When Celestia banished Nightmare Moon and Luna to the moon over 1,000 years ago, she lost contact with the Elements of Harmony. When the mane six found them and destroyed Nightmare Moon, she was, at first, grateful. Then again with Discord.
But after being defeated by Queen Chrysalis and honored below the Holders, she is jealous. Celestia needs the Elements back, and develops a devious plan to separate them from the Holders to regain their powers.
Thankfully, Twilight and her friends are not alone. Helped from behind the scenes, their pets and friends work to free them from an impending doom.
Will they succeed and survive? Or are Equestria's heroes doomed?

The reason the changeling incident helped prompt Celestia to regain the power of the Elements is that she was defeated by Queen Chrysalis. Celestia believes now that if she still had power over the Elements, Chrysalis would not have been more powerful. I think that one of Celestia's main focuses in life is defending Equestria, and if she cannot without the power of the Elements of Harmony behind her I believe she would do anything to regain the elements and save her kingdom.

Read the other statement/reply above. This fanfiction is not so much about Celestia becoming and being a tyrant (though it does change slightly to that later). It, in truth, is a character study of the ponies, finding out what makes them tick and putting them into various strange situations to see how they would act. I thought that Celestia would be rather frustrated and scared if she could not defend the ponies she rules over, and would find that the only way to regain the powers she had before would be to harness the powers within the Elements of Harmony as her own.
