Time Turner rarely found himself short of work in Canterlot. Between paranoid nobles and eccentric unicorns, the city was a perfect place for a detective to set up an office.

During the party week leading up to the 998th Summer Sun Celebration, Time Turner is hired by the young fashionista Rarity to locate her missing kitten Opalescence, lost somewhere in Canterlot.
Following Opal’s trail, Turner will have to deal with a pair of filly fooling musicians, the marefia crime family and interrupt a performance of the Canterlot Symphony Orchestra to find the aggressive hairball.

I'm detecting quantities of Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective, in this description... no?

Perfect fusion of Ponies and Dirk Gently!

I was actually looking for the "Fundamental Interconnectedness Of All Things" in pony form, glad to say I was not disappointed.

1122088
Indeed, Dirk was one of my primary inspirations for the character. It helps to make everything... fit.

Good start! I think you mean that this is a "foreword", though. "Forward" is the direction.

1122638
hours of editing and that one slips through :facehoof: the magical retcon fairy takes care of that one.

1122646
I thought about that myself, as i'm a fan of the good doctor. currently in my headcanon the two have entirely different entries, if this makes any sense at all.
My subconcious insisted on Time Turner as he stands, the name was too good to pass up and nopony else has the Detective feel around them.

Just for the hay of it i might introduce Time Turner to Dr Hooves in another story just to see what they say to each other.

sir how dare you not call him by his name? his name be Doctor Whooves

1125559
Well that's not his real name either, you'd probably have to ask River Song about that one.
even then she'd probably say "Spoilers"

1126053 still, its a turnoff. just like how in doctor whooves and assistant, derpy called herself ditzy

Here's a new chapter with an extra dose of Rarity.
Personally i like to think my characterization has been done properly, but with Rarity I want a second opinion to be sure.
So I ask everypony who reads this: Does Rarity say darling too much?

I take it then your taste is more baroque than romanetic

[PhilKenSevenImitation:] Ha ha! Multiple entendre! [/PhilKenSevenImitation]

Behold another chapter: This one comes with a special thankyou message to all my trackers, you make my day by favoriting.
As always I'm looking for feedback, let me know how you find the story or just let me know if i'm being too much of a smart ass.
:derpytongue2:

In other news you may have noticed the final version of the cover has arrived, with this last chapter i'll be submitting this to EQD shortly.
Afterall this is intended to be an entry in their "National Pony Writing Month" Aug 2012.
Frankly I'd welcome a rejection, good feedback is hard to get.

(If I wasn't somewhat sleep deprived I would write a longer review :derpyderp2:)
Anyways very interesting storyline and Rarity's 'special' skills are great.
So you keep writing this and I'll keep reading it. :raritywink:

Its Character development time, As i draw to the inevitable climax with inevitable dramatic music.
And i've got my first down thumb overnight, from somepony who never opened a chapter if i'm following my statistics properly.
Remember to give it your yay or neigh and better yet tell me why so I know what works.

Oh geez, now he's being asked to bring down the Marefia. Curse you, Opal, and your hatred for Rarity's tiny little sweater!

Here it is, the much delayed chapter 7.
Apologies for how long its taken to get it up, University life means all the assignments come at once.

I had this one finished a while ago, but I hold onto chapters untill the next one is drafted and chapter 8 was a doozy to write. I'll have that one ready shortly once i've finished editing it, in the meantime a question for my readers to ponder: Did Time Turner actually watch? :derpytongue2:

All those references! :pinkiegasp:

Also I would say Time Turner split his time evenly between his crossword puzzle and then when puzzled by said crossword puzzle he watched until it gave him the inspiration to continue puzzling out the crossword puzzle. :derpyderp2:

There it is everypony, the climax. Music!, Explosions!, Hoof to Hoof Combat!
This one took a while to write, second guessing myself the entire way but I'm pleased with the result.

Tonight's Question for the audience: Who has been holding onto Opal all this time?
The answer is hinted throughout the story, see if you can guess.

Is it discordian as in the religion, or as in just chaos (fnord)?

1240276
Chaos, specifically in opposition to harmony.

1240281
cool. just currious to see if it had any relation to my favorite religion.
have to say that i am enjoying what i've read so far.

1240345
Thank you, I always enjoy getting replies from readers.
I hope you enjoy the rest, i know I've been getting better as I've gone along.

The Donna's name is Noble? Ha! I get it.

Nice job again
Can't wait to see exactly where Opal is :rainbowlaugh:

Answers!
With this chapter complete the story comes to a close.

