Inspired to write when there's no time. Inspired to rest when there's time to write.

There is a prophecy of an undead that will rise to rekindle the flames and extend the age of Hope and Harmony.

No one knows when this undead will come, but some think it is soon. And when this pony does come, he or she will have a journey like none other. A journey of pain, suffering, and perhaps even death.

Chapters (10)
Comments ( 59 )

7425409 Not exactly. It will be a combination of all three games' styles.

Hmm, I wonder who this pony was? That could be an interesting reveal in the end who it was the entire time.

7425419 that'd be too long, ha. No, more like it will combine them into a story that ultilizes all their lores. This is a unique crossover, so it actually has nothing direct from Souls world. More like it takes the Souls world and implements it into Equestria

7425430

By the ages I mean, the age of fire, the age of darkness, the age of deep waters.

7425427 Nope. That probably won't happen. But I will tell ya that there will be plenty of familar faces.

7425436 Yes and no.

That's all I'll say :derpytongue2:

7425441

Alright. :ajsmug:

Will Aldrich play an important role?

7425443 No characters from the dark souls games will be present in this.

"I'll try not to end up like them,"she whispered.

Given the little knowledge I have on the games, that might be easier said than done but at least it's good to know I don't need to know the game intimately to understand the story.

7426869 No, ya don't need to know the game to read this. Everything will try to be explained and it only takes concepts from the games, not really the lore.

7426890 *Blinks eyes in confusion*:derpyderp2:
Err...No, toy?

Oh, it's 'you'. My brain functions slower when it's late at night.:derpytongue2:

7426909 I don't have my phone with me and typing on phone, which I hate. So expect errors as these damn buttons are too small!

7427526 Nothing set like in the games. It's kinda it's unique timeline.

So Tirek is dead now. Good to have it fully confirmed that our hero is an earth pony. Now else will she kill?

encountered my like before

encountered me before...or were you going for something else?

She left some of her life

felt

The hollows that Tirek mentioned, was he referring to the fading souls the main character passed on her way to him?

Also, I'm curious on how the protagonist holds her sword in battle since holding it with her mouth would limit the kinds of move she could make with the blade. That and the visor of her helmet might get in the way, unless the visor only covers her eyes.

7429641 A hollow will be explained in the next chapter, but since you haven't played the game, I'll tell you now. A hollow is an undead that has lost the will to live basically. It's a state of being a lifeless husk.

Also, the first one is not a mistake. It's more of an archaic expression.

I wonder how dying repeatedly to the same foe will fit into the plot.

In seriousness, I really enjoyed this and I can't wait to see how you express combat and lore in an organic manner. Very exciting, can't wait for more.

7430520 I will limit that greatly for story sake. I know Dark Souls is about dying a bunch, but that works for video games, not literature. So expect very few deaths.

Thanks mate! I already got the next chapter written, just have to proofread it later.

And so....let the fires burn and the jouney begin, no name, no purpose, but a simple urge to find out. For one thing I know about the Dark soul is you must be prepared to die...

Good see ol'Sunset Shimmer. Her keeping the flames makes a lot of sense, I figured it was her before she named herself.

7435963 and die and die and die and die........

7435965 Yeah, and Sunset is not creating havoc like in my other stories. Good on her!

She is perfect for the role, but she doesn't have DS3's Firekeeper benign personality. So she'll put her own spin on the character's role.

7435978

You do tend to cast her has the villain. Now what next will our heroin encounter I wonder? I guess I will find out in future chapters.

7435993 I'll give you a hint: it's big

7435978 haha hope she finds an estus flask or healing items like in DS 1.

Wait when did Octavia appear in this chapter? She is now tagged in the story! Is it a hint or a simple mistake as our author uses her a lot.

Huh, so Sunset returned to Equestria though I'm guessing she is an undead as well? And a rather nonchalant poet at that. With her character tag, I suppose the 'Chosen Undead' will be seeing more of her later on in the story.

7437190 There are few side characters in the story, so yes, each character will have his/her time in the story.

Sunset and being undead/not undead? Hm........maybe?

And Sunset is a Firekeeper. Firekeepers in the games often have vital roles to play. Although they come in several different forms, she is based off of the Firekeeper in Dark Souls 3. (I would love some art of Sunset in the Firekeeper outfit)

So an undead becomes 'hollow' by dying repeatedly huh...guess all those hollows the warrior saw before Tirek fell to him one time too many.

And judging from the final comment, I suppose Vinyl might have tried to do the good thing and with Octavia dressed in armor, she must have joined Vinyl and saw her die tragically, over and over until she became an empty hollow. The only thing that would have made it worse if Octavia had to put Vinyl out of her misery for good...unless she just comes back even worse?

7442277 That was happened in the Souls games. Onion bro :fluttercry:

I'll just say it's gonna get worse....

Poor Octavia! I hope she can help rekindle Hope with our unnamed mare.

That abomination on the bridge, while grotesque and horrific, sounds like a pretty cool monster. Nasty, but cool.

Whether or not those hollows have been there at the campfire for that long, their presence seems to tell an unspoken tale of tragedy. Were they refugees seeking safety in the remnants of Equestria but were denied entry and forced into hiding, turning hollow over time. Or were they deserters trying to leave Equestria in a desperate attempt to escape whatever turned the world into ruin but were trapped by the abomination on the bridge, with any attempt to get through failing and accelerating their 'hollowfication'.

So many tragic tales, so much mystery...almost makes me want to get the game and see if this kind of stuff happens in the game for myself. Almost.

Not good for our hero. Hopefully she can increase the embers soon.

7460571 what you just did is all what the game is about: interpretations. There are so many untold tales in the games. The abomination could also be an attempt to seal off the bridge before it became a monster. But what was it blocking? What made it a monster? That's what the game is about: questions and mysterious answers.

7460602 it's prolly a long time til then.

7460919 Well, if one of your goals was to convey that part of the game, then consider it a success.:raritystarry:

I wonder why our hero didn't take more parts of the armor? Guess it is the D&D player in my to loot everything. So I guess we know why the manticore was angry, it lost it's beloved master Fluttershy.

7485815 She liked the magic resistance of her current armor and adding a helmet greatly increases poise. The other armor has no magic resistance :trollestia:

7485835

She could have given it to somepony who needed it. Then again I do play D&D so I just would have sold it if I didn't need it.

Huh, guess Fluttershy is going to be the first of the Bearers our little warrior is going to encounter, or what remains of her at least.
7485815
Considering the corpse was skewered on a stalagmite(I think), I would assume that his or her armor was ruined save for the helmet though if the corpse had been a stallion, perhaps the rest of the armor might have been too large and unsuitable to wear.

If the OCs in this story were voiced, what would they sound like?

7522853 I mean...there is only one OC...wait no...there's two OCs thus far. :twilightsheepish:

The warrior probably sounds like Evie Frye (VA is Victoria Atkin).

The other OC probably sounds more like Martin Freeman.

And the hollows sound like college students that just woke up and went to class.

I always thought them to have more British accents because Dark Souls does have its fair share of those.

And then there's Patches...

Huh, so those hollows back at the cave were monks from the Church of Kindness, and the Manticore was meant to guard the swamps from any outside intruders.

7523143 From outside intruders or from wannabe leavers?

:trixieshiftright:

:applejackconfused: Nah, probably the first.
