A lovely little story, a nice look at both some depth for Rarity and for earth ponies in general.
BTW, the paragraph "Ever since I was a little filly, I've always loved putting on sparkly, lovely things on clothes and costumes, especially gems. Sapphires, rubies, the whole repertoire! And by magic, and I do mean Magic with a capital M, my horn literally dragged me to this tall rock." Seems like it might be missing a line or two. It sort of jumps.

I have read many stories, and about half of them have strange and/or funny ending lines, but THIS takes the cake/pie/fritter/assorted pastry as strangest, and is definitely an Honorable Mention for funniest.
