fallen starr

How can I be home and still feel out of place.

E

Sunset Shimmer is faced with something she hadn't cared so much about. Life after High School. With her friends making plans to attend different schools, some far from Canterlot High, and a growing homesickness, Sunset isn't sure where to turn. She decides to return home and restart her life as a pony, but sometimes home isn't what we think it is.

Ah the trials and tribulations of leaving High School and getting ready for college. I remember those days, though by then i was already locked into my choice in going to College. Though i can certainly sympathize with Sunset in her moods right now. An Alien in an Alien world, who doesn't feel homesick at times.

I must say for a first outing this is not bad, transitions are a bit choppy and i would like a tighter focus on what exactly is going on and where this places in the EQG world. But overall a valid start, 7.5/10

Good start, I think. I always like the idea of Sunset living with Principal Celestia when it's done beliveably and plausibly. Plus I've always had this little bit of headcanon that the portal only works for things that have magic in them, so seeing mention of this idea here was a nice surprise. I'm interested where this will go.

Only one thing I disagree with, I don't see Cinch being vindictive enough to screw up Twilight's future without anything to gain from the act.

I don't know if I like the way u set celestia up as sunsets guardian yet knowing the history they have. But, with that said I don't think it was wrong ether for what the story is and hope sunset will get guidence from bough Celestia's if u plan to have her stay with bough of them. So fare I like the story and the question it bring about, and is something all friends go through and think about. One more thing I hope something like this becomes cannon in the show and movies because as one of many fans, expecialy of Sunsets, I know I would like this to come up and see how they are going tires love the issue to close off the movie arc. That is if they do before they end the series.

There will come a time where once Sunset graduates from CHS she will come to that crossroad of her career.

7582059 Thank you! I'm glad you've liked it alright so far. This chapter was near the end of their senior year. I'm sorry about the transitions, if you have advice on how to blend them better, I'm more than open to it. Anything that'll make my writing improve is welcome. But yes, thank you for the comment and liking the story.

7582074 Yeah, I rather like the idea of having Sunset living with Celestia, and I actually do plan to eventually write a one-shot about it happening, although I'm not sure it would be 'canon' to this story. It's just a thought I've had for a while, and it works really well with what I'm wanting to do with this story. As far as Cinch, well, she won't get anything out of it, but call it petty revenge. Twilight denied her what she wanted, so she is denying Twilight something.

7582118 Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Sorry parts of it threw you, but I think that if you give it an chance it'll work out in a way you might like.

7582212 And that's what this story is about. Thank you for reading!

7583394 Guess I just never pegged Cinch as someone who would care about petty revenge, but hey, it's a minor thing in the story so whatevs. :derpytongue2:

Oh yeah, this is a story that needs to be told by the folks in charge. For now, though, I look forward to more of your version of it.

7584407 Eh, I've known similar people as well and my experience is the opposite of that. Guess it comes down to different interpretations of Cinch in particular. I just can't see it. Heck, even Cadance in FG said that Cinch would most likely "fast track" the application or whatever, just to get someone with a possible grudge removed from CPA. She wouldn't want to anger them even further, it serves literally no purpose to her, and she's very goal-oriented. Antagonising Twilight after FG is counter-productive for her.

You've got a good start. This is an interesting conflict with Sunset and her dual life. I've unfortunately not seen past the first EqG, so I can't comment on possible future paths, but I'll be keeping my eye on this.

7585258
7584423
You both have really good points for what Cinch would do. My line of thinking was Twilight is already gone from Crystal Prep, but Cinch has a tarnished reputation and Twilight is, at least in Cinch's mind, getting everything she wanted. With no reasonable expectation of backlash, when Cinch received the call from Everfree asking about the possible income college freshman Twilight Sparkle, she decided to ah, return the favor. At least those are my thoughts.

