That... wasn't so bad. But the romantic ending felt really awkward. And I don't feel much of a pull to find out what happens next.
I think in stories where the character's emotions are very important (virtually all romance), you need quite a bit of monologue or some other way to demonstrate their feelings, and this could use a lot of that.
