Past

They say that there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel, but for some of us that isn’t always the case. It is us few that have to create our own light, so we can share it with others. No matter how badly we are beaten, broken, and hated we need to keep our heads up high. If we don’t, then we die. Not just physically... emotionally.

Luna and I were raised in a very poor area. Mother and Father had very little, and it was difficult to get us the things we needed. Father had been busy with his friends, and was rarely around. Mother could care less about us. After all, we were just two blank flank unicorn fillies. We weren’t anything special.

Day after day Luna and I would watch the sun and moon circle the horizon. They hadn’t rose into the high sky since a wizard cast a spell on them, in hopes that he could control them. Unfortunately it ended with the opposite effect.

After starting school I am ashamed to admit that I had always been that popular one. The mare that everypony wanted to be friends with, just so they could say they were friends with me. I received high grades in all top classes, and had always been considered the smart one. I received some negativity for being a blank flank, but that was about it.

Woona hadn’t been so lucky.

She had been the creative one, the silly fun one. She was different, and everypony held her to the same standards as they held for me. I believe that is when her jealousy started. She wouldn’t receive some negativity, but full hatred. She always believed that she was never good enough, and soon she stopped trying to impress everypony. Luna became isolated, and never made friends. We were day and night, but in my arrogance I couldn’t see how much it hurt her.

A couple times I even laughed at her for it. I had been disappointed in her because I couldn’t understand the way she viewed the world. I thought she needed to try harder, and act more like I did. I was wrong though.

One day when I was twenty, and Luna eight, our Mother burst into our room, and she was very angry. She picked Luna up in her aura and threw her against the wall, breaking her front leg. It was then I finally understood the reality of the hatred Luna had felt since she were a filly.

Angry and terrified, I stepped in between Mother and Luna; to prevent her from hurting my little sister further. It ended with a fight. After a couple of minutes I took Luna and ran, while Mother laid unconscious on our bedroom floor. I ran as far as I could until I reached a place that we were forbidden from entering...Everfree Forest.

We wanted to get through the forest, to a place we had never been to before. To a place that we hoped was safe, and away from the discord of our town. I protected us from any creatures looking for a meal, and Luna taught me how to have fun. To be kinder, and open my heart up to others. That the world isn’t all about proving how smart and strong you are. We developed a strong sisterly relationship during that time, but I know she could never forget everything that I did to her.

After a month of traveling and camping, we finally arrived at a large piece of land. There had been a small farming family living there already. Needless to say they were surprised to see Luna and I. They took us into their home, into their family and took care of us. I was extremely ecstatic to see Luna so happy, since it had been one of the very few times she experienced pony kindness. I wanted her the cherish it, and not live in the past.

One day, Luna and I got into a fight and out of anger Luna ran away. I found her a couple hours later in a cave that she played in the day before we arrived at our new home. The only difference was this time, a tree covered in six gems stood inside of the cave. Neither of us knew where it had come from but when both of us touched it...it started glowing.

The gems flew off of the tree, and circled both of us. A vision of us helping each other appeared with bright flashes of colors. After watching the visions replay over and over again, we started to understand that each gem represented something different. We had figured out that purple represents magic, red loyalty, orange honesty, blue laughter, pink generosity, and green kindness. We later named them the Elements of Harmony.

After the rush of the elements ended, we fell unconscious. When we woke up we discovered we had wings, and our bodies were different. We were taller, thinner, our manes and tails were flowing and our horns were longer. We were terrified at first, and unable to control our power for a while. Not knowing what else to do we went back to the farm, and naturally upon seeing us they were all amazed. After the initial shock ended, a little filly nicknamed us Alicorns and the name stuck.

The next morning, I felt extremely warm. I couldn't understand why, and what had been making me feel so hot. So I cast a simple detecting spell to find the source, only to discover that it had been the sun. Increasing my magic I was amazed, when I could feel my magic touch the sun. A few moments later, It had started to rise off of the horizon and slowly lift into the sky.

The family raced into my bedroom, as I fell to my rump in exhaustion. Everypony stood in shock, staring at me...then the sun...and back to me. All except for Luna, who had been overjoyed. Not understanding why, I looked down to where she had been pointing.

