Dads are never hard to please, and Dads are hard to get to smile. Sometimes it's hard to know your Dad loves you, but a true Dad always comes through in the end. An alternate universe of "Broken Spirit", in which Aegeus and Astraia had not been killed by Discord and were in fact the ones to stone him. You MUST have read "Broken Spirit" up to chapter nine to understand any of this.

Oh... Now I've GOT to finish up Broken Spirit ASAP! Already watching you, so there's not as much reason to mark this for later, but I'll do so anyways, to be sure!

The story image made me smile.

My dad was a lazy bastard back in the day.

767613 all you need really is to read up to chapter nine~

767968 My Dad abandoned me. ;_; So I like writing fics where fathers love their children.

It's hard not to love how, for every "evil" antagonist, there are suggestions and ideas that they turned bad, and weren't born as such. For Nightmare Moon, more lovingly known as Princess Luna, this is exactly the case.

For Discord, it seems everyone wants to believe that he started out as a quirky, weird, misfit, etc. childhood friend of Celestia that turned rotten at some point. Your story makes his theorized relationship with Tia all the more deeper, and although casting him in a moodier role, it follows the (broken) spirit of things, where few villains, if any, are NOT the result of friendship gone awry.

I like such thinking, specifically finding ways to apply the show's theme to connect everything in a believable way. The optimism in the show and all things related, including the fandom, is so incredibly high, and for me, it's yet to have been a bad thing. Even Queen Chrysalis, arguably the darkest and most brutal villain in the show, has had her motives boiled down to doing what it takes for her children, the Changelings, to not only survive, but prosper.

It doesn't stop those like Trixie, Gilda, and the Flim Flam brothers from being jerks, though.

768061dude, feels. :ajsleepy: but remember! always someone worse off than you.

I read this thinking it was a alt ending to The Last Draconequus, man that was A BIG mistake

768909........c: Did you like it regardless?

I'm a tad confused, not gonna lie. I mean, is this the afterlife or something, 'cause you have the parents, Celestia, and Luna, then you have Fluttershy there, and that throws me off, considering what I know of Broken Spirit's timeline.

866990 Story description: An alternate universe of "Broken Spirit", in which Aegeus and Astraia had not been killed by Discord and were in fact the ones to stone him.

867007 I see... Still, he was stoned for so many centuries? And he still looks up to them as parents? If I was in him place, I would flying for the hills instead of sticking around! Screw causing chaos! Screw Equestria! I'm not sticking around in a land where the idea of being grounded amounts to being turned to stone! :pinkiegasp::twilightoops:

867044 XD Well, I mean in "Broken Spirit" he was stoned and forgave Celestia and Luna eventually and they all become a family at the end after a lot of difficulties, so it's the same thing with his parents. Only...the rift between his father and him is still pretty strong.

867075 Still, it would be an interesting oneshot for this collection, wouldn't it? When they see the statue being gone, instead of chaos and disharmony like they expected, everything would still be calm and normal...
Cut to an utterly miserable Discord flying over the horizon as far away from Canterlot as he can.

867119Oh, that's sad. Yeah, I could see that being one of the alternatives for what he'd do. In my mind though up until his rehabilitation moments with Fluttershy he'd probably try to get revenge on all that hurt him.

867135 Lol. Aw, I would have liked to see that.... but your fic, not mine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in FF.net, you also wrote something similar for one Lord Shen?:trollestia: Yeah, I have an account with a different name there.

867155HA, yep. XD "Redeeming Light" was finished loooong ago, but holy shit, it got popular. Everyone in the KFP fandom seemed to know it for a while. I'm always attracted to the villains because there's just so many possibilities. Of course, Discord was a little harder to work with. I knew he couldn't completely change, but I wanted to find my own way to redeem him.

867164
Yeah, in my mind, I didn't actually picture Discord being fully redeemed, either, Cryssy. That suggestion I made... basically, he could go through the phases of fury. Sadness, Anger, Regret, Frustration, and Vengeance.

