The Dreams Never End
A crumpled and torn scrap of parchment lies next to the ruins of an old campfire. Small pools of water surround it, staining the edges, but leaving most of the contents clear for all to see.
I truly hope that people never stop dreaming. How else are we supposed to keep going? Dreams are what we strive to bring to life. Whether it be to start a kingdom free of tyranny, to explore the world, or to just make yourself a better person, it all starts with a single dream. When I started Traveling, it all began with a simple dream I had in the middle of the night, and escalated into something incredible. And now, here I am, sharing not only my story, but more importantly, the stories of others with you.
Dreams. How do you even begin to describe one? Do you say that it’s a system of images that your brain will provide in your head, acting on a message from your subconscious? Whenever I’ve asked a psychic, they’ll tell me that I’m seeing the future, and offer to interpret it for me. If I tell a scientist, they’ll offer to hook me up to a machine in another futile attempt to determine where dreams truly come from, and WHY they even come in the first place.
I’ll be honest. I never really cared for those things. I don’t care about predicting the future, because I’ll live out all futures eventually. I don’t need to know why dreams happen, because that’s part of the grand mystery that makes them so appealing.
And maybe that’s why everyone is as scared of dreams as they are attracted to them. They’re afraid of what they don’t know. It’s a sad fact of life, but the unknown does scare the vast majority of people. Dreams are sort of the halfway point between us, and the unknown. In them, we can see the unknown, and attempt to put a semblance of sense to it. We see things we don’t understand, and sometimes can’t even hope to comprehend. We see life, death, love, happiness, sorrow, anger, friends, enemies, family. We see our memories, and our past, present, and future.
We see everything, and nothing in our dreams. And they guide us to do the fantastic. We dream of something greater, and set out to make them come true, the odds be damned! Look at every single kingdom, or successful person you see, and ask them what started it all. No matter what they say, just remember how a single, simple dream was the first thing in their hearts.
Dreams are what started everything. More importantly, WE are the ones who choose to give them meaning. No one else can decide that for us, no matter how hard they try.
That's what matters in the end.
Philosophical ramblings aside, Scorch and I should be reaching Canterlot by-
The rest is illegible, covered in soot and dirt.

Wait, so is the story continuing? Or was this the end. PLEASE CELESTIA DON'T LET IT BE THE END!!!
that was deep :/ I will admit being scared of the unknown but i'm also VASTLY intrigued by it, but that aside i can't wait for more of the story ^.^
I haven't had a dream that could be desirable by anyone in such a long time... ![]()
Can't wait for the rest of the story, though! ![]()
Dreams are indeed what keep us going, no matter what we're trying to do.
Well said, Nathan.
I feel such a strange warmth in my chest as I read this, as though deep in my demented brain there is a tiny speck of my consciousness knows that everything he just said was 100% true..... hmm. The idea that your existence is dwarfed by a web of universes much larger and complex than you can comprehend is truly humbling. Something about facing such a vast expanse of dimensionless deepness.......