But what happens now? Did the Donna get properly punished by the Princess? Did Catch ever go to Ponyville?
What happened at the party?
Stay tuned for the epilogue. :derpytongue2:

Then finally the author's notes where I will cite every single reference I made during the writing of this novella.
Celestia help me... :derpyderp2:

Once that's finished I'll be embarking on a new journey with a new story, If anypony has a character they want to see in the next one I may be amenable to giving them a starring role in a story that will be better than this one. Afterall the audience gets what the audience wants (except refunds).

There we have it, finished! for now at least.

This has been a most interesting experience for me, although only (hah only!) 30,000 words long this has become the first story I've written to go beyond my normal short story format. Overall I've enjoyed writing this, as well as throwing together little puzzles and hints as well as references for my readers to find.
What next?
I'll be working on another story. It's not a sequel to Time Turner's Discordian Detective Agency (that will come next) but it should be entertaining nevertheless. Once some time has passed and I start to forget this story I'll come back and do a overhaul edit, the first few chapters (as is always the case in any story) will need the most work.

My gratitude goes out to all my readers with special thanks to those who have tracked, commented and thumbed my work up.
I hope I've managed to entertain you all with the insane ramblings of Time Turner and I look forward to doing so again. :derpytongue2:

I LOVE IT! You wouldn't happen to be writing a sequel, would you? :pinkiehappy:

Has this been submitted to Equestria Daily yet? I somehow feel it deserves more publicity than it currently has.

1301299

Actually it has been, it was bounced out of the list before it reached the pre-readers. citing "recurring grammatical errors"

I've been getting this edited on MLPChan and it is much better now than the last time I subbed it to EQD.

I shall wait... as long as it takes....

Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh!
Continuation of TTDDA! YES!^_^

It took longer than I expected but there is now a sequel, the link is at the end of the story and I look forward to hearing from all of you as it progresses.

Incidentally I'm occasionally editing this to keep it in line with my improving standards, it shouldn't bump anyone's favorites list but if it does you have my apologies.

*Grins and applauds* Very impressively done! Clearly should be on EQD ^^

Also for what it's worth, I can believe he didn't watch. Partly due to low light and partly because if you have enough bad memories of someone it ruins any physical attraction to them ><

Wait a moment... Donna Noble. I just realized that. Lots of well placed Dr Who shoutouts in this story. Well done sir, very well done.

"The Doctor". I like how you worked it in!

Luna's notes made me grin.

So, Hoofington Herding Trick is your ponyization of Bolivian Fire Drill? Cool.

2585318 I didn't notice that one at ALL until I saw your comment! Good catch, sir/madam.

Ah yeah, mother!Celestia. It's one of my favourite portrayals of her, along with badass!sun!Celestia. And best of all, the two are NOT mutually exclusive!

OH, the hypnosis makes another appearance! I'm not sure whether that'd be Chekhov's Gun or not, but either way, close enough for my TV Tropes drinking game. (The rules are simple: whenever you notice and identify a trope, drink. It's best to use water.)

2658604
I get too much mileage out of that site... the tropes are everywhere.
Pop quiz: What trope codifies Time Turner?

Thoroughly enjoyable. ON TO THE NEXT STORY!

i love how you took the subtlties from suited for success where opal purrs at the first set of dresses but hisses at the "improved" versions as well as gawk at hoity toity* :moustache: very nice

1226139
I say he didn't, but was a lot more tempted than he lets on.

2558150
Meh, I prefer my explanation. Time Turner was a whole lot more tempted than he let on, and maybe snuck a peek, but didn't actually watch.

“I think I’ll take that as a complement.”
I think you mean compliment.

Also, this is the first Time Turner story right?

2795965
It is, and also the first story I wrote beyond a couple thousand words.
There are a lot of things wrong with it, and it's been due for a rewrite for a long time. Still, it's fairly enjoyable in it's current form.

Brilliant, absolutely epic.

Your version of Time Turner is easily the best I've ever read. :yay:

1240272 I thought the climax(es) happened while Time was hiding in the closet doing crossword puzzles? :scootangel:

the Donna herself: Noble

Oh, there's a Doctor somewhere who's going to be extremely disappointed in her.

Though there's still a number of places where the fic needs a little grammatical polishing (missed capitals, dropped commas, and the like) I quite enjoyed it. I know you've said that Detective!Time and Winningverse!Time aren't the same pony, but it certainly seems like they could be. Keep writing!

Wait a minute. If Octavia's fillyfooling needs to be kept a secret, why is Time Turner talking about it in his memoirs? :trixieshiftright:
