Equestria has been a land of peace in a world that has slowly forgotten that their plowshares were once swords. But that peace is far more fragile than at first it appears, and when the world races towards war, only two sisters can stop the seemingly inevitable.

But there is a cost to dealing in power and influence, and with long life and responsibility comes great sorrow. As the warclouds grow dark and heavy over an unprepared world, two sisters must face their own memories of loss and prepare their young counterparts for what may come.

Loosely apart of the Songverse/Nightverse. No knowledge of any of the stories in that continuity is required to understand this one.

My old ps2 game, Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix. I changed my license plate, and since there was a hand and a heart symbol you could use, I put I love hand jobs.

7388325 hmmmmm seems familiar...but I can't quite put my finger on who it's made by....:trollestia:

7388384 I have no idea how this connects but the inexplicable nature of it is delightful

7388396 I give random comments to random people at random times for random reasons.

I am reminded again why I love your writing. There's just something about how craft your words that is wholly enthralling.

Mmm. Love me some political intrigue starring best princess.

Hold the Luna Hammer High, Never Turn Away!

That was exactly what I thought before I explored the chapter.

I really like your prose, and your story's premise is interesting. Makes me think of what my story will become eventually.

Musical influences? Excellent choices. I'll be tracking this story.......... now.

This looks delicious, I think I might faint.

Posted this before reading your authors note, I promise.

7389148 a likely story, brunnen of G

Awwwww yessssssssssss. I'm so excited for this story!! I absolutely adore the Song-verse so I'm keen to see another story that takes place in it. I love your prose, and I love how you write the sister dynamic between Luna and Celestia, so this is off to a great start!

What is the Songverse, and what is the Nightverse?

7390343 The Songverse started some time in 2012 with "Where the Sun is Silent" and was really a very loose continuity of stories kinda centered around the aftermath of that story and the relationship/eventual marriage of Rainbow and Rarity.

This is the best one-- "Catch For Us the Little Foxes". It's the second written. If you want to read them chronologically I can provide an order.

The "Song" originally was a joke based on the fact that most of the titles were from Song of Solomon, a book of the bible that is all erotic poetry. Later, as the continuity bled over into other stories, I began to repeat certain motifs, images, events, character habits and stuff. (Rarity and Dash, Applejack singing and eventually having a pipe that Twilight had gifted her/enchanted for her, shared "mythic" elements that were very downplayed and distant most of the time, a certain repeated joke, lots of things) and eventually it mutated into a tangled web of stories that are either directly in continuity but more often are parallel to one another. Like alternate worlds. Beneath them all is a shared myth--the Song, which sang the world into being and which was the prime cause of all things, and which the Alicorns sang when the world was in its infancy on their primitive table land.

Nightverse is the same thing, just sort of specifically that "version" in The Night is Passing, which is the biggest epicenter of the tangled web of my mythologizing.

This was such a longwinded answer. Sheesh.

Things generally were civil—it helped that Equestria guaranteed Prance’s freedom, but there was little need to fight Griffonstone ruled vast swaths of land filled with mineral wealth

I... think there's some punctuation missing, here?

“If thou were in your true demense, then would it would be I awake before you, Nightwalker.”

I'm not sure if that's an archaic form or a whoops. :rainbowlaugh:

I know I wasn’t… I… she was my friend to.

"too".

Nitpicking aside, are you the reincarnation of Tolkien or something, Cynewulf? Reading your prose is like to someone having sex with my language centers. :rainbowlaugh:

MOON HAMMER MAGICKS

Wonderfully written. Your tone and language give it a very ancient feeling. I can't really say how much I enjoyed reading this little snippet.

I wishfully await for the next part of this story.

I love these walks down the lanes of the Princesses' past. You are an amazing world and lore builder.

Myeessss....ponies in armor...glorious.:pinkiehappy:

Ugh the world building in this is so good. There is such a wonderful weight to Luna's words -- it gives a sense of her age, and the magnitude of being so long lived. (also I was pretty pumped to see the Pratchett reference with this chapter's title! I adore Discworld, and that title suits Luna so well)

Keep up the good work!

I will be very interested to see what kind of armor Twilight ends up with, and what kind of weapon she wields. Or if she ends up with armor and/or weapons at all.

Perhaps Luna will forge her something.

7390620 It would be great if you provided an chronological order of stories in the Songverse.

7462577 I used to have one, but most of the stories were sort of not really being read anymore and it felt like clutter.

I've restored it and added a lot to it.

I have very much enjoyed what you've gotten done with this story so far. The ancient armory buried within the confines of some mountain is a bad ass concept I've never encountered. I think I might incorporate bits of that idea into my current story, if you aren't mindful of me doing so :raritywink:

7473372 Ideas are meant to be used

I'm borrowing from myself--the Armory comes from the Forge in The Night is Passing where it was a birthday gift from Celestia of a forge with a piece of Luna's... soul, one could say, infused in it. Or an echo. Or or or. It's unclear. Its lacunae.

Don't know if this one has that.

7473393 Funny, long ago I wrote a short story about Luna's birthday where she receives an extravagant set of armor as a gift; then later, in private, she's gifted an equally extravagant sword.

Hell, I've been borrowing since I started my 'career' here. My largest story, Beneath The Sun's Surface, takes inspiration HEAVILY, I mean REALLY HEAVILY from a fic called The Death Of Princess Luna. Overall plot details are fairly identical, which was somewhat unintentional.

When I saw this featured ages ago I instantly thought of that tyr song. Now that I finally got around to reading this and I see it referenced :yay:

Yo this story turned out really good m8. Digging it a lot so far.

Alternate universe or not, those two are still adorable together.

Oh I like these two.

I know I wasn’t… I… she was my friend to.

Should that be 'too'?

This certainly looks like a splendid tale - I can't wait to see where it will go.

I don't know who these tow are, but I already like them. I feel as if I know them - they work so well and feel so natural in the story.

7754767 alternate universe versions of them can be found in Night!

7754801 You have an AU version of everything, don't you?:trixieshiftright:
