This story is about Derpy growing up with her parents and each chapter focused on a time she has a new experience. Starting out with her birth as a newborn foal. Follow along as Derpy grows up and matures in Equestria. She will be dealing with many issues such as her special eyes, and other problems any filly encounters on their journey to marehood. For this story I'm going to use average ages for when a human child will experience certain things biologically. Such as learning to walk, talk, teething, their first memory etc...

As one who was born with an ocular condition, I would like to compliment you on having so properly handled writing the one Derpy could be afflicted from. You certainly have done a lot of justice for those of us with ocular disabilities by showing how loving parents can really make the difference in coping with working around a physical limitation.

I was born with Glaucoma. It has been gradually robbing me of all my vision since the day I was born and I officially lost all ability to physically see this past year.

I do hope you continue this story. It is the first that I have found that gives a true feeling of what it is like to have a visual handicap. I can't tell you how, before I lost usable sight, how many times I'd reach for something that wasn't there. I also fight frustration regularly for needing help with things I once did not. (Like Derpy with her Bubble Train)
Starburst Vision reminds me of something associated with the Retina. Does it seem like your condition is well managed?
7896015 well my condition isn't getting worse. So I'd guess it's well managed.
That is good news to hear. :) I'll certainly be always hoping for the best as, truly, no amount of mental preparation nor training can truly have you 100% ready to be totally blind. Definitely make sure that, if anything seems off, to talk to your eye doctor ASAP. Better to error in worry than let something spiral out of control.
I'll continue to enjoy your story. Thanks for showing respect to Derpy by allowing her to have her handicap. There's nothing wrong with having one and I know you'll write this tale to reflect how a disability in Equestria makes you more than a background pony. :)
