lydia got aproximately 10-20 deaths per hour (for me). RD isn't even close to that
also j'zargo (the mage) is MUCH more loyal than lydia. he also does it of free will! not to mention that he is exactly as cocky as RD!

the reason everyone say lydia always die is because most use her as a packmule, giving her junk. combine this with foolhardy playstyle and you got kamikaze
also there were a bug that prevented followers from leveling up fter you met them. this forced many to get stuck with lvl 1-10 lydia when they were lvl 30+

I never use Lydia so she's like very weak. She dies alot for me. But my brother IS married to Lydia, does that make her level up more or something?

916731 likely, yes. marring someone temporarily dismisses them as followers. this reset their stats, and thus leveling them up to your lvl.
there is also a few mods who fix the leveling. if you play on PC that is.
