This is a story answering the question, what if Alex Roberts from the Memoirs of a Reality Jumper, had never jumped. This story is a completely stand alone story, you don't need to read Memoirs to know what's going on.

Hm, this is more like what if something had erased Alex from Equestria and kept him from jumping. You could actually integrate this in the main story as a short arc. A Twilight Zone kind of episode.

I don't see the picture. Aside from that it is well written. It reminds me of some other stories I read on something both creepy, yet ends in a bittersweet sorta way that gets a bit sweeter as one thinks about it. I think I saw a story concept like this in the anime, Robot Carnival.

That's the main story all of my side stories are based on. The Memoirs Of A Reality Jumper is a continuing story / soap opera / adventure / slice of life thing I have a blast writing and is fairly popular (I think). Now with thirty chapters, updated weekly-ish (less in the summer).
While this story was Alex not going to Equestria (and Dash reaching out to find him), the main story is him in Equestria.

Basically. This Rainbow Dash was being treated for a major depression by Twilight, using a spell that gives the patent happy memories. In this case, This Dash saw and felt what the Dash from the Memoirs Universe experienced. She realized she wanted her own Alex and the closest Alex she could find to the Ales she saw with this old guy. Twilight was able to create a spell for her friend that would transfer his essence (or soul, if you will) into a blank body. In this case, just in time before the old Alex died.
Please note that depression is treated like this in ponies, not humans.

Basically, yeah. The more Twilight let Dash control it, the more it messed with it's hardware. Until the only decisions the robot could make were ones that Dash would make.