7584596 Oh, you should watch Friendship Games, it is my favorite one. I wasn't really thrilled with the first or second one, but I watch the third one a lot. Well, comparatively. Anyway, I'm glad you like it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

7586027  It really does come down to different intepretations of a character, doesn't it? I've been doing my share of character exploration of Cinch (my only two stories on this site are about her), so I guess I'm just way too used to my take to be able to imagine different ones. Needless to say, she never appeared vindictive or petty enough to do that to me, and heck, I don't even think she goes away from FG blaming Twilight for everything. But since she was vague enough in the movie, I understand it's possible to have a different vision of her that would still fit all of her actions in the movie but have a different personality from what I assumed she was like. Sorry if I'm being tedious about this :fluttershyouch: (and hey it's just a tiny nitpick in the end, not really important to the story at large which is cool :ajsmug: ), but as I said, Cinch was what got me into writing. (Also, FG is my favorite EqG movie too, though not being thrilled with the second one seems kinda crazy! :rainbowhuh: )

Interesting chapter. I enjoyed reading Sunset's feelings about her graduation and how she feels about this event in her life.

She's got a useless diploma and will be lonely

To bad there isn't a degree that can carry over to Equestria.

Ok I have to say Sea Salt u pulled it off. I thought u where going to have celestia as a mentor and have sunset living with her as something she had to do. But, u blow my mind with this chapter!!! I loved how u set up Celestia's and sunset's relationship in this as more of a mother and daughter then a teacher and student. I can see the how the build up in this chapter by its self how hard the final choice is going to be for sunset in the end. Cant wait to read more.

7589805 I'm glad you enjoyed it so far, and I hope the rest doesn't disappoint.

7589902 Eh, we'll see. I mean, the diploma isn't entirely useless. it's great kindling if an apocalypse happens.

7589942 I mean, there might be for college, but since this is just high school, it isn't really much.

7590155 I'm happy you're liking the story so far. I look forward to seeing what you think about the rest of it as it updates.

Wow that was kind of an...abrupt goodbye to Principal Celestia.

Still I can't wait to see what happens next.

Wait a minute... did Sunset take her journal back to Equestria? Did not it means that now the portal is closed??

Ouch principle celestia denied. I can't blame sun set for not noticing with everything she has going on in her head, but celestia could have said something before sunset left to let her know hoe much see cared about her. But I like the way it was left beck use it sets things up for when sunset goes back to the human world and I like the confusion she is allready having in Equestria

7593293 about the Journal for the fact that is not what connects the worlds b cause the portal already dose that. But the connection Magic the journal has is what opens the portal between worlds when the portal is not open its self or that is at least what I get out of the cannon.

7593283 yes, it is. It has a purpose though. Thanks, I'll finish the next chapter as soon as I can.

7593293 Ah, well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. But yes, both journals are now in Equestria. (No, the portal isn't closed, that isn't really much of a secret.)

7593561 I'm glad you're enjoying it and getting into the story. :) And you're right, if sunset goes back, it could be interesting

Why didn't human Celestia just say what she really wants? Adoption.

7594060 Complicated reasons I'm going to try to address later.

She is going to return back to the Equestria Girls world I bet. That is where she was more happy I bet and hopefully that Celestia will welcome her back with open arms.

7595180 Yeah, she's returning to the eqg world. I already have chapter five written, so it'll be up for reading sometime on Tuesday.

Fitting music:

I realize it wouldn't have fit with the pacing, but I really would've loved to witness some of the initial interactions between Sunset and the other ponies, especially Starlight... :fluttercry:

7595775 yeah, I did actually try to write them. I had Sunset trying to do things with the mane six and starlight, and even her and starlight talking about their pasts, and Sunset slowly realizing that these ponies weren't really her friends. Just ponies that sorta looked like them. But it really slowed down the whole thing and while I intended that to be my original pace, it didnt mesh well with the rest of the story.

7596070 Well, I respect your dedication to having a more literarily proper story and not giving in to self-indulgent padding and filler. :ajsmug: Though I personally eat up self-undulgent padding and filler as long as it's about characters I like interacting in mildly interesting ways. :twilightblush:

I have to agree with Super Bowl that bonus chapters would be nice. Like how she came up with going back to Equestria, because of how her friends where acting about collage being a diving force, and some of that three week spans spent in Equestria that starts to drive her to want to go back to the human world. And if u do one for principle celestia on her fealings about sunset leaving and how see was holding up while she is gone would be nice.

