Priceless.  I can just see Twilight in all her scholarly fervor nearly rivaling Pinkie Pie on a sedate day as she zips from display to display.  Probably a good thing that Spike declined to come along, or she'd have had saddlebags full of notes, and her poor assistant would have had claw cramp by the time she got to Spartan Shield's display.  And then we get to Spartan Shield and her innocent damage of the "statue."  That is just soooo Twilight, it can't be believed.  About the only other pony in the Mane 6 that I could see pulling off that reaction would be Rainbow Dash, and we both know that Dash wouldn't be caught dead within a mile of a museum... well, unless it was dedicated to the Wonderbolts, anyway.

I'm guessing that the restoration spell Twilight used was a relatively new spell construct, as I can't see any reason otherwise why Celestia wouldn't have applied that spell after the battle to attempt to save as many of Nightmare Moon's victims as possible.  (Or at least, I find it hard to believe that Spartan was the only stallion hit by that particular bit of magic in the midst of a full-on conflict.)  Still, as a preservative spell, it looks like it did a bangup job.  I've read a bit on Sparta myself, though it was back in college for one of my classes, so I have a reasonable idea of the sort of mindset that Spartan Shield is handling.  All I can say for now is that Twilight's going to have her hooves full shepherding her new guest into understanding Equestria as it is today.  I suppose that his linguistics are up to date as a side effect of Twilight's spell and her tendency to go overboard on juicing it up when she's not completely calm.  Otherwise, I would've expected at the least a tendency towards something similar to Luna's anachronisms in his speech.

Now, if Twilight can just remember her own studies about ancient cultures and remember just how males and females related in Spartan's culture, or at least the Grecian cultures in general of that time, she'll probably avoid a host of problems for herself.  (But then, if that were the case, this story would be a lot shorter and we'd lose a lot of chances to laugh at the situations our "Solar-powered mage" is going to be creating for herself while dealing with the sort of faux pas that a warrior fresh from the Nightmare War will be making as they go to meet Celestia.  (For instance, I really don't want to think about what's likely to happen if it's not a school day, and they happen to pass a group of colts playing at guards and changelings, since you know that there are bound to be a few lunar guard costumes in the lot.)

I don't think Celestia would approve of the very popular Spartan practice of killing slaves for fun. Is that going to be mentioned? On the other hand, Spartans treated their women far better than most ancient peoples.

If anything, any "slave labour" was all criminals being forced as part of their sentence.

I'll admit I went into this a bit wary, given that the story could have ended up a messily written comedy, but it was brilliant!. I'm glad I was wrong though, and how Spartan acts around the characters so far and reacts to certain things in the modern day is priceless Following this, definitely.

Yeah, Spartan women were considered full citizens, could own property and businesses (IIRC the Spartans considered them to be better at business and with money in general than men) and had an equal voice in politics.

too be honest i don't think spartan shield will get friendly with dash, probally girls weren't warriors and dash doesn't seem like the type that needs protection and would do it her self. he probally like rarity more because she occasionly wears clothes or fluttershy because she is more lady like.

Yep, that meeting with Celestia went about as well as I expected.  And Spartan's mental trauma about the change in mores as well as the shifts in costuming are only beginning, though I suspect that Rarity will find some of his costuming requests interesting, if a bit basic in design.  Spartan's reaction to Twilight and Celestia greeting one another says a lot about the mindset of his time; I wonder if the gender ratios were less skewed to the female side than they seem to be in modern times?  If that is the case, I suspect that he's going to also feel a lot like the entire world's been transplanted to the isle of Lesbos.

All things considered, Spartan's going to find that obeying the newest order of his leige lady is probably going to be the hardest path he will ever walk.  Asking a Spartan to live as an Athenian is practically treason, but his Princess has commanded it, so he will obey to the best of his ability.  It wouldn't surprise me that he's going to be spending a lot of time along the edge of the Everfree, both for keeping in training trim, and just to have a place to work off frustrations as they accumulate in his daily life.  Ah well, that is a future chapter, I'm sure that Aegis will do his usual bang-up job covering the bases there.

One item that I have to point out, though.  

Spartan Shield cocked his head all the way back. “Sweet Celestia’s TEATS!” he swore aloud, turning quite a few heads at the colorful language. “What is this monstrosity!?” he shouted, pointing up at the palace. “All of those towers would take but a single catapult shot to bring down! It doth be balanced like a house of cards!”

“That would be the palace, Spartan.” Twilight said, already annoyed with him. Her cheeks pinkened at his referral to Celestia’s chest, but she chose to ignore it.

Twilight's got a real reason to pink up, since Celestia's teats are located considerably south of the chest on an equine body.  Remember where foals go to nurse, it's definitely not associated with the ribs or forelegs at all.