I had my cutie mark

Later that night Luna decided to try and raise the moon, despite her exhaustion from a long day of work. After several failed attempts she gave up and went to bed. Luna couldn’t help but stay wide awake though, watching the moon. When morning came and I raised the sun again, Luna finally had managed to fall asleep. When she woke up though, she told me about a really weird dream that she had. She was in a hallway with thousands of doors, and a couple of them glowed. When she went through the first door she saw a colt, and it looked like he had been having a bad dream.

The colt had found himself inside of a house that was engulfed in flames. Luna raced in and pulled the colt out, before calming him down with a soothing lullaby. A couple weeks later a gypsy tribe appeared, and Luna immediately recognized the colt running up to her. It had been the same one from her dream.

Running up he couldn’t help but hug Luna He kept thanking her for helping him during his nightmare, and that he hadn’t had any more since then. He couldn’t have been much younger then Luna at the time, but it still warmed her heart. Luna began doing it every night, and still does to this day.

Later that night, Luna couldn’t help but feel really cold. It didn’t matter how many blankets she had covering her. Annoyed, Luna walked over to see what was causing her to be so cold on a warm summer day; and found the moon directly in front of her. The more she watched it...the more awake she felt.

Instinctively she charged her horn and reached out with her magic to touch the moon. With one final tug, Luna was astonished to discover that she started to raise the moon. I couldn’t help but laugh how Luna had been more ecstatic to raise the moon, then then she was to finally receive her cutie mark. It had been the other way around with me,

As the days went on, more and more ponies received word about the sisters who were able to raise the sun and moon. With their help, we managed to build the Castle of the Two Sisters, where everypony stayed in until they could build their own homes. The farmers that took us in were overjoyed. They were able to feed the town, and in return the ponies that started to cultivate what is now known as Equestria, gave them supplies and new types of food to try.

A few years later, the town had asked up to join them for a meeting. It was then that they had announced that they wanted us to be the rulers. The princesses of Equestria. At first we had refused, saying that the farmers who were there first should be in charge. The farmers, as honored as they were, refused the offer. Telling us that we were the rightful rulers.

We agreed. After that Luna and I stayed at the Castle in Everfree, but every morning we made sure to pay a visit to the town and see if they needed anything. Soon that became increasingly more difficult as more and more ponies started coming. So in return we started hosting court. Since I slept at night, I hosted day court. Since Luna slept during the day, she hosted night court. Unfortunately, it was extremely rare for a pony to show up for Luna’s night court.

With the town becoming increasingly larger, we decided to have some of them move to the mountain area There they had more room for them to spread out, and the town wouldn't be so overwhelmed.. With that, ninety percent of the ponies moved and started building what is now known as Canterlot.

A little over a hundred years later, I had believed everything to be going smoothly. There had been a couple of creatures that thought we were weak such as Discord and Tirek, and Luna and I were able to use the elements to stop them. Sadly I started returning to my old ways of thinking, and I didn’t notice how badly Luna had become again.

Then one day she turned into Nightmare Moon, and I knew I failed her once more. We had fought and I ended up having to banish my own sister to the moon. An act that I can never forgive myself for.

The civilians of Canterlot, and the farming town now known as Ponyville, had suggested that I moved to Canterlot instead of staying in Everfree. I agreed and soon Canterlot Castle had been built.

Things were never the same after that. I started up Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns in order to help give back for everything they have done for me. To give to the next generation. The rest of the time just seemed to blur together. That is until nine hundred and eighty years later, when things finally started to turn around. I started teaching a student personally by the name of Sunset Shimmer.

Ultimately Sunset Shimmer had ran away a couple years later, and i felt like I had failed again. Then a young protégé by the name of Twilight Sparkle fell into my lap. I started taking care of that filly more and more, and it started to fill the hole inside my heart. A hole that appeared after Luna’s banishment.

Twelve years later, Twilight and her friends helped return Luna to me,

Things will never be the same as it was before I had to banish my little sister to the moon, but we’re starting anew in our beautiful and amazing home we call Equestria.

Love it!!!

It's under my to review list. I will inform you once its done.:twilightsheepish:

This is a Twilight's Reviews review

Here is a grammar mistake I found:

After all, we were just two blank flank unicorn fillys.

"Fillys" is spelled as "fillies".

I must say, I was intrigued by the story by the way you wrote the long description. You put a lot of depth in Celestia's character and wrote her exactly the way she was meant to be. This story deserves a like, well done.

7551468 Thank you  It was a lot of fun to write.
Fixing that now :twilightsheepish:
