One point that I think was probably unintentional though: the implied insanity. Is the lone survivor actually having a chat with a cartoon character, or slowly spiralling down into the depths his own mind, desperate to escape from the situation he is in?

Speaking for myself, I LOVE psychological stories like that, but whatever your current intention is: keep at it - still loving it!

I enjoy a good psychological thriller as well. I intended to have the character think that he is going insane because of the disastrous situation. Twilight is really there however, any mention of insanity is purely an explanation of Earl's thoughts.

Personally, I'm hoping Earl will eventually snap. Maybe it will be from Twilight, maybe it will be from the apocalypse itself, but either way, I'm rooting for many, many zombies to be killed.

After all, he's only killed about 3 zombies so far. If you're gonna be the sole survivor of a zombie apocalypse, your body count should be much higher.

Twilight might mess up the spell and pull something from Equestria to earth on accident, thus bringing the rest of the mane 6 into the equation seeing as they're in the main character list, but the chances of the girls all being in the library at this particular time, at least two days after Twilight's disappearance might be a little bit unlikely. Not impossible though...

There's also the chance that, while Twilight doesn't have the energy to create a portal back to her world, the resulting connection between the two worlds, no matter how small, might give the princess a way to better find Twilight and get the rest of the elements to her.  What might possess her to send them rather than some highly trained unicorn mage, I don't know... but it's still a possibility.

Finally the spell could fizzle out, thus leaving Twilight stranded and our hero stuck with an army of undead plus a dead tired unicorn.
