This is a good start, the scene is set for a few plausable scenarios, and the humour keeps anything that might be  objectionable to some, under check.

Two things for Jexx:

Celestia was taken aback slightly by this decision, since she didn't really expect it. Nonetheless, it's always nice to have a new resident here in Ponyville. If you were willing to take make a big choice like that, she would be there to help you.

I would think that she'd be more likely to accept his decision simply because, as an honorable and benevolent ruler, she would want to keep her promise.

"Well...alright, if you insist. From now on, you shall now be an earth pony. Your name is completely up to you. Are you ready to begin the transformation process?"

Wouldn't she leave the choice up to the POV character? Sure, you as the author may have decided to make him an Earth pony, but I would think it would make more narrative sense for her, being the honorable and benevolent ruler that she is, to give him the the freedom of choice and let him decide on his own to choose the subspecies of pony that you had planned for him to become.

Other than that, it's a good story. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Anyway, it's a solidly written piece of literature, so just enjoy it for what it is, rather than point out how overdone it is.  Because when you take any story and take away the minor plot occurrences you'll wind up with the same plot over and over.

True dat. Honestly, many many storylines are re-written in different formats with different characters, OCs, and people. I think that the only reason for the "notable disregard for their past" is because it seems like most HiE stories have a brony who was open about it, and was tortured and hated upon because of it. I agree, it gets boring when you read the same kind of stuff over again, but I'm not trying to point anything out or break down what he's written. I'm just voicing an opinion of mine for when it comes to HiE stories, and just giving some advice/criticism.

Normally, HiE stories tend annoy the crap out of me, because they are self-insert Gary Stu wish fulfillments. Judging by the tongue-in-cheek approach to this one, however, I can tell it's going to be one of the few, proud exceptions that is actually entertaining, and not some idealized author avatar with magical swordplay abilities and mares fighting over him. Consider this story tracked.
