Bubble Boom

Bubble Boom here. I'm a jack-of-all-trades sort of gal who writes, illustrates, edits, and crafts.

Do you need a cupcake that’s to die for and suitable for gatherings? Then look no further than this devilishly decadent dark chocolate and oat cupcake with wickedly, irresistibly sweet frosting. One bite and your party will never eat anything else again.

Was the book inspired from mianite season 2 perhaps?

See, Twilight, this is why you don't let Pinkie Pie in any library. She will find SOMETHING that threatens reality.

Fantastic concept.

Good thing pinkie substituted the ingredients right?

Soylent Cupcakes are made from ponies! :pinkiecrazy:

Specifically, Rainbow Dash... :rainbowhuh:

Liked this story. As a Raichu, I give it two paws up.
7204198 Don't be that guy. Pinkie Pie's sweet.

7204727 Yes she is very sweet... *nomnomnomnom* :pinkiecrazy:

No wings, so she was propelled by... Oh, ewwwww.

Never change, Pinkie.

So...having not read this yet can I assume another name for this is "The book of the Bread"? Bound in frosting and created by half demons from Tartarus? Does Pinkie have an eggbeater hoof and a "boomstick"? :rainbowlaugh::trollestia:

Because the Omnomnomicon ex Delicious is a dangerous thing:trollestia::trollestia:

7205203

No, she just got Tiggered.

Or, to put it another way...BOINGY BOINGY BOINGY.

I liked it up to the ending, which I consider to be a huge letdown. I was hoping the effect of the cupcakes would be something along the lines of the "baked bads" from Applebuck Season, where the harm was done by distribution. After all, she baked them so differently from what the recipe was actually calling for that by the end I was wondering if anything bad would even happen.

This was great. Just great.
I give it the appropriate rating of 9/10: Almost IGN.

I haven't even read it yet, but I gave it a like just for the name. :rainbowlaugh:

66 likes. Six hundred more, guys!

Today I had the best cupcake I have eaten in my life, seen this fic can't be a coincidence, can it?

Friggin' adorable, Bubble. Amazing work.

Ha, good TF2 ref.

Are you referencing the Bombinomicon from TF2? Ya cheeky bugga, I HAVE to read the story now! XD

7207189 I'm suspecting the real reference is way older than that.

The Bombinomicon and the Omnomnomicon both seem to reference the Necronomicon, a book of arcane knowledge said to drive people mad. I think the original version was in a story by H.P Lovecraft, who also invented the entire Cthulhu Mythos for the same stories.

Before starting to read this, I spent several moments just saying "Omnomnomicon" aloud to myself. What a fun thing to say! Like "pickle barrel!" :pinkiehappy:

Fun story, definitely worth the read.

7203092
Nope! :yay:

7203094
Poor Pinkie! To get banned from the library! :pinkiegasp:

7203485
Thank you! Much appreciated!

7203790
Indeed!

7204727
Thank you for the two paws up!

7205203
Yeeeeep. :pinkiecrazy:

7205261
Oh that's awesome. Wish I'd thought of it. Thank you!

7205504

Thank you for the feedback, Twisted Code. I can definitely see what you mean, and I toyed around with a few options for the ending originally. Ultimately I wanted the evil cupcake spell to function still, as she did cast the spell without knowing it, but not quite the way intended.

7205556
Thank you very much!

7205628
Thank you! Really love the name too.

7205830
So if it gets to 666, will the sky turn dark and rain cupcakes? :pinkiegasp:

7206099
Hmm, a coincidence? Perhaps. How do you feel?

7206606
Thank you, good sir! Very much appreciate the compliment, ultra1437.:heart:

7207245
Whoot! Yes! It's indeed a reference to the Necronomicon. :pinkiehappy:

Do you need a cupcake that’s to die for suitable for gatherings?

I'm not sure, but I think there is supposed to be a comma after the first "for".

Confused me when I first read it.

7207520 Knew it!

By the way I didn't say it earlier, but this story sounds like something Pinkie Pie would do, which makes it a good story.

PS. How large are the odds of finding the Baked Bads recipe in there?

7208386

It's grammatically correct but perhaps not the best sentence construction. It threw me off a bit too. I could do a "that's" or an "and" to fix it. Opted for an "and." Thank you for pointing out an awkward sentence.

This reminds me of... a story I read where Pinkie bakes a monster cake. I can't find it, but I was sure it was called "Twilight Sparkle does nothing all day" or something.

