Ever since Twilight defeated Tirek, her dreams have been nothing but nightmares. Every night she sees herself loosing to him, she sees herself loosing her friends to him. She knows they can't be real, but each one is more vivid than the last.
After a particularly vivid one wakes her up, she questions whether or not she really did save her friends. She has to find them, to be sure they're okay.
She has to end the nightmares

Oh jeez, after this one, another one showed up. Please tell me this isn't the newest fad to hit.
I thought I had remembered seeing another story with this same title and idea.
It's really interesting seeing how 2 authors can really change the same story idea and their endings.
Good story, what was the fic you read which inspired it?
Wow. Just wow. When I wrote my story of Nightmares I wanted to give it a dark ending, but then I thought of how much easier I could play with people's heartstrings if I gave it an element of Twidash, and a happy ending. But what people have completely missed is the fact that Twilight Sparkle will continue to suffer from those nightmares every time she's asleep, and only find peace with her friend's. So when you think about it, it is a much darker and unhappy ending.
But I like this ending too. It's really great to see another author's take on some of my own work.