867183 Ha, well he did, really, in that order. I mean even when he was warming up to Fluttershy he still wanted to get revenge on the princesses and was eagerly awaiting his full powers to unleash hell once more. I think in the order he went through Anger, Frustration, Vengeance, Regret, Anger, Frustration, Vengeance, Regret, Sadness.

867194 Lol. I see... still, this is an alternate universe, right? It just wouldn't do to have everything work out EXACTLY like it did in Broken Spirit.:ajsmug:

867217 Well the only alternate universe part it has is the king and queen still being alive, really. XD This takes place exactly after "Broken Spirit" where Discord moves in with the princesses, but is moving in with his parents as well.

But the "Brave" like fic I'm working on with Aegeus and Discord certainly isn't a very happy one

867226 Never saw Brave. I saw "Ted", instead.

867243 Oh. :D Well it's amazing. It's online in terrible quality, but it's still online. I saw it in theaters

867248
Heh. Never watch Ted. Just... don't. It truly is Seth McFarlene's work, let's put it that way.
Also, the fact they're alive can send ripples through the timestream. Think about it. Is Discord sealed in stone for as long as canon, or do they allow him out early.

Also take into consideration that your portrayal of Discord seemed to believe he deserved to be imprisoned by his sisters, while with this version... He likes pranks and chaos, but I can see that he now visibly fears them, regardless of that touching sparring scene.

867294 He has mixed feelings about the imprisonment. To his knowledge, Celestia doesn't even know about the murder from thousands of years ago, so he hates the fact he was imprisoned for "livening things up", but it does alter to believing he deserved it sometimes because of what he did. He nearly loses his mind when Celestia tells him she always knew, and tries to kill her in...I think chapter 13, right after the basilisk attack.

It's more so feeling uncomfortable about being near the girls than it is a fear. I mean, he leaves his parent's forest because he can't bear to be there after what he's done, and he has to be dragged to the cemetery to finally have closure. But in the epilogue everything is laid to rset. No more blame, no more dwelling, no more sadness as they all move on. He becomes a third guardian of Equestria, and soon becomes a king, but he doesn't have much authority. He can make suggestions as a king, but Luna and Celestia are the ones with the final decision. He's given his own kingdom in the sequeal, a realm called "Disarray", and it's a realm of disorder and chaos, so he's perfect for it. XD

However, Celestia and Luna let him have his fun in Equestria one day out of the week (or else he has to play in Disarray). Every Saturday he's allowed to cause three spreads of harmless chaos in Equestria. Say, in Ponyville it could be raining sugar, and in Canterlot the trees could be the colors of rainbow. He still has a bit of his maliciousness when it comes to the servants in the castle. He treats them as slaves and torments them constantly. A furious Celestia catches him manipulating them with his puppet strings to destroy the chaos, and drags him off to the bedroom.

867294 OH WAIT. Are you talking about fearing his parents? In that case I wrote that for nothing. XD

Umm....no, he doesn't....well he kinda fears his parents. His fear and uncomfortableness with his parents stems from the treatment of the past, and the fact that it's hard to push by the fact they used the Elements on him. But although I never wrote it, they obviously had to have something happen before forgiveness occurred.

His fear of his father is mostly because Aegeus is freakishly intimidating (Fluttershy is petrified of him XD), and is one of those "smack down fathers" that you probably don't see much now a days. As much as Discord still hates being handled like a child when he goes too far, it's his father and that's that. But that kind of fear is normal, because who wouldn't fear a switch? XD

Yet Discord still never stops trying to do things to deserve it. c|

867350 Hm... heh... Sounds too much like your other fic to me and not much of an alternate universe.:trollestia:

867382 Heh, okay, we'll call this one a "what if" the parents were still alive. That makes more sense

768061
Aww. I know how you feel. My dad is a stupid hobo who left me a long time ago. :/ Nevertheless, things in my life are working fine!
*hugs*

and Discord, stop tormenting your father!"
