Sisters had the perfect Equestria Daily pre-reader. In stark contrast to my other pre-readers, my only message from him or her said, in full,
Congratulations. Your story has been accepted, and will be posted within a few days.
Thanks to Cobra Commander for telling me it needed more Fancy Pants and a dash of Trixie.
I wrote "Betting the Moon" because of a comment on another story, from an Equestria Daily pre-reader, who said: "Ownership phrases of the sun or moon should be taken out and shot." I was writing a snarky reply, saying, "When I say 'Luna's Moon' it doesn't mean she can use it as collateral for a bank loan," and then I thought: What if it did mean that?
If you liked these, the next logical story to read is In Celestia We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Georg.
Thanks to bookplayer for telling me it was funny when I couldn't tell anymore. I wrote much of this while streaming an E Nomine playlist off YouTube. You probably didn't want to know that.
Never thought I'd see the day when a story about Luna in socks had me grinning from ear to ear. An event of that magnitude deserves at least a favorite.
Easily one of the most hilarious stories I have ever read. Bad horse, I insist you write more.
I find the image of a guard trying to burn the remains of a furnace amusing
These are nice. Luna and Celestia have about zero screen time for actual development, and the whole ruling sisters dynamic just sounds like so much fun. ANd you've proved it works! I loved the part at the end in regard to luna's commands to the guard. Funny stuff, creative stuff, short, sweet, and I want for more. Great job.
I am glad that Celestia understands the great importance of good tea, though I prefer jasmine over chamomile. Many people and ponies forget how soothing a nice cup of tea can be.
Twilight certainly learns from her mistakes. Can't shake her up if she's already on the floor!
Calvin and Hobbes + Celestia and Luna. my mind has been blown into a whole new dimension of Yay ![]()
I think the Princess should continue to wear socks cuz they're superstylin'!
Yeah, I've always kinda had a problem with the fact that Celestia and Luna are tyrants. Good tyrants, but tyrants nonetheless. I only endorse the idea of a benevolent dictator if I am going to become said dictator.
Secondly, YOU DID NOT JUST MAKE LUNA CRY! YOU WILL SUFFER FOR THAT, SILVER WHATEVER!![]()
you truly are the thoroughbred of sin you magnificent bastard!
Have any other great ideas for this?
The ownership of other celestial body's is really going to be a pain in the ass when we humans finally take off.
Ponified Calvin and Hobbes?
Someone make it happen right fucking now.
"Your majesty," he said, as they bounced off his face.
MY Godesses that was LMFAOROTFL. I lol'd.
"All right, civil case, then. Princess Luna, it's customary at this point for you as defendant to bow to yourself as judge."
As always in every reality, the legal system is stupid.
Funny, cute, and very heart warming. You have my personal seal of approval.
On to the next chapter!
"It doesn't do anything. It's not like I was asking for the sun."
INSTANT DEATH
I don't know where the socks thing came from but I've come to accept it.
HUZZAH! the socks have been doubled.
That cover art...I LOVE CALVIN AND HOBBES! Now uh I'm gonna be reading this story now.
Sometimes I hate my brain,
I can't see chamomile tea without thinking about the main villain from The Saga of Seven Suns.![]()
Other than that I liked this story!![]()
Sees story on front page...sees cover pic...realizes pic is a pony version of Calvin and Hobbes...likes story immediately ![]()
So I guess implementing my ideas from those human fiction books is not a good thing?
The possibilities.
CALVIN AND HOBBES REFERENCE IN THE PICTURE!!!!
SHITTTTTT!!!!!
Too cute ![]()
Glorious! The added Trixie scene and the expanded Fancy Pants scene were executed with perfection. The pictures were also a great touch. Onward to the next chapter! ![]()
I tried writing this comment about five times, each time having to start over, because I could not think of a way to properly praise how doubleplusgood I found this story to be.
Well played, sir. Well played. ![]()
She cried. Wailed, really. I should have seen it coming. I really should have. But I did not. Good job.
Finally found a crossover like this,
you deserve a:
In all honesty, Luna looks much better in her socks than Celestia does.
Which is rather ironic considering how this chapter ended.
Wow. I am loving this.
In all honesty though, with as much as we make fun of the legal system, it's still a great deal better than the alternative.
Reading a nice little story called Njal's Saga, set in the time when human laws were first being made (the name is Norse, like Thor, in case anyone was wondering), put it into a great deal of perspective for me.
Supreme executive power is derived from the masses, not through some aquatic ceremony.
So now Celestia has to take a 10 year sabbatical on the sun to claim it as her possession?
I wonder if Luna is troll enough to do it first.
Luna:
Good morning sister, I just spend 10 years and one day on the sun. Therefor it is mine. Say "please"!
"Rule of Law" is an effective system IF it is fair.
"Rule of Law" is fair IF the laws within it are fair.
Sentient beings are occasionally stupid.
Stupid sentient beings often make stupid things.
Laws within the "Rule of Law" are made by sentient beings.
THEREFORE, Sentient beings occasionally make stupid laws within the "Rule of Law".
Stupid laws within the "Rule of Law" are unfair.
IF the laws within the "Rule of Law" are not fair, THEN the "Rule of Law" is not fair.
IF something is not fair, THEN it is unfair.
THEREFORE "Rule of Law" is unfair.
THEREFORE "Rule of Law" is not an effective system.
YAY DEDUCTIVE LOGIC!
Actually... I think I might have left some assumptions in there. Oh well, too tired to figure out where things went wrong. Good fic by the way.
Trollestia: Actually it belonged to silver lining but she defaulted on the tax payments and I foreclosed it on her. Also, you've missed several court dates and ignored several summons to hearings for trespassing and now have a warrant out for your arrest. I'm sure you can make bail though!