For this chapter it was good. I mean I like how sunsets is up set from the get go in this chapter and makes you feal something else is on her mind the hole time, but like the show this chapter just felt rushed. In my opinion this chapter should have been slown down a little expressly when she was talking to princess celestia. I mean it just seams like if sunset had a longer conversation about the human world before her apifiny.

Well with those thoughts out of the way I have this story all together is turning out to be amazing. Ya I have my complaints but they are miner and the way it is done keeps me wanting to come back and read the newest chapter as soon as it comes out. So keep up the good work Sea Salt and I will defiantly keep coming back for more.

7596539 Thank you! I'll be posting the last chapter soon. I understand what you're saying, and I know I would do the entire story differently if I had the patience to go back and do it, but I don't at the moment. I guess that's just something the future will have to see about.

Home is where your heart is. Sunset just needed to find where her heart laid to find where she belongs.

Do we get to see a sequel? I want to see more of how Sunset's life develops, and the mother she now has.

Yay happy sappy ending, and the start of a underhanded and minuplitive twilight. Got to say I didn't see that twist coming and I am happy they all found a way to stay together. Oh ya I almost forgot in your story did celestia ever officially adopt sunset because I don't remember that being stated just sort of implyed, sort of?

Would it be so unthinkable or be such a betrayal of her friends if Sunset wanted to finish her Master's degree in magic? With the way the arcane is spreading through the human world in subtle and insidious ways, the knowledge could easily be one of the most important things she could learn.

I'm sort of surprised that they got Twilight up on that stage without her having a breakdown. Still, if she's anything like her pony counterpart, we know that she's best at speaking when she's speaking from her heart.

No, they're not totally identical. They're on average about 6 years older and are accomplished adults.

Actually, there almost certainly is a human Starlight Glimmer and, given what we've seen so far, she is probably on a bad path simply because the human doppelgängers seem to start from the same point and then progress from there; this can be a bad thing without the influence of the Bearers of the Elements to get them off of bad paths. The only good part of this is that she is unlikely to have access to much magic and certainly won't be the terrifyingly powerful dark witch trying to find her way back to the light that we see in the show.

Don't think for a moment that you have betrayed or disappointed Celestia, Sunset. You see... I suspect that she knew that she'd get this response and, more importantly, I suspect that she agrees with you about what you first, best destiny may be.

Yeah, I'm not surprised by this ending. It's still a good one, though.

Here's the thing that a lot of fans tend to miss: Sunset doesn't have any emotional bonds with Equestria. Even her relationship with Princess Celestia must necessarily be strained by how her ambitions and arrogance prevented her from forming any serious emotional bonds before Twilight defeated her at the end of Equestria Girls. Actually, I think it would be fair to say that Twilight is Sunset's only serious emotional connection to Equestria. I agree that she would want to formally apologise to Celestia and make her peace with her old teacher but I don't think that they ever made the same connection that Twilight did with the Princess.

The simple fact is that almost all of Sunset's friends and the really emotionally and spiritually meaningful connections Sunset has are in the human world. Apart from the issue of magic (something that the writers are rapidly setting aside as the EqG series progresses) there is very little to attract Sunset back through the mirror now she's given up her dreams of power.

So, as you can tell, I think that this is a nicely-thought-out and very well-considered story that gets Sunset as well as her likely thoughts and feelings just right. Nice job!

This clearly that title is inprised by something, can't my hand on it

Nice. Always love proper human emotion-having normal-age non-regal-voice Celestia. Despite her affection for Sunset being completely new from the movies, she still felt like herself, and Luna too, heck, everyone else too. Great little slightly-bitter-mostly-sweet story!

Princess Celestia smiled, looking down at Sunset. “Tell me more.”

the rise of Xenolestia xD

This was AMAZING. A very good coming-of-age fic... Very well done.
