonderful introduction to the story, and is presented far better than most stories (in the form of spelling, grammar, and formatting.)

1)Magic in LoTR's world is Epic and Rare. Gendalf barely used it (partly due to the fact he couldn't kill mortals with it)

2)He is the man (Maiar) of Action. Saruman was the mind of their group ( in his better days) and had more in common with Starswirl than Gendalf.

I have some great expectations about this fic, dear author.  Gods be with you.

Near the beginning, change the second reconstruct to rebuild. Keeps it from getting slightly monotone.

Anyhow, this is going to be awesome, Morgoth in Equestria, Gandalf in Equestria, two LotR crossovers, and tracking with the fury of two thousand angry suns.

Last night I was thinking about how stange it was that there was no Lord of the Rings crossovers.  Then I wake, and see this.

I've never seen Lord of the Rings, I'm probably not going to read this story, but I'll still give it a thumbs up because it seems like a really cool idea.

Lord of the Rings/Pony crossover? Why didn't I think of that?

I have to admit, I was somewhat hoping Shadowfax would go with and turn into a pony.

If you haven't read the books then I would suggest at least reading the book "The Sillmarillion" before you go any farther with this. Its like the bible of middle-Earth and has almost the entire history of Middle-Earth up to the war of the ring, so it should help you find a way to overlap the mythologies of Middle-Earth and Equestria. But other than that this seems interesting so far. Good work keeping Gandalf in character.

On a side note, In the books Faramir didn't just become the steward. Aragorn made him the Prince of the land of Ithilian....... If I'm remembering it correctly that is.

EDIT: On another side note, In the books it is mentioned in passing that one of the ancient kings of the Rohirrim had a talking horse from which all their best horses are decended...........................

my only complaint was that shadowfax is mastered by no one. he is the king of horses, and gandalf was more friend and equal that he was willing to help out than anything else.

that's right, i think shadowfax is a badass, and my favorite horse ever is named peachblossom. mixing it up with the fandoms here, but what they hey.

other than the bit with shadowfax, this looks to be interesting. wonder what's changed for good ol' gandy here.

One thing I just noticed, you say that Gandalf is older than the forests but, if I remember correctly, in both the books and in the movie Fangorn/Treebeard refers to Gandalf as"YOUNG Master Gandalf", and Treebeard himself is about as old as the forest, so if he's old enough to call Gandalf young................ Just saying............. Still a good story.............

Loved the story.  Good crossovers can be hard to come by.  Don't feel too pressured to hurry, this is a great piece of art that shouldn't be rushed.