I'm going to read this for two reasons. First, because I see Bill Watterson. And good God do I love me some Calvin and Hobbes.
Second...
It's kind of sad, isn't it? The biggest shake-up in how Equestria is ruled in a millennium and what are the Press Corps focused on? The Princess of the Night's new sartorial choices! Of course, style always trumps substance to the press. No doubt there was a tiny sidebar by the Equestria Daily's legal editor on the reforms to the legal system but ten pages of full-colour pictures of Luna in her socks.
BTW, Luna - they look good on you; seriously! Don't be so quick to get rid of them! You might be thankful for them in winter! ![]()
BTW, Celstia... You and I both know that those socks are Twilight's colours, not yours. What are you saying by wearing them? ![]()
-sees calvin and hobbes adaptaion coverart-
instant like and fave
The Moon is Luna's!
Wow that was really good. One question though, in the story you have it down as
"It's dreadful," the slender, light-pink unicorn whispered in a quavering voice now husky from crying. "Simply dreadful."
O thought Fluer was white, or is the pink referring to the mane?
"Featured on Equestria Daily!"
> Be me

> Be even MORE Bitter at authors who flaunt EQD features
You know what? Gonna give this one a try. For funsies. It'll make it better when I thumb it down and never look back.
*read*
Aah, shit... It's ACTUALLY good >.<
Well done.
I'm pretty sure that, at least under British law, a verbal contract is non-binding except in pretty extreme circumstances but, given the difficulty Earth Ponies must necessarily have with writing, that might not be the case in Equestria.
Given the size of the Moon, I think just lowering it down to a hover about 1 mile above the Lining Estate would make her want to sell at any price. Imagine a 5000mi-diameter rock hanging over your head 24/7. ![]()
She spat the offending garments at the nearest pegasus guard.
"Your majesty," he said, as they bounced off his face.
Oh my god, that nearly killed me.
"Just curious. Did you just make up any of the other cornerstones of my reality?"
The two sisters looked at each other guiltily.
Okay, this story is simply hilarious. Thumbs up, 5 stars, and all of my love.
Was half expecting Luna to plan on dropping the moon on her house in three days.
I love'd the story, although I do wonder about making Luna so simple that the only thing she is worried about is owning the moon and not how she almost lost it
"Well of COURSE it's not going to work if the laws are made by IDIOTS!"
Lol, best line EVER.
Hahaha oh god, the fact that the press was more concerned about fashion over political affairs was definitely a lol worthy observation.
Reminds me alot of our society
thick manila folder full of affidavits, photographs of the event and its aftermath annotated with circles and arrows, and relevant case histories.
I see what you did there
But you forgot the paragraph describing everything written on the back of the photographs.
The cover pic gives me such nostalgia. I will read this fic and love it even if it sucks, which, gathering by the comments, there is no way in hell that's happening.
Wait...
If Celestia and Luna can basically make physical law their little bitch, then why couldn't Luna throw the spider far enough?
Oh, right, plot necessity. ![]()
In any case, a most enjoyable story thus far. Definitely looking forward to more.
So much sockmania! Btw the last image didn't really match the description on Celestia's socks. Still, really fun. Break the furnace XD
Celestia always wins. Well played, sir. ![]()
She doesnt even need supreme power or magic or nothing. You still cant compete vs millenia of experience.
Also is just me or this is subtle Twilestia? Twilight really looks and acts like a part of The Family.
"Why would I have legal counsel?" Celestia asked. "Until last week, the law was whatever I said it was."
That's a worrysome combination of Trollestia and Tyrantestia.
And the whole thing with Neighton's equations... hilarious!
A comedy fic that is actually laugh-out-loud, why-are-people-staring-at-me funny! This is a rare and satisfying treat. ![]()
Hilarious! Made me spit out my Coke Zero, which would otherwise be sacrilege.
~Sisters... Sisters... There were never such devoted sisters!
Never had to have a chaperon no sir!
I'm here to keep my eye on her!
Caring... Sharing... Every little thing that we are wearing;
When a certain gentlecolt arrived from Roam,
She wore the dress, and I stayed home!~
*Keeps humming the 'Sisters' song from White Christmas*
A wonderful story in most regards. I'm not so sure about your solution for their predicament with the moon (suffering through law studies, I don't think they should have it that easy), but it sure allowed for lols. The only thing I didn't like was the running gag with Twilight's rump hitting the floor. It just felt a little forced and didn't actually add anything to the story. I just picture this scene in my head, and it looks really akward, but not funny-akward. It's not that I'm against the principle of Twilight reacting this way to her world view being shattered, even repeatedly, but the intervals would have to be longer. My tailbone hurts just by reading this. ![]()
And this is why Equestria is a combination of a duumvirate (ruled by two) and a theocracy (ruled by a god/goddess or someone claiming to be guided by such). Equestria may also have a bit of a aristocracy (see Canterlot), but it's unconfirmed.
>>1145279 Of course Celestia loves tea. How could she not? ::ajlie::
>>1125938 Well done -- this one's an easy fave. I'm a sucker for good Celestia/Luna fics, but this one's got excellent depth as well as smart comedy. Just two comments:
1) Chapter 2 should start with "There thou art". Early Modern English grammar uses the same construction as today's English does. /pedant
2) When will we see Chapter 3, "Twlight Sparkle's Heresy Trial"? ![]()
... Three comments. I totally said three!
3) WAIT A SECOND. You're the same Bad Horse who wrote "Dark Demon King Ravenblood Nightblade." +watched.
For you, oh most wonderful author, I present a gift for Woona!
Thirsty? Here, have some Sweet Apple Acres Apple Juice! 8D