...maybe it was deleted?

Sprinkles save lives, people!

At first, I was mad at this story for knocking me off the Featured List. Then, I read it and liked it too much to be bitter.

Huh. Now you've got me legitimately curious whether or not dandelions would work in a cupcake recipe. I mean, they're pretty bitter and slightly astringent, but so is unsweetened cocoa. The biggest problem would be all the added moisture. But if you dried them out beforehand... Dang it, I might just have to experiment!

I'll be sure not use any picked under a blood moon, though. Thanks for the warning. :raritywink:

7213475
I don't know about cupcakes, but dried and ground dandelion has been used in a variety of foods and drinks for a long time. Just be careful where you harvest them, to avoid harsh chemicals getting into the mix.

7215588 Yeah, no worries there. I've got tons growing in my back yard and harvest the greens all the time.

I've only ever used them to spice up tossed salad (so good!) but it should be interesting to see if the flavour works in a sweet recipe or if it's turns out to be a culinary abomination. :pinkiehappy:

7210922

Awwee, didn't mean to bump you! And I really do appreciate you liking it!

7221993

I'm fine with you bumping me. I was just kidding with you there.

Here is a reading of your story that I made. I don't think I fully realized how much of a task it would be to do this, but I did! :twilightsheepish:

It was a good learning experience in making fanfic readings, that's for sure.

Wow, that turned out really good!

I do voice work professionally, and I got to say, you have talent. Your voice is pleasant, the pacing is good, the editing is solid.

If you're looking for advice on improving, I would suggest doing your audio someplace that has less of an echo. It's very low-key in this, so it's not a true detriment, but it is noticeable. If you have one available, I's suggest doing your voice overs in a closet. The clothing and other soft materials in most closets will cut that echo right out.

The only other piece of advice I'd give you at this point would be trying to vary your cadence a tad. You hit the pacing well, but it does sound like you're reading a script in some places, as opposed to storytelling. Overall though, thoroughly awesome job!

7229350

That's for your advice. I'll certainly try to improve audio in the future.

And yeah, I'm actually pretty terrible at talking without stumbling over my words. You didn't get to hear all of the screw ups in the audio that I edited out (some sentences took me around 6 attempts to finally say without mucking them up!)

Part of the reason I'm actually going into doing these things is because I hate not being able to articulate myself very well. I think I could be a much more effective speaker, so I'm doing this to get better at that sort of thing. Thanks for your kind words, and I'll be sure to take them to heart whenever I do my next project.

7229556
Good on you.

Don't worry about the flubbing too much. I do it all the time and I've been at this for years now. That's the magic of editing!
But that's a very good idea, using it to teach yourself. It's fantastic practice, and you're moving in the right direction.

Speaking of flubbing, I think I have a a mix of my flubs..."flubstep" if you will. Let me dig up a link.
Here.
Just to show that even us professionals screw it up now and then.

7229615 Lol that's a great remix

Cute, although the pacing isn't the greatest. There's all this build-up (and cook-up) and then not a whole lot of payoff, honestly. That could have done with some rebalancing.

Maybe next time she can read the Necrotelecomnicon.

Aaaand then I need the tears of a unicorn.

At first I thought: That'll be tough. Unicorns are crazy rare.

Then I thought: Oh, right. MLP. :derpyderp1:

Very interesting. I loved the way how you made Pinkie seem oblivious to the danger of the ingredients for the recipe.

7207509 "Not quite" is an understatement, IMHO. That spell was completely different by the end.. Sure there was the cauldron, circling, and unicorn tears, but on the other hoof, she used a different milk and (knowing it or not), normal flowers, and she added a completely uncalled for ingredient.
7203094 Yeah, either that or actually put the effort in to watch her?

somewhat obsessive princess

Understatement of the century.

This was great though, Pinkie Pie at her Pinkiest! :rainbowlaugh: :pinkiehappy:

Unicorn tears are an important cooking ingredient. Cupcakes, Doritos, gold, you name it!

7284493
Although it seems someone disagreed with my comment, after another reread of the story, I stand by my criticism. I feel like the spell was too different to still be potentially lethal in the way it was expected, even before she added sprinkles. That said, I do like the idea of pinkie bouncing all over ponyville like some sort of pony-sized Super Ball. It's funny, just not what I would've expected it to do given how drastically it was changed.
