Ancient and powerful magic. Though I'd say it isn't "standing" since it's in a cave, which you'll see next chapter. Also, all the adult changelings are watching over them, while the Crusaders seem to run around largely unsupervised.
As a side note, do you really like Chrysalis? I keep spotting you in the comments section of Chrysalis-related stories; I think they were Change and A Changeling Effect.

Chryssie is my favourite Mlp character, bar none. Hence why I scour fimfiction for stories starring her that don't involve her dying or being locked up forever, etc. And changelings, together with griffons, are my favourite race in mlp.
